Arsenal, Treble, in their dreams

Though I am a die hard MU fan and basically believe that in England there are only two good teams, that is MU & MU reserves, I always support British clubs in Europe. Yes, even Liverpool. But those premature, arrogant talks of the treble by Arsene Wenger and some of his immature players were beginning to get out of hand. Back in 99, MU rarely or never realy talk about the treble until they start securing the League, then the FA cup. At this stage when Arsenal needs a big favour and good fortune to reach the QF of the European Cup, Not even in the Semis of the FA cup and still some way to go for the Premier League and they were already dreaming out loud for the treble. I popped a champagne when they were knocked out. Though very uncharacteristic of me, knowing that I support British clubs in Europe, for all those rubbish talks by Arsenal for the treble, they might just get it now. That is a treble of no trophies in all competitions.

Wenger reckons his side can win the league now. <img src="graemlins/lol.gif" border="0" alt="[Laugh Out Loud]" />

Well they can! and have a bloody good chance which will be further enhanced by not having the distraction of europe while we and Liverpool do.

I was hoping the gooners would make the QF but go no further, just to give them a couple more games to distract them from the league.....

I think yesterday's result will have a negative effect on them, while Liverpool's win Vs Roma will lift them..

I dunno, I feel kind of bad for them. LFC were in last place in their group, and got lucky to make it. I never thought LFC would. It's amazing how things can turn around.

The Arse were in a very tight group. I think all four clubs are around even, except Porto maybe. Just got a little unlucky, although it would've helped if they'd won anything away in Europe.

They've looked poor the last 3 matches too.

Wenger was silly to talk up this treble nonsense, I'm not sure what kind of mindgames he was trying to play, but it blew up in his face.

They're still a decent club and our only true rivals, and their fun to watch when United aren't playing, unlike LFC.

Who cares wheather Liverpool were lucky or just good. They are in the quarter finals now. But anyone who says they are good enough to win it is big headed. Do Liverpool really expect to capture the European Cup at the first attemmpt? Whilst they won the Junior European Cup last year they haven't the experience to win the proper one and neither have Arsenal. It will be a great side like Manchester United, Real Madrid or Bayern Munich that wins as they have learnt what the Champions League is all about over the last ten years.

Forget any talk about the Arsenal treble - Wenger was even more bloody stupid when he recently said that Arsenal will win the European Cup. Unbelievable.

I have heard no other manager make that claim. It sounds like something coming from the very big mouth of my favourite Neanderthal look-alike - Effenberg. Except in Effenberg`s case it came true.

Can you imagine Sir Alex saying that Manchester United would win the European Cup if the club could not make the quarter finals?

Even given Arsenal were unlucky because of Deportivo fielding a weakened team, it is a quantum leap in logic to say they will win the European Cup. Before that legendary night in Barcelona Sir Alex and the club were saying things like `Believe` and `We can win` but that is a hell of a lot different from saying what Wenger is saying in the context of Arsenal`s current situation.

Like all voyeurs, Arsenal et al can talk about it but they can`t do it!

Arsenal have an easy schedule left. 1 very hard game - Away to Manchester United - hopefully they will lose that one. But still i think ( unfortunatley ) that they will win the Premier league this year. But to be in it at this point when tou think about October-november, where Manchester United were lacking just about everything, is an achievement.

My maths has never been that great - so put me right here if needs be.

Everyone - even MUTV - keep saying that the title is in Arsenal's own hands because of the game in hand. Well it is, but surely it's also in our hands. If we win all our remaining games, it's our title isn't it?
