Ronaldo being coached by Benni McCarthy must make him feel like Vidic and Rio when Moyes told them to study Phil Jagielka videos

I Always liked Benni McCarthy tbh, welcome to the club!

Exactly... Benni is cool and everything, but he was never a standout player and his technique was iffy... Maybe he had really blossomed as a coach, but his name alone doesn't fill me with confidence
Yeah I don’t why understand we don’t sign Brazilian Ronaldo, Batistuta or someone of similar standing….

We should be kept out of football?, just because our Men's National Team sucks?. C'mon man.
I'm obviously not being serious. But somewhere between having a football mad population of 60 million and a really pathetic national team lies a problem. And I think it's down to coaching. Now I hear one of our ex-players will coach United. One can hardly blame me for being apprehensive.

Interesting choice. He has experience around Europe as a player and a fairly decorated playing career.

And nice bonus that he’s a United fan too. That’s my something new I’ve learnt today.

Actually SA kinda suck at football compared to other African countries when you compare the resources available to you guys. Your women team are just about justifying the investment after playing second fiddle to super falcons for years.
That being said, I'm sure United and Ten Hag did their due diligence with Benny and am excited for him and hopefully he makes an impact and open the door for other African coaches.

The Daily Star headline is pathetic: "Man Utd hand coach job to West Ham flop who knocked them out of Champions League"

He didn’t knock us out of the Champions League either. Technically it was Costinha with a brilliant Tim Howard assist :o

He was technically good, but a lazy (and eventually overweight). It doesn’t really have much to do with whether he’s a good coach, does it? Klopp being probably the best example…

I agree. I'm just feeling apprehensive about it because of my ties with SA. Saying this - I don't know his coaching skills from shit and whoever made the appointment knows a helluva lot more than I do.

First team strikers… he’s going to be pretty lonely on the training ground

Erik doesn't wait a second longer - He sees that we have a finishing problem, right there on the spot, next day a striker's coach is being hired(I just hope its the right one)

I think people have some strange idea of what a striking coach does, it’s not like you get the best finisher available as a coach and he somehow then passes on that finishing ability to a player, it’s about being able to make technical drills (which any elite coach can do) fun and keep the routine fresh. That’s the toughest part, getting footballers to apply themselves entirely day in day out to a very repetitive and mundane task. Read Ibra’s biography of how Capello made him become a great finisher, there’s no secret to it.

Batistuta doesn’t enjoy football, he isn’t a fan of the sport despite being a godly striker.

Ronaldo doesn’t like coaching and owns Real Valladolid

Just an observation he looks quite fat now, doesn't he need to be active in trainings and yea other than his playing days what's his coach CV like, has he gotten this job on merit or another appointment because other options like RVP choose not to join!?

My first thought too, this should be interesting.

Although “the King” may have a point given their respective careers. I’m not really sure what Benni McCarthy has to teach Ronaldo.
Ronnie hold up or back to goal play is bang average, if he can stop being a dick and be open to learning maybe Benni can teach him how to hold up the play and bring others into play, Benni at his prime was elite level at that.

Remember seeing him in Hale when he was at Blackburn Rovers, couldn't believe my eyes at how fat he was.

Seemed to gain about 3 stone in a matter of months.

His CV is miles better than Van Persie. Not even close.

"McCarthy left his post as AmaZulu head coach in March after guiding the South African team to a record second position in the league. In 2020/21, he was named the South African Premier League's Coach of the Season.

The ex-forward will specialise in coaching attacking plays and positioning."
