And people will forget that deal and blame someone else for transfer fees inflation.

I'm just delighted he's not gone to the dippers.

Happy he's going there. One of those where nobody will care about the price since he's a beastly player

Total agreement reached between Monaco and Real

Madrid outlets claim it'll be officially announced in a few hours

Will be the best midfielder in the world within 3 years imo. He has it all. Always hoped we could get him but thank god he’s going there and not to the scousers.

Benzema may need replacing in a couple of years but they have one hell of a team for the future.

Digressing slightly but how much of a fraud is Fabrizio Romano. His 'here we go' show up only when credible journalists, Ornstein in this case, have broken the story. Or am I missing something?

Wow.

Have to hand it to Real. Managing to replace a GOAT midfield of Kroos, Casemiro and Modric with Tchouameni, Camavinga and Valverde for €135m is great business.
If anything this deal just serves to highlight what absolute bargains Valverde and Camavinga were.

It's pretty well established that Romano mostly regurgitates info from other A-tier journos.

This is the guy we wanted Pogba to be.
Let’s wait and see. Pogba was a much bigger star when we bought him.
Tchouameni is not going to find La Liga easy. He’s going to get yellow cards for some tackles he hasn’t gotten before.

100m for a defensive mid is ridiculous.
Saying "for a defensive midfielder" is ridiculous and an old concept of thinking. Defensive midfielders are as important as any position on the pitch. Trying to make defensive players seem like easy players to fill in is what's gotten us into this situation of having a garbage midfield for years.

What would you pay for a young Vieira? Keane? Makalele? Kante? Tchouameni is that.

Crazy price. The kid's career has barely started. Hopefully the weight of this price tag doesn't scar the rest of it.

No one thinks defensive midfielders aren’t important. They’re just less important than most other positions on the pitch because they don’t impact games as much as forwards.

Sure, if you are blind as a bat to his impact. France played without Pogba and with him and Kante in midfield, looking utterly toothless in progressing the ball into attack. Even when he did play alongside Pogba, it was Pogba doing the lion's share of the work.

That's not true though, is it? Can have all the great forwards but if you aren't balanced in midfield, it's not gonna work? They impact the game as much as anyone. They don't score goals or assist, but there's a lot more to football than just that. Were Yorke or Cole more important than Keane for us? Was Vardy more important than Kante for Leicester?

At Liverpool, Trent Alexander Arnold is a right back yet he's arguably their most important player. It's literally just to do with the system you play and the quality of the player. Not really the position they play.

They weren't the issue, France played the same midfield and moved the ball perfectly fine. The other day the issue was the lack of dynamism from the Coman, Griezmann and Théo.

Just seems like too perfect a transition to go seamlessly from CMK to these young three, football usually throws a spanner in

Yorke and Cole were more important than Keane, Vardy was more important than Kante and Trent isn’t Liverpool’s most important player. It’s the ones who put the ball in the back of the net, just like it has been for every team who’s ever existed.

Also I'd guess the coaching.

100m is a crazy fee for him....a bit even more crazy simply due to still having Kroos, Modric and Casemiro along with Camavinga and Valverde. Also bc they had much bigger holes in their squad to fill but we all know money isn't really an object/concern for Madrid as they can comfortably find ways to get money when it's needed to be spent.

Alright I'm gonna have to 100% disagree with you here. That's just not true in the slightest, but ok.

Not really, the coach is same. Both teams had no energy, the game could have been summarized to Kanté, Tchouaméni, Eriksen and Cornelius had fuel in the tanks while the rest were cooked.

How anyone can seriously write that after watching us for the last three years is beyond me
If you think we’d be a better team with the best defensive mid in the league (Rodri, Fabinho or whoever you think it is) vs if we’d had the best attacking player in the league (Salah, KDB or whoever you think it is) you’re simply wrong.

We all love United
Real can’t get Mbappe and Haaland so they go to splashing 100M euros on this guy on a position whom they probably don’t even need?

For a new(ish) poster, you have a very authoritative, condescending stance on topics you yourself seem to be clueless on, which is why I am 100% convinced you are a returnee.

Do you see him playing progressive passes or carrying the ball like Pogba? Which was what that post was suggesting that he was supposed to be something Pogba wasn't. He might be a bit more diligent in his defensive duties and positioning but in terms of flair and creativity, he's nowhere in the same bracket. Which is insane considering he's going for the same price as Pogba did when we bought him.
