Henry could have off days and still look the best player in the Premiership. He had frightening ability. Arguably the best player the Premier League has seen.
2002/03.Didnt henry have a 20 20 season ? Thats a mad out put for a forward in the pl.
That sounds like you prefer Aguero.Henry was at least one level above Aguero - and I really like Aguero. When Aguero Plays against United I fear that he will score and decide the game - when Henry played against United, I feared that he would rip United to shreds.
Unbelievable season from a player to be just as clinical as creative is mad.2002/03.
I still wonder how Arsenal never retained the league that season. Not complaining though.
The football they played was incredible, on a different level to Guardiola's City.
Speak for yourself.Yeah this, prime Henry put the fear into teams, you don't get that same feeling with Aguero.
It was close for Ruud's first couple of years, although Henry probably shaded it a bit. Ruud was never quite the same after the injury in 04/05 so it was obviously Henry after that. Here on the Caf back then it was frequently claimed that RVN was better than Henry. Supposedly Henry choked in big games or something.
Drogba has to be in there somewhere for me.Henry easily for me. The real question is who would be 2-5 on ability, durability and meaningful contributions to trophy-winning sides. This:
Shearer
Aguero
Rooney
Van Nistelrooy
But if the question is who was the greatest at peak that's a tough one. I'd still go with Henry by a hair, but you could make a case for any of those five, even Ruud.
What about All-time XI of GOATs? No doubt about CR7 as LW in 4-3-3, but I think Henry is one of two contenders for #9 position. It's either him or Ronaldo. I don't think any other PL player would be picked for GOAT XI... Pogba, Kante and Salah could sit on the bench though.Henry and Cristiano are the absolute certs for an all-time EPL front three. Third spot would be between Agüero and Suárez depending on whether you prefer longevity or peak level.
Thread title: Aguero vs. Henry: The greatest PL #9?Henry > Aguero > Shearer, obviously.
Henry's #1st place doesn't have to explained I believe, and I'd put Shearer just below Aguero - superior goal tally perhaps, but also a fairly limited striker playing in weaker era. Still undisputed #3 though. #4 and #5 would be between Rooney and Suarez. The former for longevity, the latter for peak form.

Vast majority of posters picked Henry and the rest failed to produce any arguments in Aguero's favour so I thought we could expand on the debate of PL strikers, and PL legends in worldwide historic context.Thread title: Aguero vs. Henry: The greatest PL #9?
I'm not sure why it needs to be considered, considering that Shearer's physique was a bit part of his game that gave him a huge advantage as a player. And we're assessing a player's level, not just his technique.and who was 5’8”. For that reason, I think he beats Shearer. If you are going to compare Aguero with Henry, the difference in their physical statures in a physical league needs to be considered.
I’ve seen a few people say this but I’m sure they both played as a number 9? Henry used to drift to the left at times but he was still an out and out centre forward. As others have pointed out, Henry and Aguero haven’t really played in the same position, so comparison isn’t the best.
However, I cannot think of another number 9 in the PL who was as consistent as Aguero in terms of goals scored and important goals scored...and who was 5’8”. For that reason, I think he beats Shearer. If you are going to compare Aguero with Henry, the difference in their physical statures in a physical league needs to be considered.
Yeah, he used to drift wide but he was #9. Pires was their left winger, Henry and Bergkamp was their strikers.I’ve seen a few people say this but I’m sure they both played as a number 9? Henry used to drift to the left at times but he was still an out and out centre forward.
Yeah that’s how I remember it, if was only at Barca he played as a wing forward.Yeah, he used to drift wide but he was #9. Pires was their left winger, Henry and Bergkamp was their strikers.
While I agree with you in general, Agüero actually has a slightly better goalscoring record for Argentina than Henry does for France (without the benefit of having qualifiers against Malta, Cyprus, Lithuania and the Faroe Islands). His record for Argentina is not nearly as bad as people think.Aguero excels in City because they are always close to the opposing box. When the game gets crazy and he's far away from goal Henry had much more in his locker than Aguero. That's why he hasn't done anything for Argentina, they don't territorrially dominate the games. For this bigger versatility I nominate Henry.
