His time was underwhelming. He's been underwhelming everywhere he's been apart from Italy, where he's absolutely brilliant always. Chelsea were the Man City of the league when he was there, yet stuttered from one result to the next picking up scrappy unimpressive wins here and there, when a lot more was expected.

Does that we can sign Ronaldo now? Dybala can stay at Juve forever. Would love Ronnie to be back as our centre forward.

Underwhelming? Did he not set the new goals scored record and GD in 09/10 season and win FA Cup?

I haven't said that no player with a big ego can have team spirit, but the chances are that, generally speaking, players with big egos will have less time for a team ethos.

Kane is arguably the best forward in the world, which shows having a big ego is not a necessary quality to being or becoming a top player.

And as much as you want to drag Ronaldo into the discussion - and it's easy to win things when you play for clubs that can throw money around like confetti - my main point is that Pochettino prefers players who don't have big egos and actively moves to get rid of players who do.

This notion that big egos translates to top quality is the same sort of football snobbery that decries signings from lower leagues and cleaves to players who are paid vast wages and/or sign for huge transfer fees. It's just another type of glory-hunting.
It wasn’t snobbery. It’s admirable the job he has done and I am not attacking your club, Kane or Pocchettino.

By the way I think I do know what means working, signing or supporting non fashionable players.

Sorry for the stupid last sentence there, but I have a strong opinion on managers, players and egos, for me it’s not clear someone working under different conditions cannot adapt his ideas to different circumstances.

Only that. And one day someone will explain to me how being unlikable of the pitch turns him into a liability to the team.

And there are certain aspects of Ronaldo who can create some challenges on a tactical level, but the best managers are the ones who can find solutions.

Carlo was magnificent with Chelsea and the only reason he was sacked after his second season was because Roman was a spoilt child back then when it came to managerial position changing.

This would fit Mourinho very well. Solid defensive players, good solid foundation in midfield, and offense. A tweak here and there, proper tactics/strategy, they could win something beyond the league.

He'd be great fit there and I think he could install a similar system as he played in Madrid due to similar players. Dybala can play the Ozil part, Pjanic the Alonso one, multiple players Khedira's part and he has Cuadrado/Costa for the right wing, actually similar player types to what Di Maria once was. Mandzukic can also be played as a supporting striker up front. Of course it would require some tweaks since Ronaldo isn't the same anymore (but still very, very good) but in general I believe this squad fits to Mourinho's interpretation of football at Madrid quite well.

Only question is if Cristiano is willing to work with Mourinho again. From what's being said they didn't really part on good terms.

Mourinho and Ronaldo get along fine, they fixed the problems they had. Much more likely they get back together for the national team than with Juve given Mou’s history with Inter though.

He literally mocked Juve fans when United played there a few months ago, would be insane to see him manage Juve.

Italy is the best league for Jose and on top of that, Juve is exactly his type of squad. Top defence, hard working midfield with playmaker, quick wingers and goal maschine in attack. Plus Mandzukic as plan B.

Plus result is only what is important:)

Allegri is a Chelsea manager. They're used to, and love that dogged, backs to the wall, defensive shite. Their squad is also built for it, which is why they do so well with Italian managers, with the exception of Sarri of course who plays an Italian version of tiki taka.

I think Cristiano would be just fine working with Mourinho. At this late stage of Cristiano’s career, i’m sure he’s in it to win a few more trophies. He knows he has a better chance with a good manager on his side. I also think Mourinho would be using Cristiano very differently now to when they were both at Real Madrid. Cristiano was much younger then and i’m sure Mourinho needed him to work for the team a lot more then.

I think it will be similar to us here. Some fans will warm to him and some won’t.

Nail on head. You’ve got it. This team fits Jose to a T and it would just need a few tweaks and they should be flying.

Juventus President Andrea Agnelli confessed parting company with Max Allegri was “the toughest decision” of his career, but it was “the right time.”

https://www.football-italia.net/138189/agnelli-toughest-juventus-decision

Max Allegri admitted the club “decided it was best that I wouldn’t be Coach of Juventus next season,” but denied requesting a long contract or revolution of the team.

The tactician was told on Friday that he would not be on the Bianconeri bench next season, despite being under contract until June 2020.

“I thank the President for his wonderful words. I thank the lads for all they’ve done, all they’ve given me, including all the players over the five years,” said Allegri, choking back tears as he looked at the entire squad sitting in the front two rows of the Press conference.
Max Allegri used his farewell Juventus Press conference to hit out at critics. “Those who win regularly are better than the others, that’s all there is to it. I’d like to give an example…”

Good stuff. You rarely see two parties handle a separation that classy. Thank you and good luck, Mister!

Yeah, while he wouldn't have the same resources, he'd still surely get to spend a lot and they're already quality. That's his bag.
Juve will be winning the league every comfortably for the next few seasons easy, if there's ever a time for Pep to go, I'd say now. Would be interested in how he works with Ronaldo.

The obsession with the Champions League is getting ridiculous, especially as you need luck to win it. It's not a realistic expectation of any team or coach to definitely win the Champions League because one bad match, maybe even one bad 45 minutes, and you're gone.

Manchester City are comfortably the best team in Europe, with the best coach, they've put 198 points on the board over two seasons in the hardest league, and they haven't won it. They haven't even got to the final.

Everyone knows that Serie A is a piece of cake to win for Juventus, but I don't see how you can replace someone who has won it five times in a row because they played one bad game against Ajax.

I suppose lots of posters are younger and don't care, but I enjoy football less and less. It's such a cynical, uber-commercialised world. Virtually all of the European leagues have been destroyed by money. Serie A used to be a truly great competition, now it's garbage. Ligue 1 is almost completely pointless. How many consecutive seasons have Bayern won the Bundesliga? Wow, I wonder if they'll be in the title race next season, I can't wait to find out.

All because of the obsession with the Champions League. Well, not entirely, but it has been the biggest contributor to this. And now you get sacked if you don't win it, even if you win the league five years in a row.

It's less to with what happened in CL and more to do with the fact he's been there 5 years already. It's very rare for a cycle to go on longer than that.

When it comes to rumours and reports of any level of disarray within the club, they're usually air tight. If such things come out, it's because the club is allowing them to. We might never know what actually happened between Allegri and Nedved-Paratici-Agnelli, but PR-scripted press conferences aside, the reports that came out sound very likely to be true

The rest of Serie A must be licking their lips. If Sarri was at Napoli I'd back them to win the title next season. Juve are about to be in transition without their football structure around that's helped them get all this success.

Could not form a team around a Ronaldo.

How do you manage to be so incompetent at attacking tactics that you do that?

He belongs at Chelsea

I completely agree, but in this particular case I would guess it has more to do with a cycle coming to an end rather than Allegri being punished for not winning the CL. The days of a manager staying forever in a (top) club are mostly over.

What's wrong with Allegri staying after the end of a cycle?

Nothing WRONG with it, but it would seem natural to freshen things up and, as I said, you don’t get managers staying forever at the top clubs anymore.

I’m very certain that Guardiola won’t be at City in, say, 2024 regardless of how much he is winning.

Increased chances of failure. Also Allegri wanted a new contract, he wouldn't stay on with only one year left

Completely agree with this, and it's all part of a developing effort to get the top clubs out of their leagues entirely into a no-relegation European money-competition. Imagine the boredom of that permanent loop.

They were winning with Conte before Allegri, Paratici is the transfers guy and Nedved and Agnelli can and have taken on more responsibility to replace Marotta. They will be fine, unless they hire a moron for a coach, which they won't. They might not win the title next season because hey, 9 in a row, seriously, but they'll still be a great side.

Marotta signed off on everything. Losing the key decision maker is what leads to clubs giving the likes of Ramsey a huge contract. He was also the man hiring everyone and putting them in place. He hired Conte and Allegri even after he was discarded by Milan. They are asking for trouble.

Agnelli and Nedved were part of the decision making, and they proved good at it too. They're the ones who hired Marotta and Paratici afterall. Don't remember who thought of Allegri honestly, whether it was Marotta, Paratici, Nedved or Agnelli. Conte was kind of an obvious choice, with the entire juventus world clamouring for him to get the job. It was as much a calculated choice as it was appeasing the fans. Marotta's era actually had a false start, with Del Neri and a bunch of bad transfers.

As for giving ramsey a huge contract being a mistake, we'll see. Not like they broke their wage structure for him though, anyways

City are a very good side, but why should they be called the best side in Europe when everytime they meet a decent opponent it's curtains for them? City have been no.1 for years when it comes to spending money, it would only be fair game to expect them to win at least one Champions-League. Getting their asses handed to them by Monaco or Liverpool running absolutely riot is nothing but embarrassing, even Spurs with all the injuries advanced. After three years in a row Guardiola has failed to win the the thing he was hired to do.

Juve didn't sign Ronaldo to win the league, they're gunning for the Champions-League. He scored both in the home and away game, still it wasn't enough so something must be wrong here. Especially since Ronnie has been winning three CLs on the bounce before.

The aformentioned clubs have the most money in their respective leagues so winning them in a row isn't that special. It's what's expected of them. Losing to minor clubs longterm will see you face the sack, so rightfully Juve are changing something now, IMO. One or two early exits could see the end of Guardiola at City or standards have fallen.

One more interesting thing when we are discussing who's gonna be Juve's new coach is if and how that guy will handle the Ronaldo situation. When you have one of the best players in the world of the last decade in his last stage of his career you surely will not hire someone like Inzaghi or Mihajlovic to deal it it, no?

You are working hard too give the suits too much credit. They hired Beppe, he got in Paratici who he worked with at Sampdoria, he then hired Del Neri and it went pear shaped. He got rid, hired Conte and the rest is history.

It's not actually surprising that Allegri has left. After getting rid of Beppe it's obvious that the club disagrees with the direction he and him were taking the club. Rumor has it they wanted to make big changes(go into transmission) while Agnelli and Nedved feel there's more to get out of this side.

Come on, we all know Ramsey who's injury prone and not all that good isn't worth a big contact. Rumor has it he's going to be the second best payed player at the club.
