Thiago Motta. Career midfielder, played for the biggest clubs in three different leagues, worked under the best managers, and is young enough to be able to relate to the new generation of players while also commanding their respect. His work at Bologna is remarkable.

Failing that, Thomas Tuchel. Experienced coach, with Dortmund, PSG, Chelsea, and Bayern. Champions League winner, tactically brilliant, knows the Premier League.

But the way it's going - dithering - United will end up with Southgate, or stick with the current disaster of a manager. Or Potter.

Amazing how things change, De Zerbi would have been the Caf's choice earlier this year but he's dropped off a cliff and people now favour McKenna over him!

Stick with EtH for me, although i suspect his votes would have been lower had we lost last night, im not suggesting for a minute that the Caf regulars change opinion like the wind, honest :lol:

It won't be this squad though will it....and with a proper footballing structure in-place, it won't solely be on the manager to create the right culture and ensure that standards are met.

Let's face it, we're not getting close to winning a title for three seasons at least. We need a manager who is willing and able to coach young players and improve some of the players that we have. I think McKenna is exactly the right profile to come in and get the best out of the likes of Hojlund, Mainoo, Garnacho, Amad etc...

My slight concern if we don't move now is that his stock will fall when Ipswich are inevitably relegated. We'll have all this "relegated Ipswich, PE teacher" nonsense narrative again.

Better to appoint him now whilst he's riding this crest of the wave, so that the fans and players don't have that stick to beat him with.

Very interesting candidate but I'd class him as unrealistic too as if he leaves surely it will be to Juventus, no?

That's kind of true. There was a time to act, maybe there is still is, but the club seems uninterested in doing so. But he'd have been my preferred candidate. Tuchel seems to be slipping away as well. But the alternatives are just too dire to think about. From that list, these two are the only ones that are somewhat realistic and are of interest to me. The rest are not happening, like Zidane or Alonso, or just meh.

If that's the list then I'd stick with ETH.

I'd personally look at an option like Gallardo, think the South American contigent and young players in the squad would respond to his passion and presence. Plus he has an excellent record in Argentina and South American continental competitions. He's also unemployed having just left his Saudi club although he's been heavily linked with AC Milan since.

Truth is we don't know, the expectation on here of what Ineos can do seems super high to me. We have a lot of problem players leaving (which is very good) but this is a mentally fragile squad in my opinion with very few leaders and they need a disciplinarian to keep the younger guys honest/progressing. Coaching young players though, in fairness, is probably what ETH's done the best to be honest - it's only Amad people are confused by which is still think is fine given he had such a bad injury.

Re the narrative, that would happen as soon as we lost a couple of games. 'Is he really the calibre United want?', 'they've hired a failed coach with no top flight experience' etc.

Not really. It just shows that the fans want different managers.

I voted Amorim. But most want Tuchel, Alonso or McKenna.

It's not a poll where it's ten Hag vs one option. Over 75% want a different manager. So far.

I did want Zidane a few years back but he has never shown interest in managing in the Premier League. I'm not sure he's a viable choice.

I voted him. Just think if we get yet another new manager we are going to be in the same mess we are in right now anyway, and I don't actually mind him.

In as much as this season has been a complete and total fecking shambles, there has been the odd glimpse of something in that team. We need to sort out our -entire defense- again now but there's the germ of something in that young triumvirate of Mainoo, Garnacho and Hojlund. With Shaw and Malacia basically having been out for the season it would be nice to finally have a left back again.

Ten Hag seems like a good bloke too and if he speaks to the players the way he spoke to the fans yesterday he's clearly a motivator. That plus the refereeing for the entire season has cost us probably something like 10-20 points overall means it might not be as disastrous next year.

No, Zidane is the dream option but is never going to happen, then we have a pool of realistic options like McKenna, maybe Tuchel if he leaves, Southgate, Potter or De Zerbi, and I think McKenna is the best fit. Alonso is never going to happen, Motta is off to Juventus and there's a ridiculous compensation fee to be paid for Amorim.

Why do you think he's the best fit ? He's never managed in a top flight before. Is that the profile of someone who should be a leading contender to manage Man United ?

I think expectations for the INEOS era reflect the fact that they have done more in 12 weeks than the Glazers managed in two decades RE : modernising the backroom structure and bringing in proven operators to make football decisions.

I suspect that we will see major changes this Summer, in terms of players leaving. We likely won't have European football next season to contend with (so smaller squad) and Ratcliffe strikes me as the sort of bloke who won't tolerate handing out millions of his own hard-earned pounds to underperforming wasters.
