The thing is, in all the sites it's "reports in Portugal..." so it doesn't matter how many more sites it's in.

Sporting Lisbon striker Cristiano Ronaldo will be presented as a new Manchester United player this week, Portuguese TV reported on Monday evening.

RTP claimed that the youngster's agent Jorge Mendes had met with United officials and struck a deal to bring the 18-year-old to Old Trafford.

The reports say that the player could be formally presented as early as Tuesday and that he will get a five-year contract. The deal is said to be worth 12 million euros (£8.5million) to the Portuguese outfit.

Sporting Lisbon president Antonio Dias de Cunha will not confirm or deny the reports while United also declined to comment.

United and Sporting had earlier this year agreed a partnership deal. <hr></blockquote>

While this thread picks up another 5 pages of people talking about how brilliant Ronaldo is, I'll be waiting for something new to come out. ;) :p

Latest news on Reuters:

Tonight (20:00) it was confirmed that along with Premier League champions Manchester United, newly-rich Chelsea are also interested in young winger Ronaldo of Sporting Lisbon. Though the player may not fancy a move to such an incredible shithole, this will serve to hike the price up to the sort of figure you'd have paid for a medium-sized continent during the Great Depression. Sporting Chairman Julio Dojigeeza said, "We're not confirming or denying anything. But since United want him and the Scum do too, I've just slapped so many extra zeros on the price it's starting to resemble a bloody rosary, ha ha. Once these suckers get involved it's fecking payday mate, which is handy as my mistress has an expensive taste in handbags."

It is thought negotiations will now enter a period of crazed furtive gibbering on all media
before the player's agent, Morales de Serpente, announces that Ronaldo is staying on the Iberian peninsula due to his fondness for sunlight and doing feck all all day.

Peter Kenyon tonight was saying only "Christ help me I think I've done it again."

Fergie more than like tuck up in bed with a cup of cocca or a wee dram

Expect confirmation tomorrow but this looks really promising

Remember how Kewell joined the dippers it's was reported in his own country although that was screwed up sightly

Not necessarily, whie Kieran is a left winger, Ronaldo can play either right left and middle, and as pip himself said (feel free to laugh at me for believing him) "they don't know what's his best position yet"

Hopefully. It's just a thought that popped into my head. I'd hate to lose Richardson - he's one of a good crop of youngsters and the first of his batch to have a chance at the first team.

he said that as an excuse of selling veron just in case he didn't get a replacement to try to make man united fans believe that tripe like solkjaer on the right would be good enough
anyway ronaldo can play upfront

I wouldn't, he used to be a right arrogent cnut in school. Danny Byrne though, what a quality lad he used to be. Nice lad with his feet firmly on the ground. I hope he makes the grade one day. :)

CRonaldo is a lefty, he'll play on the left (if at all) with scholes moving into the middle with Keane, this frees giggs to support ruud. Scholes as good as he was oin the left sunday would be better in the middle, with CRonaldo we can duplicate Giggs role on the left.

Signing Ronaldo does not mean losing younger players like Richardson - since we have already clered enough room off our payroll by losing Becks, Veron, May and Blanc this year. It is of course not clear that Richardson has what it takes to break through - I personally think it's no more than 50/50 that he makes it at Utd. although he is clearl a premiership quality player.

Ronaldo also may not make it - he is still young and raw - but I think the odds are far higher that he does. What is esciting is that we would have 4 or 5 young attacking players all capable of playing in multiple positions in midfild and upfront - a far more fluid version of the great class of '92 may be about to emerge....

Ferguson beats Chelsea to sign the new Ronaldo
By Oliver Kay

MANCHESTER UNITED have recorded their first victory over Roman Abramovich, the billionaire owner of Chelsea, by agreeing a deal to sign Cristiano Ronaldo, the outstanding young Sporting Lisbon playmaker. The 18-year-old impressed Sir Alex Ferguson in Sporting’s victory over United in a friendly match in Lisbon last Wednesday and, despite a strong rival bid from Chelsea, he is expected to complete a £6.6 million move to Old Trafford within the next 48 hours.

Abramovich, whose spending power has kept United in the shade this summer, hoped to add Ronaldo to his everexpanding galaxy of stars and offered Sporting an attractive deal whereby Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink would move to Lisbon on loan for a season. Sources at Old Trafford, though, have indicated that United’s deal to sign Ronaldo is all but complete. He was understood to be in Manchester with his representatives last night to iron out the finer points of a five-year contract.

The deal for Ronaldo, who has yet to make his international debut, represents the first dividend from the alliance that United established with Sporting this year. They lost out to Barcelona in the bidding for Ricardo Quaresma, another Sporting prodigy, but, in the case of Ronaldo, whom Ferguson congratulated on his performance in last week’s friendly, the clubs’ relationship, added to the player’s enthusiasm for the move to Old Trafford, swung the balance decisively in their favour.

Despite making several low-key investments, for a combined outlay of £4.6 million, United have hitherto endured a difficult summer in the transfer market, missing out on Ronaldinho and Harry Kewell to Barcelona and Liverpool respectively.

The capture of Ronaldo and imminent arrival of Kleberson hint at a change of fortune, but United are unlikely to succeed in their pursuit of Jermain Defoe, the forward, who is valued at more than £10 million by West Ham United, or Carles Puyol, the Barcelona defender. Barcelona maintain that Puyol, 25, would cost about £14 million, which is approximately twice what United would deem acceptable for a defender in the final year of his contract, but he remains a more likely recruit than Hatem Trabelsi, the Ajax full back. Trabelsi is expected to play for Ajax in a Champions League qualifying match against Grazer AK tonight, thus rendering him ineligible to represent another club in European competition this season.

Kleberson, the Brazil midfield player, hopes to complete his £5.6 million move to United from Atlético Paranaense today. Despite reports to the contrary, United were still waiting last night for confirmation from the Home Office that his work permit has been granted.

Juan Sebastián Verón has revealed the background to his £15 million move from United to Chelsea last week, criticising Ferguson’s handling of the transfer. “He wasn’t sincere with me,” Verón said. “Two months ago, a couple of clubs expressed an interest and he said I wasn’t for sale. He gave me the impression I was wanted. But when there was more money on the table, his conversation changed. That’s hard for me.”

He added: “The story was running and nobody in Manchester was denying it. So I asked Ferguson: ‘Do you want me in the squad?’ He gave me a convoluted explanation about tactics in midfield, saying in a roundabout way that he’d find it difficult to play me from the start if this and that happened.

“I confronted him and said: ‘I’m not asking you if I will start every game. I’m asking if you want me in your squad.’ Then he came out with a line about Chelsea’s offer being very good, financially. I realised it was all about money.”

Yeah, Ashton on Mersey.

He was a cock. Thought he was some sort of "gangster". Infact an ex-United youngster who got dropped by United after having a fight and beating the living shit out of another student said "If I didn't play for United, I'd be a 'gangsta'". His name was Jemal Johnson, now of Blackburn and I can tell you he fecked the fattest slut at our school, he had no shame.

Oh and Kieran Richrdson got a blow job off one of the dirty Ashton on Mersey sluts under the bridge at the Brooklands metrolink station. I also heard a rumour that she got fecked, up against one of the grave stones in the Brooklands cemetry, don't know if it was by Richardson but she was loose. Hope he gets knob rott ;)
