So, can anyone tell me how good Chelsea players are compared to ours? Looking at their players, I recognize Travis Akomeah, Ishe Samuels-Smith, Jimmy Jay Morgan, Josh Acheampong from FM game. All of them are playing at Prem level and I actually have Ishe on my team.

Ofcourse, it's just a game so I'm wondering are they all actually that good in real world as well? In comparison, that game rates only Lacey, Biancheri, Fitzgerald and Amass as Prem potential players from our bunch.

Donnell McNeilly’s 21 goals and 6 assists in 19 appearances sounds decent.

Kind of similar to our Wheatley. Should be a good contest then. Actually looking at them now, Akomeah and Ishe appear to be built like tanks for that level.

Chelsea always have a physically dominant side. The good thing about this season’s United is that we have dealt with physically strong opponents much better than in previous years.

Should be a very good game. Our XI will probably be pretty similar to the one in the cup final.

I haven't seen Chelsea play - and it's hard to compare the quality of the southern and the northern league - but I have followed the results from that league and Chelsea very often win tight games, whereas we often beat our opponents with a bit more ease.

Chelsea have won 6 games by 3 goals or more (in all competitions) - and even destroyed WBA by 9-1 in one game. And have won 9 games by a single goal

United in comparison have won 12 games by 3 goals or more - and 7 games by a single goal.

United score more and have a slightly better defence.

We are probably slightly better if we play our strongest side, but they have home advantage

Spurs vs Man City will be played at the same time, so could that be the reason this is not on MUTV? Does that stupid broadcasting rule apply even to the U18s?

It doesn’t apply to the u18s, we regularly overlap with the 12:30 Saturday PL kickoff and still broadcast.

It’s hard to take anything from the MUTV schedule though as it’s consistently wrong. Just last week it said it was showing a game and then took it off the day before. The official united Twitter even said they were broadcasting the match an hour before kickoff before ultimately not showing. They don’t seem to have any real idea of their own coverage. They also said they’d show a replay the next day on the schedule and then didn’t.

I contacted them about the appalling u18/21s coverage last year and they replied with some guff about showing every pre season match for the first team. Clearly didn’t even bother to read my email. I’ve followed up another 3 times since asking for my actual questions to be answered and haven’t got a response.

Yeah I’ve noticed this too.

Wasn’t sure if they are allowed to overlap a little or is it a strict rule. For example a lot of our U18s games have kicked off at 11:00 on Saturdays.

If MUTV don’t show it let’s hope Chelsea do.

Just out of curiosity - why does the rule apply to the reserves, but not the U18 ? I mean it's completely stupid - but it makes even less sense that it doesn't apply to the u18s

Guess the U21s are considered professionals and U18s as youth players/games. Don’t know, it’s beyond stupid.

I did the same and it was basically too hard to even put academy games for 7 days to watch later etc. Being in Australia I can't watch every game live at 11pm or midnight so we get a 4 minute highlights. In this day of age, not to put the game online for 7-14 days for fans to even watch it again (shocking)

From what I've read it seems Rio Ngmuoha is an insane talent. I don't know what his current season stats are mind but some of the FT i follow rate him very highly.

Rio is still a schoolboy though. They might opt with the older players for this fixture considering the UEFA Youth League spot.

Travis Akomeah, one of Chelsea's starting CBs and often their captain, has just been sent off in the 101st minute of their game against Arsenal today. Presumably that means he's suspended for the final.

Just noticed that too. 2-5 defeat isn’t the best possible preparation to the final either. Obi-Martin with another hattrick

It was essentially an U16 game to be honest. Probably only 3 of that Chelsea squad will be involved in the final.

A lot more of them are currently playing for the 21s in their play-off game, also against Arsenal.

Let’s hope Arsenal hold on to their lead and Chelsea have a couple of players sent off.

Some names on both sides!
About 10-12 players there have ended up playing top flight / second tier football in some capacity, that's actually very impressive for both Chelsea and United.

I've been interested in our youth teams and players (U18 and U21) much more than our first team lately. Although I just watched a couple of U18 and U21 full matches, I watched a lot of highlight reels of our best prospects. What do you think that would be our best U18 XI at the moment, and what would be our best U18 XI to face Chelsea next, excluding injured players like Shea Lacey? I'll go first.

Best XI to face Chelsea: Harrison - Ogunneye, Jackson, Kingdon, Amass - McAllister, Fitzgerald - Scanlon, J Fletcher, Williams - Wheatley.

I feel like Sharpe is higher rated than Scanlon on the right, but when I watched him live, he seems quiet. I really love Biancheri's work rate and positioning, and he reminds me of Chicharito, but Wheatley obviously will start with his experience training and playing with the first team. Biancheri will have some minutes though. Ibragimov could play in Jack Fletcher's position because Fletcher seems more like an LCM than an AM to me. But Ibragimov doesn't have much experience and intensity at this level. Devaney is also promising, and I really don't know if he's better than McAllister and Fitzgerald. They are all like typical British midfielders to me. Nolan could play RB, I think, but I guess he's a bit slow, and I would start Ogunneye because Chelsea have an amazing LW in Rio Ngumoha, who is just 15 years old. Rio could beat defenders easily with his pace and skill, which I haven't seen with any of our youth players. Williams came close but doesn't have that pace in him.

Think Fitzgerald is still out with an injury, same as Ibragimov.

I'd probably go with:

Harrison

Kamason
Jackson
Kingdon
Amass

McAllister
Devaney

Mantato
J.Fletcher
Williams

Wheatley

Think it'll be Scanlon on the right though. We once again have a first team match the day after, so unfortunately we'll sub some players off early.

I hadn't paid too much attention to Mantato until reading your comment. I was confused at first because I was pretty sure he came on and played as an LB in one of our recent games. And he showed nothing special during his stint there. So, I watched a few highlights of him and was shocked because he played really well at RW. His dribbling and close control are pretty good. Maybe he played LB in that game because we didn't have any other choices? But this guy might be one of our top U18 prospects at the moment, despite only being 16 years old.

You must know a lot about our youth players, so I really want to know how you rate our prospects, in a tier list, ie tier 1 would have Amass and Wheatley?

Interestingly I think Mantato is considered one of the best LBs of his age group in the country, which makes him slotting in and excelling on the RW is equal parts hilarious and impressive.

I know your original question was to @top1whoisman but I think the two best prospects, at least in my view, are Amass and Lacey, two exceptional players for this level. Lacey in particular just has that X-factor about him, annoyingly he has missed a lot of the season through injury so who knows how he'll bounce back from that next season. Amass I think is our POTS, he's been a fantastic signing.

He’s played both positions (and even CB I think) during his journey up the age groups so he’s quite comfortable whether it’s in defense or on the wing. For England he’s mostly played as a LB. One sub appearance is way too small a sample size to judge anyone anyway.

He’s such a good dribbler and a threat near the box that at the moment I think RW is his best position, but who knows what the future brings.

Rating youth prospects in order or against each other is a pretty simplistic way to look at it, in my opinion. So many factors to take into consideration.

The current U18s squad does look a bit special. There’s probably half a dozen players who could make it here, realistically max. one or two will. But to have around 10 players in one team that will, if they stay heathy, most likely have decent professional careers is the big thing for me. Very good recruitment and coaching.

If you compare McKenna’s U18s and the FA Youth Cup winning side, the former was full of talent but for different reasons failed to produce a United regular. But a big chunk of them play in some of the biggest leagues in Europe. The FAYC winners squad wasn’t that deep in my opinion, but gave us Garnacho and Mainoo, who will hopefully have long & successful careers at the club. Point being, you never know.

Wheatley and Amass both in the squad. Perhaps if Licha and Rashford are fit for tomorrow they’ll play more than a half tonight.

Please excuse my ignorance but can anyone explain this competition? I know the U-18s won the league, and were knocked out the FA Youth Cup quite early, so what competition is this?

Thank you.

United won under 18s north
Chelsea won under 18s south
This is to determine the overall winner
