Because we're rich and desperate and have morons conducting the negotiations on our behalf. This winds me up with selling clubs, why are we the only club to get shafted every time? They don’t do this to the likes of City who have more money than us.
That price in this market is not unreasonable. Joao Felix was picked up by Atletico for £113m from the same league. And Fernandes has better numbers in that league.right stance from Utd.
no one else is interested in the player, Sporting priced out spurs in the summer. He’s a good player, but not proven in a decent league, so we have a limit.

This was confirmed as paper talk and rubbished by HodgsonBayern loaned James from Madrid and have also tried to loan Zaha, Madrid loaned Hernandez from us a few years ago as well.
And we overpaid later for Maguire, paying 80m after refusing to pay 60m for him the previous summer so what.Oh please. Just because we overpaid for Fred means feck all. He is not worth 80m be it euros or pounds.
I am with Ed on this.
They're struggling financially and are desperate for money.Sporting isn't going to lower their price. Why would they? They are in mid season doesn't make any sense to sell their best player without a replacement, and we are desperate right now and we are a club with history of massively overpaying players.

we massively paid for Maguire. 80M for a non WC CB is ridiculous. Bruno is worth 68m euros especially since we're so light in CM. If we wanted to play this game then maybe we shouldn't have dismantled the midfield and brought no one to replace them as we did.Oh please. Just because we overpaid for Fred means feck all. And we are struggling with football and desperate for a midfielder, and we are rich and have history of overpaying massively..They're struggling financially and are desperate for money.
They’ve been trying to pawn him off since last summer. Clubs were apparently interested but not at their asking price. If they want to sell him so bad they need to be realistic.Sporting isn't going to lower their price. Why would they? They are in mid season doesn't make any sense to sell their best player without a replacement, and we are desperate right now and we are a club with history of massively overpaying players.
I doubt his value will drop any lower, his quote price is around half of what Athletic has paid for Felix, in the same league where Bruno has outperformed him. Its not like Sporting is asking for 100m or something.Because they desperately need the money now?
Because there is no certainty that he will be wanted next summer?
Because his value may drop?
They didn’t.All I would say if Spur had a bid accepted for £45m plus add ons on the summer if we were interested why didn’t we match the offer?
We needed him in the summer, we had the money yet decided to wait 4 months to negotiate. It’s poor planning which ever way you look at it.
Widely published that they did. They didn’t.
The situation is getting criticized because that what happened in Maguire deal last summer so the problem hasn't actually been solved. We'll end up overpaying for him anyway when we realize they won't accept anything less.Funny reading comments criticising the club for "not paying whatever Sporting asks". Us paying ridiculous fees and getting fleeced has been one of the main problem post SAF and exactly why we had an overrated overpaid squad. If we feel Sporting's asking price is too big and they don't accept anything lower, we should walk away.
Sounds a bit like Pogba but worse.Mata runs a lot, these days at least. He’s just slow.
He has poor ball retention, low pass completion and highish dispossessions + bad touches. He isn’t technically gifted, he’s an end product player and in the absence of that product you have a low bottom level.
Every report in Portugal denied that - quite aggressively at that. Im not even convinced Spurs were in for him at all.Widely published that they did.
Sporting are asking for a fair price considering his importance to their team and his stats and performances.Funny reading comments criticising the club for "not paying whatever Sporting asks". 65 + 15 million euro ain’t a fair price at all. Obviously our owners and CEO agree on that. Good that the club shows some strength in these situations. The level in Portugal ain’t all that. Just look at Felix - a big disappointment so far.Sporting are asking for a fair price considering his importance to their team and his stats and performances.
I thought we always overpay?Story of every transfer under Ed fecking Woodward. Can't withstand him.
Yes.Do City loan in players?
Do Chelsea loan in players?
Do Madrid loan in players?
Bayern? Barca?
@ZenMaster Coltrane genuine question.
Chelsea had Kovacic and Higuain on loan last season and once had quaresma. Bayern currently have Perisic and Coutinho on loan. PSG have icardi on loan and Real borrowed Chicha from us a few years back and before that they had AdebayorDo City loan in players?

We do overpay, but after wasting time trying to get the price at lower wages, so what's the point ? I don't get the point of this strategy if the result is always the same in one of our transfers under Woodward. Either pay what they want or if you think it's too much, simply walk away and check other targets. Wasting time trying to lower the prices and ending up paying what they want is a weird strategy.I thought we always overpay?
We need and can get both Adnan.I'd personally pass on this deal and sign Soumare from Lille as a DM. Options will open in the summer, and this particular deal with Fernandes wreaks of a panic buy imo.
Felix is what 19? Impossible to judge right now. 65m is more than fair, it’s what? Close to £50m? Considering we paid that for Fred and Bruno would actually bring us goals and assists, the most valuable thing in football.65 + 15 million euro ain’t a fair price at all.
