I know everyone is assuming Barca and everything does point that way but...

Isn't this exactly the kinda marquee signing we would go for? Plus he's good mates with Pogba so might make him feel a bit happier about staying.

Don't want to get my hopes up but there's a voice inside tempting me...!

How does Barca have so much money? They spent 100m on Dembele and another 100m on Coutinho, and now another 100m on Griezmann?

It just shows you how a top club striving to improve should be run.

United persist with the likes of Lingard, Young and Jones giving them endless opportunities even though they have been stinking the place up for years.

Barcelona have Coutinho, Dembele and Malcolm and they could easily say ‘let’s give them another year to see if they can progress’, but no, they go out and sign Griezmann. And De Jong.
Not that our club is well run, but their situation is different.

Messi is 31 years old, several other key players are over 30 - they are going all-in for the CL trophy. There is no time for "let’s give them another year to see if they can progress"

De Ligt and de Jong are great future investment too though.

He plays Messi's position so not sure why Barca are buying him. Maybe he's off to Real

It’s very simple. You forget

A) The Rakuten deal
B) The Nike deal
C) The Neymar money which combined with Barca’s annual transfer budget was more than enough to buy Dembele and Coutinho
D) Selling players such as Paco, Gomes, Mina etc. with now Coutinho and possibly Rakitic out too.

Coutinho and Dembélé were paid by Neymar, the rest is within their means. They have big commercial deals and win lots of prize money.

This is absolutely insane. Barcelona's wage bill will be nearly twice as big as clubs like Real Madrid... :houllier:

I guess they're trying to make an insane investment to get the best out of Messi's last years?

How about football money being put back into football operations, meaning they can really spend? They would need to sell to fund transfer, mind? And Neymar release up front cash helps too. However the underlying point is their board has to take responsibilities with the playing, and managing staffs means they are forced to continue in this game. It's well within their mean in the whole scheme of thing. It's not like they're spenind the same way every summer. There would always other years of spending less. The thing is they wouldn't leave their team incomplete.

No players in La Masia?
Or reality is that no club can forcefully produce world class player on consistent basis, let alone world best players in their position and have this "X way". As it stands, the best clubs of their time adapt to the situation at the time. SAF and Man Utd used to be evil spending expensive vs a romantic Wenger Arsenal building on budget.

Thing is, when was the last time a good player came out of there. Seems like eternity.

Publicly flirted with different clubs for two consecutive seasons. La Decision. Quite.
Who gives a shit. He's worked hard to be an amazing footballer and earned the right to look around of he so pleases. He can go anywhere he wants pretty much because he's really good. Most of the best players nowadays do this. Ronaldo, Hazard etc all steer for the move that's best for their own needs and that's fine.

That's the whole point, isn't it. Find the young talent in itself is a task in itself before talking about developing young talent to be a first team player. Barcelona standard is very high in recent time. We talk about what used to be Dream Team line up back in the days where talents was more scattered.

Sergi Roberton is good enough first team players without that high expectation. Kinda like Fletch vs class of 92 for our version.

I don't think Lukaku transfer is directly related to Griezmann. Lukaku is more about the Zlatan injury. Griezmann was meant to be upgrade on Mkitaryan/Alexis kind.

Wouldn't have had the funds for both though and Griezmann would definitely of been Ed's first choice

What's the point of staying with Atleti then when he could have left a year ago?

Griezmann is that commercial signing, where Ed would be happy to go overboard. Remember how that brief went about this club would be happy to spend 100 mil on Varane but sign noone else for same position.
