Alejandro Garnacho appreciation thread

Many people saying he needs to pass more, but I'm already seeing him doing that significantly more the last few matches. In fact he created many chances with his passes and crosses. Hopefully our financial situation isn't so dire that we need to sell him to Chelsea.

Listening to some stats on TOTD podcast. Needs one more goal or assist to equal Ronaldo’s total G+A before the age of 21. The only <21 players with more G+A than him in the top five leagues this season are Yamal and Doue.

And Garnacho’s been playing in a crap team!

Honestly, I always thought that the Bruno hate was the most moronic fan reaction to an underperforming team but I’m starting to think the United fans who think Garnacho is crap (because of dribbling stats or whatever the feck) would run it close.

As frustrating as he is, I'd hate to see him go this summer. Clearly has loads of talent and I do think the selfishness can be coached out to make him a better player.

I've been pretty impressed this season with Garnacho all things considered. He always grafting, working hard and generally positive in everything he does. What stands out for me with the improvement in his game this season is the cut backs into the box, it's clearly being worked on. I love that one to Ugarte against Lyon, was an excellent piece of play. If he starts producing that consistently along with brushing up on finishing we've got some player going forward who will consistently affect games for us. Excited to see how far he can go.

He’s going to be a top player I think. Will become a great goal scoring forward.

In or around 125 games played for United and still only 20 he’s a must keep in my opinion. He’s still learning , get a decent striker in next season and he can buy on this season

He's basically been asked to carry the attack of a completely dysfunctional side for the best part of two seasons now which isn't ideal for a player of 19-20. There's been no experience in that front three who he can look up to and learn from with the exception of Rashford who wasn't exactly a model professional.

Given that, he's doing fine. Of course he is frustrating at times and has dips in form but that will happen with young players. 20+ G/A is a fantastic effort for someone so young and there's more to come from him. Selling in the summer would be madness, it's not that simple to replace what he offers. People rave about Nico Williams but he's 2 years older, only has 10 G/A in the league and went missing when his team needed him last Thursday. That's not to say he isn't a quality player on his day but clearly he's not consistent either. Even an incredible talent like Yamal only has 1 goal in his last 20 league appearances.

Take some of the pressure off him with a couple of competent attacking signings and I've no doubt he'll kick on again next year.

Once he gets to 22-27 years old, he will be a beast for us. I’d rather keep playing him alongside Amad and Bruno, represent our best goal threats this far. If we can add a good goalkeeper and good central striker, we can fight for European places next season.

I am all for keeping him IF we can still fund the signings needed for a good summer, that's where I have concerns

20 goal involvements aged 20 and yet still gets regularly slaughtered on here. It's ridiculous. With a bit more maturity he could get to 30 g/a next season quite easily.

Sounded like TOTD, Mitten was pretty convinced he was going to get sold in the summer which would be a shame. Unfortunately no smoke without fire as per last window.

I like him. I don't think he's a worldie, but he's very good and hard working. He's who Sancho should be. Daft to sell him.

The real disappointment is Amorims inability to get the team playing. There's an awful lot of very good players already here.

Will be absolutely gutted if we sell him. He's a true Manchester United player, his attitude on the pitch, his work rate, his style of play, how he shows up in big games, his willingness and determination to improve and impress, his flair... That's the type of player we need to treasure and make sure we develop properly.

I don't mind reducing his role next season, he shouldn't be a key player yet, but he's been carrying our attack in a way for most of the past 2 years to be some cutting edge as we had nobody else who can run with the ball apart from the 2 months Amad was fit and playing. Need a more experienced #10 who can help in Garnacho's development, where Garna is coming in and out of the starting 11, competing for spots, being an impact sub when he isn't starting or off form but then when he's in form, he'll be starting. Plenty of games to go around and there's room in the side for Cunha, Garnacho and Amad to all get the right amount of game time, as well as Zirkzee rotating between 10 and CF if we do get someone like Gyokeres. The problematic players in terms of their role and expected minutes would be Hojlund won't get games, Mount won't have a role in the first or 2nd 11 really, and Mainoo would pretty much exclusively back up Bruno in midfield which then means he's not getting that much game time. But injuries happen so I'd bet he'll get enough overall. Main point is we shouldn't be selling Garna and we have space in the squad to add Cunha but keep Garnacho and Amad in the roles they need to be in.

He’s definitely grown into the system and his role the longer the season has gone.

His attitude, unlike most in our team, is great. He never stops and he has been maturing recently. Stupid if we sell him

One of probably the 2 or 3 players this season who hasnt regressed our team

He can be our Aguero or A. Sanchez. Just let him play in fully functional Amorim's team where we upgrade 5 players and with full preseason under belt and we will see a player like Garnacho to step up a gear.

Still is. The last bump to this thread was Nov 17th and there's a reason for it, Garnacho hasn't been good this year.

The majority of his G/A has been against relegation fodder or lower level competition in cup games.

Now considering this is the appreciation thread I'm happy he's a United player and over the last few weeks he's been much better outside of the goals. Seems to be looking for his team mates more and his work rate is always class and despite the level of competition 20+ G/A at 20 is fantastic.

Hopefully next year we'll have a stronger team so the burden isn't soley on him and a few others.

I really don’t fecking hope he leaves. We’d be criminal to do it. 21G+A at the age of 20 in this shit hole of a side is very very good.

He’s clearly very trainable and coachable. His adapted his game so much with Ruben’s introduction.

He is my favourite Utd player at the moment as I expect something to happen when he gets the ball and my favourite players are tricky skilful players.
I have a feeling he’ll be sold in the summer though as we would have quite a few takers for him but we will regret it if Amorim is sacked by Christmas.

He’s had a good season Id say. Has worked his way back into the team after than benching and has been a solid contributor overall. Not sure why so many are “frustrated” with him in particular. He makes some mistakes in the final third but no more than most 20 year olds in the PL and he basically cost us nothing. He’s been scoring lately as well. Should be a much improved player next year and hopefully we keep him.

Imo, these are the games where all the players need to score and do more. Three points is three points.

Being a flat track bully isn't necessarily a bad thing.

Is it just me who remembers Garnacho making assists against Arsenal, City, Liverpool & Newcastle?

Even if its not the assist he had the preassist in a lot of these big games.

United are better vs the big teams anyway and shit vs the lower teams.

We are 17th not because we can't beat Liverpool, its because we are not winning enough games that we should be winning against the lower league teams.

Garnacho scoring against these means usually he is performing against lower block teams.

Teams that are better than us cause us to play counter attacking football because we have to sit back instead.

Hard working, dynamic, dangerous. Give me more Garnachos in United’s attack. His potential is enormous and he looks a United player.

I very much want him to stay, even though his decision making often frustrates me. What he currently offers, even before we get into the player he might become, would require a fair bit of investment on our part. I'd rather take a chance on his continued improvement and invest time and resources in other positions where there is far greater need.

That's why i said "majority"

I really didn't want him to leave in January and then was slightly swinging towards him going for the right price. Now I just think we can't be letting him go. I'm not a big stats guy, but the stats are in his favour of what he offers. He may never be top level, but I'd like us to find that out with him with us.

Would bloody love to have a proper flat track bully at United to be fair.

Same. I said this on the Amorim thread a month ago and got slaughtered for it. I hope we get to see him as a winger in a 4-3-3 again soon.
Garnacho LW, Amad RW, Cunha AM with Bruno/Ugarte behind and it wouldn't matter if Hojlund/Zirkzee were up top, we'd score shit loads.

The rebuild would look so much less daunting if we were playing something like this. Maz in his natural position at RB too.

Yep, I am hopeful Amorim will move towards it in the league but keep 343 high possession for Europe.

Just taking last weekend's game as an observation, there was hesitancy from the Brentford players to get stuck into him when he was given a few yards of space to go forward.

He does have a fear factor when he's on the ball, which very few of our attacking players have. It would be a big mistake to let him go in my opinion, as he has got a lot of potential at the young age of 20 and is playing in an utterly dysfunctional team. We saw what he can accomplish more consistently prior to this, and should be part of the rebuild.

You need a player that just attacks like their har is on fire the second they get the ball to put the defense on their heels. Yes, this often can lead to sloppy and incoherent outcomes, but over the course of the game it's also what starts to open up the defense. He also is the perfect compliment to Amad on the other side, who is much more measured and controlled with his attacking style. The two of them on either side will be absolute nightmare next season if we can get the rest of the team right...

He asked to do the pre-match conference with Amorim. Like that.
