If Martial fails to deliver as our main striker and Greenwood also fails to offer anything from the bench then I'd say we sign Haaland come January. If the opposite is the case then we should go after a proper DM.

The type of DM also depends on how Ole wants to play Pogba. If Ole sees Pogba as a deep lying playmaker then we should get a ball winning DM. Rice could be available(only saying this based on the fact that we're after young English players). However if Ole plays Pogba as a free roaming 10 then which should get a deep lying playmaker as DM. Marc Roca could be available

As for next summer I think our main targets will be Maddison and Sancho

Time for us to show a bit more nous in the market I think, it's not only about finding top quality it's also about building out our squad in general I feel.

Eriksen is coming to the end of a contract, seems a no brainer to try and get him in.
Maybe someone like Ryan Fraser as a squad player (plus he actually plays RW and his stats are strong for Bournemouth) on a free. Miles better than Lingard or Pereira.

Then we should aggressively go after a DM, likely a CM (should we not lure Eriksen here) and go for someone like Werner up top. Sancho would be great but I don't see it until we're out this slump
Eriksen????

Yes McTominay is nowhere near as good as Rice and if you ever watch him play you will quickly realize this. McT is extremely limited and would be nowhere near the England team, he is not even better than Dier.
I have a feeling I will be quoting this in the future.

De Gea
Bissaka Tuanzebe Maguire Shaw
Ndidi Pogba
Sancho Maddison James
Martial

Bench...
Romero
Lindelof
Dalot
Fred
McTominay
Pereria
Lingard
Chong
Gomes
Rashford
Greenwood
Mandukic - this years winter window

Getting both Ndidi and Maddison from Leicester may not be possible in the summer so I’ll take Maddison and then look for another CDM, Rice maybe.

Get these three in the summer and I’d see plenty of progression in our transfers.

We need to find some gems who are priced reasonably IMO and broaden our horizons if we're to follow a upward trajectory and catch up with the likes of City and Liverpool. I'm all for signing Sancho for big money but the rest of our business needs to be conducted in a sensible manner and not with a Football manager mindset.

We need to forget about sancho.. never gonna happen.. id say zaha instead. Handed in a transfer request last summer so he is looking for a move, and Ole has worked with him before:

1 Zaha
2 Dembele (lyon)
3 Doucoure (watford)

Haaland is very young and would need a lot of time, might as well just stick with Greenwood. Piatek would be good right now and Milan are in an even bigger hole than us. I think he'd come and wouldn't cost too much.

Is it only me who rates McTominay higher than Ndidi? If anything we need a CM who can pass.

Partey would be an immense signing for our midfield.

The list of players who would improve us is massive, it’s the realistic bit that’s tricky!

In our case not even 3x Messi and 3x Ronaldo would help, it would be a boost for 3 months and then just downhill.

Under a tree.
We are not going to get Sancho without being a CL team, so may as well stop making out he is realistic.

Should have got Haller and Zaha in the summer.... but in January should go for:
Zaha
McGinn
Experienced striker - Mandzukic, Bale (on loan), Dzeko

Halaand should be saved for the summer.

Van de Beek, Olmo, and a striker like Goal King Cole would be perfect right now.

Carlos Vela just finished the MLS regular season with 34 goals and 15 assists in 31 matches. Very left footed player that usually plays on the right, but can play anywhere up front.

Mandzukic on a 18 months contract and Dani Olmo would be a good start in january.
Add A right winger and a cdm in the summer, then we might be getting closer.

Strikes me as the kinda player who loves to be top dog in a smaller league and get found out in the PL real quick. But then what do I know. We have amazing scouts. *coughs*

Given our current position and the stew of shite that we are in, what is now a "realistic" transfer target..?
Is someone like Maddison now going to feel that he is better off at Leicester?
How on Earth could we appeal to Sancho?

I don’t think Sancho ever was a realistic signing and Maddison will probably have better offers or stay put. The buying British plan is already falling apart.

Given what our net spend likely to be can we even afford to spend huge sums on individual players and leave gaping holes elsewhere in the team.

I'm probably playing FM/Fifa carer mode

Departure in 2020 summer

Pogba £150m if he wants to leave
Andreas £15m
Lingard £20m
Rojo £15m
Dean Henderson £35m
Smalling £20m
Sanchez free
Young free
Matic free if not 1-year option activated

Player sales = £255m

There are a couple of players I'd like to sign and give details on each player

Marc Roca - 21 years old (DCM) £36m (€40m) release cause

Roca is 21 years old and typical Spanish deep-lying playmaker with his straight-backed body shape, constantly demanding possession with a sense for threading balls through tight lines of pressure, he constantly looks to create a passing option for the defence to build or drags a marker to free space for teammates to take-up. Roca’s technical and ball-playing abilities stand out as he can influence play with his passing through the lines to instigate attacking movements. His ability to play diagonals and switch balls in tight areas allow Manchester United to evade opposition pressure and work quick attacking moves to progress play. He has an amazing awareness of where he is on the pitch at all times as if he is positioned higher, he wins possession claim so he could play a pass, all in one move under pressure, unlike Matic & Fred who panic and lost a ball as usual. If Roca receives possession from centre-backs, with a marker charging towards him, he will calmly side-foot the ball to a teammate on the opposite flank to beat pressure. The speed at which he scans the field assesses his opportunity for a pass in between the lines and releases the ball is phenomenal and scary, very vital to build from the back to start the attack from his passing between the lines.

The stability he can bring to Manchester United allows us to play with many different formations like 3-4-3, 4-3-3, 4-1-4-1 or 4-2-3-1 as he sits at the base of midfield as his prefered position but could play in the middle of 3 back with fullback pushing higher to make it 3-4-3 and can also deploy as attacking if necessary. He’s busy defensively and very diligent, involving himself in tackles and interceptions. Roca is not averse to putting in a shift to help the defence either and He prefers to stay on his feet and usher an opponent into the wide areas or make a well-timed challenge on his feet, he can read the game very well and shield his 4 back and give defence stability under high pressure when playing out from the back. Very comfortable on both foot means he’s press-resistant to evade opposition pressure and start the attack with his quick attacking move to progress ball higher.

Fabian Ruiz
- 23 years old (CM) £80m - £90m

Ruiz is a creative proper box to box Spanish midfielder who likes to keep it so simple and possess high footballing intelligence and compliments Roca well because of his passing abilities. He has a great technical ability and is able to play accurate passes even under pressure and not only keeps it so simple but his ability to play through ball in for forwards are a real threat which will enable us to create chances, he'll increase AWB's offensively because of his through ball which can create a space for AWB to cross, low cross or cutback pass. Like Roca, he also has an amazing awareness of where he is on the pitch at all times as if he is positioned higher and keep it so simple with his ball so they don't lose ball often, even under high pressure. He's what we would call it an ideal combo for a modern-day midfielder, a well all-round midfielder who can defend and attack through the games and has greater stamina. He's also comfortable in a variety of roles, press-resistant and progressive with the ball to progress the play and broke line with his passing. Roca and Ruiz compliment each other so well because of passing abilities and technical ability on the ball that allow them to control the midfield and always make themselves available for a pass, unlike Mctominay.

All of Ruiz's abilities and stability he can bring to Manchester United would allow us to control midfield better under high pressure and evade opposition pressure to progress the play higher with Roca so that means oppositions may not like to press us in midfield if we can play through their pressing, they'll be pushed back harder. He can counter-press intelligently, will help create chances regularly. He has good high work-rate movement off the ball where he can move intelligently which will open space to exploit. He has a lot of similar trait to Herrera as he's a very aggressive midfielder who likes to work off-ball movement and like to close the player down and poke the ball away from them. He has the ability to turn a defensive situation into a counter-attacking one and he often darts forward to support attacks.

Kai Havertz - 20 years old (CAM/CM) - £90m - £100m

Havertz is an attacking midfielder - winger hybrid who likes to operate in between the line and can deploy as CM on the right flank but when playing as CM, he plays like he's CM and keeps it so simple but he's alway further of midfield with midfielders behind him. Many people compared him to Ballack & Ozil and considered him as a hybrid of Ozil and Ballack.

Havertz has everything required to be a unique midfielder in the modern game. Comfortable in an attacking third final who like operate in between the lines could give Ruiz and Roca an opportunity to broke the line with their passing. Havertz offers many types of different passing no matter if teammates need through balls, long balls to switch sides or quick one-touch passes in tight spaces, he can do that. Like Ruiz, the ability to play through balls is one of Havertz's major strengths offensively. His decision making is simply impressive, after receiving the ball between lines, a quick turn is all he needs to attack the open space with a pass, he's very intelligently who can observes the structure of the opponent and exactly knows where he can find some space. With Fabian Ruiz and Roca penetrating midfield and control the midfield could allow Harvetz to make a powerful run whenever he has space to run which will be a real threat as he shows great awareness of holes in the defence where he could exploit and alway pose threat when making powerful run.

Jadon Sancho 19 years old (RW) - £110m - £130m with potential add on

Sancho is a flair player who can play comfortably on both flanks as a winger or inside forward, particularly on left. He’s extremely quick, technically excellent and moves constantly, capable of dribbling his way past defenders or nipping past them with pace and a smart one-two. His close-footed dribbling is extremely impressive in tight spaces, akin to Neymar or Messi, and he is very intelligent when passing the ball in the final third, most of his assists are very identical where he make cutback and square pass, that would mean he can lead attacking upfront in 4-3-3 as playmaker and increase Rashford and Martial's goalscoring opportunities, Sancho is a not the type of player that will sacrifice the team’s goals for his own. If Sancho finds it difficult to beat fullback, Havertz and Ruiz can help him to beat fullback with through ball before making cutback and square pass. Take his pace and acceleration away and he can still dictate terms from the half-space and create a lot of goalscoring opportunities.

Dani Olmo 21 years old (RW/LW/CAM) - £36m (€40m)

Olmo is a versatile midfielder who could thrive in a number of positions but perhaps his best one currently is as a #8, He's what we call it an attacking version of Herrera as he's very aggressive, non-stop pressing like Bernardo Silva to try close opposition from having balls at their feet, Olmo isn’t shy when it comes to doing the dirty work, he's very right foot of Bernardo Silva and he does everything. He does it all well. His close touch and footed dribbling are extremely ridiculously as if the ball were glued to his feet. He could be a perfect rotation for Sancho and Havertz or even Ruiz. Offer us more quality option off the bench, whether we want to get goal or trying to close up if we're leading by 1 goal, he can offer that.

Moussa Dembélé 23 years old - (ST) - £36m (€40m) - £45m (€50m)

Moussa Dembele is a striker who like to run the channel and brings others into play. He’s not as static as Lukaku is but he's more mobile, but that might not be as much of an issue if our all player interchanging but his holdup play is really good. Dembele has quick feet, excellent technique, and an eye for goal and excellent movement off-ball when running behind which he is superior to Martial in that aspect and he has been as big a threat in the air could be real valuable asset if we cross more, set pecies and corner, he could have netting more goal from this. Since we are trying to play in more fluid attacking, which is why Dembele’s athleticism and ability to float on the wings could allow us to play three up front interchanging and float on wings. He compliments Rashford & Martial and Sancho on both flank so well where he can bring Rashford & Martial into play with his holdup play and lay it off for them to score and he also has the natural instincts of a goalscorer where he can sense dangers when Sancho create a goal opportunities from the right flank. Making it more difficult for defenders to concentrate on all of them with his physical pressure on them and could take their focus away from Havertz who can make shadow run to the penalty box. As I mentioned Dembele like to run the channel, one of Havertz's strong strengthen is through balls which could be real value for Dembele to thrive on this through ball opportunities. Dembele could be a perfect striker to rotate with martial for No.9.

Spending = £388m - £418m total

£388m-418m - 255m player sales = £133m - £183m net spending

De Gea
AWB Lindelof Maguire Shaw
Havertz Rica Ruiz
Sancho Martial Rashford

Bench: Dembele, James, Olmo, Mctominay, Axel, Dalot, Romero.

How much would Dele Alli cost right now? especially if he has a season like last one?
I don't see Spurs selling him with Eriksen leaving and I don't rate him playing deeper, but he actually might be a brilliant fit here as a Sheringham/Berbatov type who can hold up the ball, create for the speedy players around him and score a healthy number of goals, if we lose Pogba this summer as seems inevitable. Basically instead of signing a target man, sign Alli and hope that James-Gomes-Alli as 3/5th of our midfield with a sitting DM and one of the forwards (Greenwood or Rashford) at RW and another up top would be a technically skilled and fairly quick group able to play attacking football.

This. People might only realise the importance of a good manager and coaching staff if Ole stays until the summer and the 3 signings made summer just past turn to crap. Then there will be no excuse or other explanation, but not doubt Ole fan boys will find one and probably blame it on our other players.

Re:3 signings till now it s not the case. And I just hope that some posters over here don't start to slate them in order to prove their point that Ole is not up to it. Cause I started seeing this now.
Totally disgusting BTW.

Straight backed body shape. :wenger:
Busquets etc. Better overiew. Not wrong to describe his posture at all given the overall detail in the decripton of the playes.
If i was to critize that post, your example would not suit the bill given that his descriptions of the players are fairly accurate.
Better to use his valuation and selling price for Lingard, Pereira, Sancho and Havertz.

I thought his post was very good I just found the description a funny way to describe a style of play.

Luka Jovic is a must in my eyes, not wanted at Real Madrid and exactly what we need up front

Kai havertz I don't know if we can get him, but we need to try

Thomas Partey strength, passing and energy brought to a non existent midfield.

Those three alone would transform the team, then adding a right winger and a number 8, pref Sancho and a playmaker

3 realistic signings and he brings up sancho, havertz.

We are not selling for 250m and we are not buying for 400m. People need to come out of this game play mode.

Anyone mentioning Sancho have clearly missed the ‘realistic’ part. He will want Champions League football and will cost in excess of £100m and likely closer to £150m. It’s not going to happen unless we sold Pogba.

We need to start acting smarter in the transfer window. We have to at least try to go for Eriksen. Looking at the list of players with less than 12 months on their contract include players like Cavani, Matuidi and Savic. We need some experienced players at the minute, offer them say a 2 year contract.

I think Allan from Napoli would be a great buy to shore up our midfield. The big issue at the moment is there is no protection from CM.

To instantly improve our side we need 2 CM, a RW and a striker. I would also buy a LB as it’s clear we can never rely on Shaw to maintain fitness. Surely the board knew that before paying him a mega contract.

3 signings - ideally we get them in January.
Biggest problem in the squad at the moment is that there are a number of players who see their future away from it hence are demotivated. A case in point Matic. But I m sure there are others.
There are 3 roles where we desperately need reinforcements:

Experienced Striker: (Greenwood is still too green while Martial cannot be relied upon for all the games. Rashford is better LW)
Mandzuikic or Dembele seem to he most easily attainable.

Matic replacement: Dier is decent but is not creative enough.
Emre Can looks to have all attributes but he could be one who is in only for the money.
Matthias Norman is a riskier but cheaper option (20 m) His passing remind me of Bruno Fernández and he can play deeper. Only issue is whether he copes with the pace of the English game. At that price I think it s worth the risk.
Milosevic Savic may also be available even if he just signed a new contract. For the right price Lazio will sell. He can play as one of the pivots with McT.

RW this is the biggest headache as options are fewer, except Sancho of course who is unavailable in January and very doubtful in June.
Dalot if he stays fit should be given chance there if no proper winger is found.
Olmo may also be available.

Most realistic scenario (January)
Out: Matic, Fred
In: Can or Dier, Norman, Dembele or Mandzuikic

Re:3 signings till now it s not the case. And I just hope that some posters over here don't start to slate them in order to prove their point that Ole is not up to it. Cause I started seeing this now.
Totally disgusting BTW.
Have no idea what you’re on about in relation to my post. Ole himself has said “young players who will develop” is his model for signing players.

The three summer signings are all players who can still develop more and are not the finished article. Ole talks a lot but really what have we seen of his ability to develop players? From the players he already has at the club for 10 months, I’d say not much... but some people will say “but they are crap anyways” to that I say, I disagree but ok let’s see if the 3 summer signings develop, stagnate, or regress over the season. Nothing disgusting about that.

Is it only me who rates McTominay higher than Ndidi? If anything we need a CM who can pass.

Partey would be an immense signing for our midfield.
I don't rate McTominay higher than Ndidi at the present moment. His stats defensively are below Ndidi & his passing is not as good.

I'm not saying he doesn't have the potential to be better but he is not there yet.
