If Antony is the target, if it’s him or no one. Just pay up now, because they’ll rinse us in January and they’ll rinse us next summer if we don’t get it done this window.

For all Ajax’s talk they will sell

It’s been explained before on the Athletic that if Ajax refused to sell a player for a big fair fee, they’d tie their own hands behind their backs.

Because the next teenage Brazilian hot prospect will think twice before joining them and they’ll ruin their whole business model

The club can’t move failed players on due to their high wages, not their transfer fees. I’ve seen nothing reported that suggests that Antony will be coming on a high wage (unlike Casemiro).
Sure, the transfer matters more in our failed window on the other side. Teams can string us along and ask for unreasonable, impossible prices because they know we have a habit of paying them. That disrupts our team planning by delaying recruitment, and sometimes pricing us out of a move by asking for a price they’d ask from no other team.

Whether it matters in selling is something neither you or I know, since United don’t explain why they struggle to sell so much. Given we’re so much worse than other teams, it’s not unreasonable to suggest there’s multiple reasons. Wages count the most but it’s entirely possible that we don’t stomach selling players for a huge loss; the high wages mean we get a lower fee by default, but the high fee we paid in the first place could easily make us hold out for more than their actual worth too. After all, it’s a reflection of how much we think they’re worth, which often differs from other teams.

pretty much. they’ll just wait until ziyech agrees to join then ‘reluctantly’ be forced to sell

Ajax might be a lot more willing to lose Anthony if they can make sure Ziyech comes back. They might even make money out of it, cause I don't think Ziyech would cost as much as Anthony is being quoted for.

Gotta try a bit harder. It's funny with Neverkusen, but Feyenoord won a title and two cups in the last ten years...

What's your confidence based on? I really want to sign him, but I think it very easily could go either way with him. I want to believe he's a sure thing, but I simply don't. Doesn't mean I'm not excited by the prospect though.
Just a feeling. Looks physically up for it and has the needed arrogance to play in the PL. Still only 22 as well so much room for improvement.

Can't help feeling a bit worried about this since the Eredivise is a league where someone like John Guidetti looked like a star.
Or someone like De Jong, van Nistelrooy, Stam, Suarez, Rijkaard,Cruyff, Seedorf, van Der Sar, van Persie, Koeman, Sneijder, de Boer, Kluivert, Davids, Gullit, can Basten and Bergkamp looked like a star
Nonsense, my grammar is vastly superior to the average Feyenoord fan.
 ;) Nice one mate.

The price is high without question but for me Antony's ability in the transition will transcend any league. And like I've said in the past, the best teams in the EPL are those who excell at transitioning play from back to front. It's why I've argued in the past about signing players like Chiesa over Sancho due to how they help in both the offensive and defensive transition.

Yeah Trippier is mint but like usual the board cant see a good signing if it hit them in the face sadly.
It was widely reported that Atletico wanted £40M for him at the time. Quite rightly United did the CAF's favourite thing and "walked away" from the deal.

1 Year later he goes to Newcastle for £12M

I mean we tried to but Atletico asked for far too much in the summer. Don’t know why we didn’t go back for him though.

What can Antony do that Sancho/Rashford can't? Genuine question.

Can we stop paying 80+ million for players who have proved diddly squat. It's why we have such a shit squad.
