Man Utd 'sign young Ronaldo'

Sporting Lisbon's U21 international Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a five-year £8m deal with Manchester United, according to Portuguese television reports.
The player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to have met United representatives on Monday.

The 18-year old played in last Wednesday's pre-season friendly to celebrate the opening of the new Alvalade XXI stadium which will feature at next year's Euro 2004 finals.

The match ended 3-1 to the Portuguese hosts.

Five Live have also just run this story...Graham Taylor (for what it's worth) rates him very highly indeed.

This kid could be brilliant. Might pick up a few pointers from Ruud along the way, to improve rapidly. He could be worked into some FA games and against some crap sides like Arsenal.

How do you clear cache? Is it not just deleting temporary internet files? I cannot see this story though I see the link on the BBC homepage.

The link is on BBC's main page, but the story isn't there. That, combined with the fact that "sign young Ronaldo" is in quotation marks, makes me pretty skeptical.

Weird. I now see the story is modified:

Sporting Lisbon's U21 international Cristiano Ronaldo has signed a five-year £8m deal with Manchester United, according to Portuguese television reports.
The player's agent, Jorge Mendes, is said to have met United representatives on Monday.

The 18-year old striker played in last Wednesday's pre-season friendly to celebrate the opening of the new Alvalade XXI stadium which will feature at next year's Euro 2004 finals.

The match ended 3-1 to the Portuguese hosts.

The news comes just hours after it was confirmed that Brazilian World Cup winner Kleberson had been granted a work permit.

Kleberson is set to become the first Brazilian to play for the Premiership champions.

He now only needs to tie up a few minor details and is set to complete his £6m move on Tuesday.

Still it's not 100 percent.
BBC only saying it's according to reports on portuguese TV, definitely good progress tho.

Dunno about portuguese tv and signing news on their own players, but in holland when news announces something about a dutch player having signed for a club it's always true...

In Israel when that happens it means the player signed a new contract with his current club ;)

I've just checked the BBC site and the story's still there.

I have more confidence in this story when they say that the source is Portuguese TV. Surely, they have really good contacts/sources within Sporting Lisbon.

From Chelsea.rivals.net

"The Ronaldo that we are talking about is not the goof-teethed pie-addict at Real Madrid but Christiano Ronaldo, a winger at Sporting de Lisboa."

Can´t see it, either. Think the German ISPs have banned those sites.

MUTV knows damn well if it's true or not. I guess they are playing the drama game.
If this is true, a big if... and a class defender being signed, then things are looking extremely bright.

Okay this is from another forum with portuguese football fans:

Ronaldo on the way to Manchester United , 5 years 12 million euros
Acording to RTP1 Ronaldo signed for 5 year, Sporting to get more than 12 million euros. But the other news media are not confirming.

12 million euros its more then 13 million dollars

Sporting – Cristiano Ronaldo a caminho do Manchester United

ASF

So only one sports channel has reported it so far. Don't get ur hopes to far up if u don't want to face another Ronaldinho type of disappointment.
