Of course they are, only genuine idiots thought they’d be bankrupt or whatever rubbish was spouted in here for months. They’re still not in a great place financially but they’ll be fine in the end.
So that 270m means they're now only 730m in debt. Nice!

Guarantee they use the money on transfers.
Somebody said they can only use a portion of it on transfers that I was reading on twitter, but don't know if that's 100% true.

Makes sense though, the last thing they need is more expensive transfers they can't pay for.

Read the Reuters article, it's revenue...

Deal benefits few big clubs who will get money for stadiums etc and screws the rest.

Can't see Turkeys voting for Christmas, but you never know.
Sorry didn’t see the Reuters article. Crikey. That’s a bold move

edit: link to Reuters article for those interested. In essence, clubs get cash now in exchange for a reduction in future revenue from the league (TV rights etc).

Would they still have to reduce their wage bill by the huge numbers cited in the press?

Probably much less than expected up to now, as this would be revenue for this season.

However this would nean their income from the league will decrease in the long term, so this deal feels quite short sighted to me.

This deal probably feels pretty good right now for Barcelona but it is calamitous in the long term. Once those tentacles are in they are a fecker to remove.
Should have gone to wonga instead……
If this is subject to a vote then other clubs should certainly vote against. That is presuming they aren’t in similar positions

Yes. This only adds an extra €40M to their cap, so they're still screwed for now

Yeah, you would imagine that there would be some rules about their pet project The Super League as well. Cannot see an equity firm laying out this sort of money for La Liga to then be happy for them to create a Super League a few years down the line.

According to Graham Hunter Barcelona are still £100mil short of the la liga requirements to register Messi for the new season. So £100mil of sales or £100mil off wage bill and Messi can be registered. Otherwise Barcelona kicks off the season in 15 days without Messi who is still on holiday in ibiza and hasn't returned to preseason training.

Theres a special la liga meeting in next few days where the rules might be changed so Messi can be registered as he that important to la liga.

What about the other signings...?

Barcelona haven't done anything to reduce wage bill as far as I can see.

Only change is la Liga agreeing to garnish their income 10% indefinitely for upfront cash. Like a payday loan...

Probably gets voted down if clubs have any sense at all.

it's so weird that the LaLiga teams are not prepared for Messi to retire/leave. If the media is correct in saying that Messi generates revenue for every club just by being in the same league. Seems like bad management to me, relying on the revenue created by 1 player.

The money isn't going towards OpEx. It won't help them out of their current situation. I am still of the firm belief LaLiga will give Barcelona a waiver.

Almost certain, La Liga are so beholden to Real and Barca they're always more than happy to get down on their knees and swallow whatever is put in front of them.

Irony is some of the other clubs not the big 3 are in favour of helping Barcelona. Getafe chairman said "Messi is too important to la liga", and he's a staunch madridist at heart.

Crazy mentality surely this is the chance for a Sevilla or someone to attempt a Leicester City and win la liga. Or for Bilbao or someone to try to get a CL spot while the likes of Madrid and Barcelona are weak/going through a rebuild.

That's a very weird way to put it though, Bayern isn't owned by another club, it's 75% owned by an association, and the 25% remaining are owned by Audi, Allianz and Adidas. Barcelona is 100% owned by its members. Not saying that one is better than the other since Bayern proved to be a very stable and well managed structure but that's the way it is, it's not "just like Barca".
For all intents and purposes, legally and in practicality, Bayern is a 100% member owned club like Barca is. That he's getting hung up on details is just him losing an argument and grasping at straws. But we're also not discussing Munich here, since their sound financial management speaks for itself. And they have to compromise on the field to stay clean. Someone telling me there isn't a skewed competition in the CL is clearly deluded.

Erm…….. little bit awkward……… wasn’t sure whether to bring it up ………… but it seems you’ve been living under a rock for the last 15 years………
I haven't, but at some point you have to start saying "No." Stuff going wrong for years and years is not a reason to let it keep going wronger... not sure how you think life works, but at some point you are actually able to say "Enough is enough." Otherwise things would never improve and we'd still live in feudal systems.

Apparently Real Madrid are not in favour of this agreement and will sue la liga if they go forward with this.

I don't get it. Nobody's that important. They survived without Ronaldo and Neymar, they'll survive without Messi. I'd welcome a step back towards sanity in football transfers. It's ridiculous that one player dictates what an entire league is doing. If I was one of the smaller teams, I'd tell him and Barca to go f themselves.

There might be some truth to it. The spanish domination of the CL is gone, and while they had three players in the league who could be seen as the best in the world, Messi is now the last remaining contender for the Balon d'Or.

When he is also gone, what is left of the glory of the Primera Division?

The same they always had? Brilliant Spanish flavored football with good talents and a league with a great history? I do not buy this doom and gloom rhetoric for one second. You know, there was 150 years of football before Messi. And there will be centuries of football after Messi, too. If an international football community gets hung up on one player this bad, people are probably having wrong priorities. No offense, but Barca has been glorious long, long before Messi's dad even set eyes on his mum.

And for all his skill and his awesomeness, Messi is not a WC winner. Think about that. Maybe, just maybe, football is a team sport. And all the waterboys in Barcelona carrying Messi through games when he "doesn't feel like it" are worth more than him on his own.

In the end, you have to ask yourself a simple question: Do you want to spend half a billion for a few brilliant moves? Is it worth half a billion for one or two dribbles per game from a genius? Or would you rather have a team that costs half that and doesn't require moments of geniuses to win? I'd rather have a good team without Messi, but I'm probably the oddball here. I wouldn't buy players for Youtube compilations, is all.

International marketing and revenue developed over the last decades, you can't compare that to days past.

And as I said the problem is not Messi as an individual, but that there is no one else on a similar marketing value level.

Real has no Galacticos anymore, things would look different if they would sign Haaland and Mbappe, but they just don't do that

International marketing and revenue aren't the problem. If Barca HAD good international marketing and revenue, we wouldn't be having this discussion. Fact is, Messi is not generating enough revenue to justify his cost. If you want to get all business about this, he's a bad investment. Especially when you can see the end of his usefulness on the horizon already. I dare say he's on his last contract now.

The problem is that Barca is playing a risky game here, they have to sweep the CL multiple times in the upcoming years to justify the cost. And I don't see them doing that. The two Madrid clubs are too strong to even guarantee national titles with certainty. Internationally, there's PSG, Bayern, Juve and a whole bunch of English clubs that can easily spoil Barca's party on a good day. Heck, Neymar alone is probably tryharding more against Barca than anyone else, just to spite them.

The more I think about it, the more I think Barca should toss Messi. Save the money, invest it into the future. The longer they wait the harder it will be to prevent the most epic of all downfalls. But that's me being nice. Bastard me wants the league to make an example and let Barca go bust.

Let's presume it's true. They're not relying on 1 player. They're working within their 'new' means I.e. TV deals etc. The argument is that losing him could impact that and obviously therefore money in. But no one knows how true that is until it happens so you can't budget for it.

I don't get it. Nobody's that important. They survived without Ronaldo and Neymar, they'll survive without Messi. I'd welcome a step back towards sanity in football transfers. But the point is, that they may well believe that having Messi at Barca helps them out as well financially and by digging their heels in and sticking to the rules they would be ripping their nose off to spite their face.

I don't disagree, but we are talking about the whole league at the moment and why smaller clubs should be in favour of Messi staying at Barca. So we don't have to think about Barca's marketing, but about the marketing of the league (mostly: TV deals).

And having the (potential) GOAT in the league makes it more attractive than not having anyone like him, and therefore he makes more money for everyone. That he is a bad investment for Barca might be true, but why should the other clubs care about Barca's finances? They care about their own finances when they want to bend rules for Messi.

The small clubs on their own simply don't have the fan base to generate a lot of international market revenue, they depend on the league. Maybe only Real Madrid is in a situation where they could say "feck Messi, we are big enough ourselves" and try to stick to the rules.

Seriously WTF :houllier: ?

https://www.managingmadrid.com/2021...e-la-liga-and-cvc-for-misappropriation-report
Not surprised, it probably requires them to promise not to form a Super League. No way are that firm funding La Liga all that money for Real and Barca to then form a Super League in a few years time.

This deal probably has Tebas at the heart of it. He may be making a play to shackle them to La Liga as Barca are weak and Real are having to reign in their spending atm.

Messi has never been this far away from signing a new contract at Barca. An agreement is now almost impossible.

From real madrid's perspective, the deal doesn't make much sense: an instant injection of money the club doesn't need, to be spent in ways the club doesn't need, in exchange for reduced revenue going forward

For barcelona, i guess it's more of an issue of principle, i dunno

In all honesty, this might actually be very good for the league going forward, if the money is enough and is spent smartly: better stadiums and facilities across the league could lead to serious growth for the whole product in the mid/long term. But for real madrid? Not really a good deal

Wonder why Ronaldo was never deemed so important to La Liga?? How did they let him go so easily
