2019/20 Rivals - Chelsea

He played him in few of the biggest games but he wasn't regular player under Jose. Even in the season he was sacked, he gave 251 mins in half a season, Ole played him in 973 mins.

Jose promoted McTominay but looks like Ole trusts him more than Jose did going by how many mins and how bigger role they are playing.

That's because Scott is progressing. It's like berating Ole for not giving the other youth players more minutes so far.

Nobody will take McT away from him, even some could say it was a project of his to show how he aint what he really is, guy invented a fecking reward for him. Comments were made before a game too. I wont go more in debate with you about JM, i have read enough of your drivel during his time here.
You can also look at Varane an his porto squad that was filled with youngsters. Even pep who people claim to be great a bringing through youngsters only ever did so a Barcelona and that was a golden generation he aslo coached most of them in the b team. At Bayern Kimmich is the only one that springs to mind and at City he has yet to bring through a youngster.

It happened in the same season. I'm not comparing McTominay from 2 years back vs McTominay today. I'm comparing McTominay in 2018-19 under Jose vs McTominay in 2018-19 under Ole.

Ok? It doesn't change that Jose gave him chances and played him in big games when he didn't need to. When the fan base didn't believe in Scott, Mourinho did.

Yeah, never denied that Jose trusted him and promoted him. The point I made was Ole trusts him more going by the mins played and the role he is given.

Ole gave him more time later in the season. Half a season is a massive difference for a player his age. Ole couldnt have given him the amount of minutes you've posted without Jose's original trust in him. I'm not a huge fan of Jose's time here, but let's not rewrite history to paint everything he touched with a failed brush!

McTominay played more regularly in 2017-18 season than 2018-19 if I'm not wrong. I don't think what I said is controversial either, I gave credit to Jose for playing McTominay in big games and promoting him but he was more key player under Ole going by the starts. Ole trusts him over Matic, that's a big vote of confidence from manager.

I also gave credit to Jose for playing young players which he gets lot of shit for, when his problem is promoting academy players.

Anyways like you said, half a season might have made big difference.

Jose doesn't see the benefit in using young players and would rather buy experienced quality. Simple as that. He's risk averse and relies upon defensive tactics to avoid defeat first and foremost.

Chelsea have stumbled upon something because they have to use their ex academy players. Fortunately for Chelsea this group of young players are probably the best of their era. Chelsea didn't decide to do this and they probably wouldn't have appointed Lampard and Morris were it not for the transfer ban and Sarri jacking. Having said this I wouldn't change anything so far. (Maybe the 4-0 at OT)

They seem to be turning their bad start around and the young players are gaining confidence. Frank and Jody seem to be able to switch tactics and make it work. As a Chelsea fan I honestly feel the club is entering a new era. I'm sure there will be set backs but the trust in younger players and a new management team is so refreshing. To have so many good young players breaking through at the same time is very unusual. Abraham, Mount, Tomori, Callum Hudson Odoi, Loftus Cheek, Christensen and, the one who doesn't get a mention at the moment because he's out on loan, Ethan Ampadu. 7 quality youngsters, and I haven't included James because I don't know how good he is but by all accounts he's also good. I can't believe for one moment that all of them will become nailed on starters every game but as a group they create a new feel. A new generation of stars that the fans see as their own. Didn't something like this happen at another club in the 90's?

I started the season thinking we had a free shot and if we didn't get relegated I'd be happy. OK that may be a bit of an exaggeration but I was more interested in seeing how Lampard would integrate a couple of young players into the team than where we finished in the league. What is actually happening is that a new team is forming around the young players. The model has completely changed and so has the football. We are shipping way too many goals but we are also scoring so the pain isn't too bad. I think it's easier to fix a leaky defence than trying to find a way of scoring a goal. Maybe 3 at the back is the way to go and the reintroduction of Rudiger and Kante can only help but up front we are exciting.

Can't wait for the next game.

I don't really agree that we had no choice but to rely on them.

Even with the ban and Hazard gone we had enough experienced players to "get by" for a season if we really wanted to. Players couldn't be signed but we have let some experienced players go to make room for these academy boys and that's something we really didn't have to do.

I disagree with that tbh. Hazard was our main source of goals last season. Without our trio of youth this season who was going to score for us? Willian? Pedro? Giroud? Barkley? With our defensive woes so far this season I'd see us struggling a lot more with the senior players only

That's easy to say now but I don't think many would have banked on Mason and Tammy ending the season with much more than 10 goals between them for their first season up from the Champo never mind being on that tally (both combined) already.

When I say get by I mean a standard 6th place finish at worst, a manager could have gone defensive and played for tumescent wins and had some degree of success, could argue that's what Sarri did at times just was cautious with the ball instead of a Jose who's cautious without it.

I do think there's many managers that would have played "safe" in the same situation, out of all the youngsters only Mount and Odoi had to be in the squad due to lack of numbers in their positions with Loftus injured and Hazard going respectively, there was more than enough cover to loan out Tammy, James, Gilmour and Tomori if we wanted to but instead we got rid of said cover (or in Tammy's case put the other two behind him) and used them instead.

I'm not judging based on our current form, I'm judging it on last seasons form. Our attack was slow and ponderous and our defence was leaking goals for fun. Tbf I didn't hold out much hope for this season, even with the youth getting games. But I'm loving it now, even if we don't make the top 6. Sort out that defence and we could have an excellent season ahead.

Should be a good game against them on Sunday. I know they've looked good going forward but I can't help but think 11 goals conceded in their opening 5 games gives us a good chance to win.

Think you're comfortable favorites if Kante isn't fit - he was unbelievable in the supercup and we'll sorely miss his presence in midfield. Would expect 3-4-3 again as it helps mask some of our deficiencies defensively without him, but this gives me pause as Firmino tends to cause huge problems against 3ATB systems with his ability to drop between the lines and create space for others. I'd happily take a draw if offered now.

It does seem like a risk to leave those kind of gaps against us. Is Kante definitely out?

A 353 again tonight. Looking better at the back.

Hopefully Frank is given time, so far I like what I'm seeing, just need 1-2 transfer windows to sort somethings out.

I still can't quite work out if the 343 is for the benefit of Alonso (while Emerson is injured) or if this is a genuine system Lampard wants his team to be comfortable with.

Rotating between 3 different formations is quite impressive if he can get the team to slip in and out of each formation with ease.

It makes us difficult to prepare for.

Three at the back, more solid but less threatening. Valencia sat in and did a number on them.
Did a number on Mounts ankle more like. I think Pulisic should have came on instead of Pedro when he came off. HOwever the upside of that is Pulisic will be fresh for the game with Liverpool and he caused them a lot of problems in the Super Cup.

Love how young that squad is. Next season Azpi could potentially be the only 30+ player in the team. And with Ampedu and Rees-James only 19 too.

Have to make sure we don't go too far the other way, at some point there will be pressure to deliver and we don't want the squad to be too young once we get to that point.

A couple of seasons settling in would be fine with me. We've got a good number of players around that 25 mark too, so they should have a good level of experience by that time. It's certainly an exciting time. :D

Unlucky today, don't usually see teams cause Liverpool that many problems. Results are not quite there yet but they look like a side who are in that developing stage and you get what's going on and how they're trying to play. The players seem to be putting in 100% as well. We have the same points as them but there's a gulf in where the two teams are at the moment minus results.

They have a far better squad than us with options in midfield and attack. The likes of Barkley, Pedro, Pulisic and Batshuayi on the bench today would be starting for us.

I think it was slightly more Liverpool being dull than Chelsea causing them too many problems. Tons of work for Lampard to do to get this team well drilled.

Already starting to see patterns of play there under Lampard and a desire to actually try and build attacks using different avenues and not just lumping it to a striker, we look identical to the day Mou left

considering Liverpool have 15 wins in a row with 42 goals scored, maybe Chelsea deserve a bit of credit for that no? I mean it wasnt like Chelsea were at home to a dull Crystal Palace side and somehow managed to play even more dull. Yeah lots of work to do but there's something to build on. I can't imagine many Chelsea fans are watching the team at the moment and wanting to grate their eyes out.

Concede far too many goals and are open. 13 goals against is 3rd worst in the league behind Norwich and Watford.

New manager, bunch of youth players, have been missing our best defender for all bar 45 mins of premier league football and Kante has just come back.
As a Chelsea fan, I am more stress free this season than any before. There is no expectation for us to win big games and we have been playing some great football at times. Also I think currently we are better than United.

They will go the Liverpool way in terms of showing great attacking signs and then signing a couple of defenders to strengthen their backline. They are on a good way considering the circumstances

We create chances like crazy, get our best finishers into great positions repeatedly, but can not defend set plays to save our lives.

Going to be like this until Rüdiger and Kante get an extended run in the side.

Very encouraging style of play already taking shape under Frank. The likes of CHO, RLC, and Reece James still to return. Pulisic will hopefully get some starts again soon to develop.

Lots to like, lots to improve. But I feel great about our direction.
