Welcome to Manchester reception committee
His dream is to join a club of such tradition as Liverpool

Well we've got tradition, more than that Scouse lot. So he's satisfying his dream right here

He said a dream - not the only dream.

That said, we are clearly the team
- though admittedly I've thought that for the last 50 years

In any case - God knows what he really said. The article even got his age wrong!

Ronaldo then: "I will have to hope that they make an offer that is good for both Sporting and myself."

Ronaldo recently: "I will have to hope that they make an offer that is good for both United and myself."

Similar too.

Of course it's a dream to play for any big club considering how much he would be earning and be sorted for life. Everyone of them/us will say the same thing, more so those from very poor background.

Let's also not forget that at the time we were heavily linked with Quaresma instead.

Obi Mikel is a cnut for what he did but for a few million pounds over a few years who here wouldn't do the same? If he wanted to he can retire in his mid twenties right after Chelsea and his whole family can live off that for eternity.

I fail to identify with these players entirely VII. I'd be like Scholes, I'd put convenience and happiness above driving an extra few thousand a week out of my employers. Money is most certainly not everything, and in your Mikel example, I certainly wouldn't have done what he did, irrespective of my United bias!

My only problem with the whole Ronaldo 'dream' thing is that its a load of bullshit. Its funny how his dream took a back seat to cold hard cash a year ago

This dream thing. I wonder if Ronnie's got it from our Theatre of Dreams. Maybe it went to his head, this dream thing. After all it is the Theatre of Dreams. What better place to see out your dream but at the theatre designed for it. Imagine, a theatre designed for dreams and that fulfils your dreams. Especially if you're want is to dream. A dreamer's theatre. What a vision. I sense a future gelling of theatre and dream with Ronaldo.
Or maybe not.

Even Bahama has lost his plot and rambling something

How about starting all over again for fun?

ok ok, i know there was a separate thread and i apologise to the thread police in advance for making a new one but I think this is important enough for all of us fans to understand....Classic case of media BS and selective hearing from the tabloids...

TV interview with BBC after the match and celebrations on the pitch
BBC TV presenter : Are you going to stay at Man United or are the rumours about you going to Real Madrid, are they true?
CR : I stay.

Radio interview with BBC after the match and celebrations on the pitch but before the TV interview

BBC Radio interviewer: Winning the Champions league..(muttering...).
CR : Of course, you know, this club has the opportunity to win everything. We show this season we are a great team, we are the best team in Europe, in the Premier league and next season we try to do the same again

Interviewer: Can you assure Manchester United supporters that you will be here next season?
CR : Say again?

Interviewer: Can you assure...you know, can you promise Manchester United supporters that you will be with them next season?

CR (laughing): I never promise nothing. I dont promise nothing to my mum...I dont promise nothing to the supporters

Interviewer: But, but, when you say I want...
CR (cutting off the interviewer): I want to stay, i want to stay, really...Its OK, i want to stay. But the future no one knows, but I want to stay.

Interviewer : But does there have to be a new contract or something like that?
CR : I dont know nothing..Nobody speak with me...eh...We are going to see next two weeks, OK?

Interviewer: But when you say, "I will make a decision"....i mean...that means that?
CR (cutting off the interviewer): I dont say " I will make a decision..I dont say...I dont say that...Its the the club take the decision... I dont know...I think...I dont know...
:annoyed:

You are taking the dream thing too seriously I think. It's just things they say. If he's at Real now and Chelsea or United is offering him twice his wages then his new dream would be to play for Chelsea or United.

I've no doubt you would not put convenience and happiness over a few thousand a week but I doubt you've lived in poverty. There are many places where people do far worse for very little money. In fact I just saw in the news recently baby girls being sold for less money than a day's wage in the UK.

This summer I was so mad at him and his unwillingness to commit to United as the most of you must have been. But ever since Cantona I don't think any player has driven us that much towards the title and it is quite silly to think of how much I hated him by june/july.

Don't want to hate him so I made video with some of his goals last season just to remind myself how invaluable he is. I'll post it in a thread when it's uploaded

For a couple of years after "that goal" against Arsenal in 99, Giggs got an easier ride but people forget and after a bad run of form he didn't get so much booed as jeered (particularly one time when he got sub'd off) How many people? Probably not that many - sometimes it doesn't need that many.
The decision to substitute him was cheered.

The press reported he was booed off.

My parents lived in what would probably be considered poverty, thankfully I've been brought up in a nice environment. I'm aware Ronaldo's family were relatively poor, but did he grow up in poverty? I'd be careful listening to anything the media say about it, they'll always exaggerate to suit whatever story they are writing at the time. Has Ronaldo spoken about it?

Whatever, he isn't in poverty anymore, and hasn't been for many years. His family will never need to work again if he's sensible with his money, and a move to Madrid to get a few extra thousand or whatever a week won't change that. Poverty background or not; greed is greed is greed

Is this thread going to be kept for all of the 2009 Ronaldo speculation as well? Or should we have a seperate 2009 thread and see if we can beat this one?

Didn't we sign him at 18?
He was on trails at Anfield and Houllier was determined to keep him. But Pool couldn't match the demand of £10M from Lisbon and blew the chance away.

We had the likes of Scholes, O'Shea (dream season), Ruud, Veron and Beckham in the team and after Beckham's departure we were chasing Ronaldinho, so not bothered about Cristiano although we were scouting him.

He tore us apart in a preseason friendly and the rest was history.

Ronaldo boost for United as winger's comeback now ahead of schedule

Cristiano Ronaldo is ahead of schedule in his comeback following ankle surgery, it emerged today.

The Manchester United winger is currently recuperating after treatment on a problem that plagued him last season and was not expected to play first team football for at least two months.

But United manager Sir Alex Ferguson revealed today that Ronaldo has astounded specialists with the speed of his recovery so far.

Very little interest in this thread at the moment, compared to the Berbatov thread on the transfer forum.

I wonder which would be the more significant development; retaining Ronnie or signing Berbatov (assuming we could choose either one or the other)?

retaining Ronaldo, by a distance in truth

best player in the world. Gives the team great balance. Still improving. Strong in the air. A threat from set pieces etc

I think the thread will pick up the moment more rumors about his supposed speedy recovery are coming through and he might play 1 or 2 weeks earlier than originally planned/thought.

All the emotion gone from this thread as its been settled. Threads only multiply logarithmically when its emotion packed.
Now we're all creaming on the Berbaraldo thread.....natural.
