Do the math man. Barca's is the only accepted bid. So unless it is matched Man Utd don't sell get it? Wether Becks want to got to Madrid or not. If He rejects Barca or new contract he faces the Bench unless REAL pay equal to or more than BARCA. Is it so had to understand???? <img src="graemlins/smirk.gif" border="0" alt="[Smirk]" />

I don't agree. How do United benefit by having Beckham on the bench for a year?

I quite agree. Unfortunately though it'll drag on all summer.

He won't literally sit on the bench. He would just have to compete diretly with Keane and Veron + Scholes+ Giggs for central midfield slots since I believe Fergie's midfield will comprise of only 3 next season.(re: The Newcastle game)And as much as I love Beckham he can't beat any two of the three to a central midfield slot. (Unless you and maybe Fegire thinks other wise).

Thus:
1. United benfit in that they will have World class cover on the bench in the event of an injury meltdown.
2. 1 more season of leaving on his mecrchendise
3. after that it will be all down hill trouble from then on.

Under your scenario Beckham will walk away on a free or be sold for little with a year to go on his contract. Given that United appear to want shot of Beckham I fail to see the benefit.

To be honest this deal could well determine how Beckham will be remembered as a footballer.

Real is the glamour move - but so wrong in terms of football. He'd struggle to find a spot there and I don't think it will benefit them in he plays in midfield - just weaken the cover for an already weak defence. He'll just be another big superstar in a team of stars - just one that sells more shirt.

At Barcelona however he can become an actual footballing legend (and sell plenty of shirts!) by helping a falling giant return to the top.

We know it's leaning towards Real now. Somehow I can't help but thinking the Beckham of a few years back would have taken the romantic Barcelona idea. But it's a company now and the David Beckham PLC cannot spend a year out of the Champions League.

Or in the reserves of Man United ofcource.

i think amir just hit the nail on the head. if becks wanted to be more than just a marketing whore he would take the risk and go to barca where if he succeeded in helping them return to the top he would enhance his reputation far more than he could ever do at real
