Solskjær had it right when he first came into the club as manager. I’m paraphrasing, but he was asked “what can you do to bring the best out of Sanchez?”, who was having an absolute stinker of a season as we all know.
Ole replied saying “it’s not about how I can get the best out of him, he has to produce for us. I’ll give him opportunities to impress but at the end of the day it’s up to him”.
The idea that Martial has never really kicked on because he hasn’t been given a chance or is being played out of position is rubbish, he’s had plenty of chances and has never really kicked on.
He doesn’t make the runs, always comes short to have it to feet, and looks disinterested - not just in the warm up but in the matches too.
I’d love him to have an attitude change and really dig in here, but he hasn’t done it up to now so why would he start?
There are a few other players that I would add into the “had their chance but have failed to impress” group, it’s not about getting the best out of those players, it’s about recruiting players that are better than that, that are MAN UTD players.
At the end of the day, you can’t polish a turd.
