Can OGS be our own Zidane?

You’re asking a question that cannot be answered.
I hope he’d be better than Zidane, personally, hope he’d do better than SAF, that is all we can really do, hope and enjoy the ride.
Either way, I’m sure we’ll see good football more often than not.

Only Jah knows

Ultra popular, knows the club inside out, seems to have a good head on his shoulders.

Too early to say but can he our own zidane? Only chance for it to come true is he wins the cl and leads us to 1st or 2nd place. What chances does he have?

Optimists unite!!!
Let us believe. He has the coaching ability IMO

He won't be our ZZ until he's headbutted an opposition manager in the chest during a cup final.

So refreshing to have someone who always puts the club first in charge again unlike 'The Toxic one', who always put no. 1 first and was only here so he could pick up one final heavy severance pay off before perhaps moving to International management.

If Ole gets us into the top 4 which I'm almost certain he won't then I'd be open to giving him another chance. But if we can get Pochettino then he already has a track record showing that if you give him kids like Kane, Alli, Winks then he will mold them into stars. He also has proven he can regularly beat teams with much higher spending power. Ole doesn't really have a track record that shows he can turn kids into stars and he has yet to prove he can regularly beat teams above us in the league and in Europe.

Hopefully, he can show any progress in 6 months, if we can see the style of play he got us playing so better and giving youth a chance, getting best out from our squad, even if he didn't deliver 4 top and some trophies, I could place him in bracket same as Klopp and Poch but below tier Pep. I'd like to have him as permanent manager as long as we can progress because I don't think Poch would do better, the manager who hardly won trophies, why would we take him on if Ole prove us that he can get us play better football and winning at the same time and getting the best out of our squad?

Well if we're only hiring managers who have won trophies then why not Benitez, Mancini, Ranieri, Trapattoni, Martin O'Neill, Brendan Rodgers, Neil Lennon, Claude Puel?
Let's not forget that winning a bundesliga with Dortmund is something most managers in Germany end up doing whenever Bayern go through a transition period so you can hardly compare winning trophies there to managing Spurs, who have about 5 teams ahead of them every year when it comes to trying to win something.
Pochettino has shown he is a special manager from his last 5 or 6 seasons. Hiring a former player can give the club a lift but doesn't always work out in the long run. Just look at Tim Sherwood as Spurs. All the fans wanted him and initially there was a lift in the team before things started to go downhill

Maybe? It's been one game.

What a weird thread.
it sure is but it is understandable. After the dross from Mourinho, people were so starved of success and excitement; think about how the ball was fizzed about with purpose at cardiff and te forward movements resulting in one of the goals of the weekend scored by Martial. No-one had see that kind of footy since Sir Alex left!!!!! So yes, there is a need to be calm but at the same time let the people enjoy this breath of fresh air. I can imagine what these boards will like when the final sore reads Man Utd 10- 0 Huddersfield!

Not a chance. Zidane was a long term appointment, who was in the back room staff under Mourinho, then 2nd team manager then given a 2.5 year contract. We just called up Ole because of panic from Mourinho's horrible management/results and gave him a short contract.

Ole hasn't been given the platform to succeed. He's a PR appointment. Shuts up the fans because we've been wanting Mourinho out for months due to style/results.

I'm absolutely delighted that we've got Ole in, but I've not been suckered in by this obvious media campaign by the club about how the board have got everything under control.

Yes he can. Simple as. In just one game what I've believed for a while now seems to be correct. We need to promote from within. We dont need another form of football.

Great to see optimists uniting. I'm off to predict losses for the other clubs that will give us the path to win the league.

First targets, trailing top 4 by 4 points by January 2nd, trailing Liverpool by 13 points by January 2nd and trailing City by 8 points. We can start wanking silly when this comes to fruition. If not, I'll make up other dream scenarios.

Merry Christmas.

Ole became a part of Fergie's staff after he retired as a player. Following that he was coaching the reserves team for a couple of years. That should more or less equal Zidane's experience before named manager for Real.

In addition to that, Ole has managerial experience from a club where he failed, and from a club where he won league titles and punched above his teams weight in the Europa League.

I'm not saying he is going to succeed, but he is by no means less qualified for the position than Zidane was.

Why not? Zidane didn't have much first team managing experience, Ole has > 300 games for first team. He knows the ethos of the club inside out. That's more valuable to us than hiring someone from outside.

Like you I don't think the board have everything under control but I think by bringing in Ole and the DoF which I hope is not going to be some bullsh!te appointment. It seems as if they are learning from the mistakes of the last few years and trying to move in the right direction.

If he can play good football compete with the big clubs in the EPL and europe playing our brand of football then of course he can.

Yea that would be mental because RAWK doesn't support United and would be beyond ridiculous for them to start supporting us now.

I mean if they made a premature thread comparing their manager to a 3 time Champions League winning manager after 1 win against Cardiff.

Sorry if that wasn’t clear. Will be interesting to see some of these fans turn their back on OGS if things start to go sour.

Just wish we could enjoy the now without putting unrealistic expectations on Solskjær.

If this all happens in real life, somebody tag OGS and get me a seat at the victory parade
Like we were discussing the other day, we'd have documentaries and movies made, books written about how a manager who failed at Cardiff, came back to his home and covered a 19 point gap at the top, winning all 34 games he was in charge of.
We, believers, would be interviewed 30 years later when they make a big budget documentary on this title win of ours, and we'd be talking with tears in our eyes, about how we scored 5 past every team, and 6 past City and 8 past Pool. We'd be talking about how we demolished a PSG side with Mbappe, Cavani and Neymar and how Buffon just stood between the goalposts and applauded us. We'd be talking about how we beat RM and then Barca en route to final before we demolished Juve, leaving CR7 in tears, at Wanda Metropolitan.
Happy Ole Day Fishy! :D

Just saying, Frank Rijkaard got Sparta Rotterdam relegated before turning Barcelona into a trophy winning machine. Ole's relegation has him in good company...

Solskjaer has all the right stuff. Fans love him, successful player, plays attacking football, promotes youth, marketable. All he needs now is 1 win at a time all the way till end of season. In terms of top honors, there isn't much difference between him and Pochettino. So please don't take my Solskjaer away.

You know who we all are, but if there is a documentary made, we are going to be rich as well. Get in anant, Happy Ole Day

Simple answer. No. Because we won't allow him to be. On paper he's as if not more qualified than Pep and Zidane were before they took the job. But both our fans and board would rather sign a shiny new toy manager than promote from within the club structure as a club of our size and stature should.

I guarantee that if/when we do sign Poch, his career would take a similar trajectory to LVG. Promising in flashes, but ultimately unsuccessful.

I'm convinced the mistake we as a club made post SAF was not promoting the next manager from within. SAF had a whole structure set up so that someone new could take some time to grow into the job while the club ran on its own for a few months. And I think that was the plan with Moyes before the clueless one fired all the backroom staff for his own ego.

EDIT: spelling

Zidane has nothing to show for, yes, he won the CL. But he did take over a complete functioning squad with world class players that probably would have won the CL with no manager.

Poch is known to make the club my way or no way. This is exactly what has gone wrong 3x since Sir Alex!

Oles only experience is from Norwegian football where he has learned to build a new team each year. It's not easy to win just because it's a lower ranked league.

Hodgeson managed Viking in Norway for years without winning anything. Ole made made a winning team for the first time in over 100 years.

Put Poch in the Norwegian league and he still won't be better than number 4! You need to find a player that finds the league attracts, accepts the wages and so on. And when you lose your best players year after year it's hard but you learn to build teams!

Zidane will only accept to take over a 100% functional team with world class players that are able to manage them self!

Zinedine Zidane : Won 3 Champions League in a row + 1 La Liga
Ole Gunnar Solksjaer : Won 4-1 against Cardiff City
How dare you ignore Lingard's goal at the end? Out first match with 5 goals in the Premier League ever since Sir Alex retired. Just how dare you? :nono:

I'd personally like it if OGS was possibly moved upstairs in a role as one of our new DoF figures in the summer. I think he'd suit that role quite well. He strikes me as someone who can run things, be diplomatic and influence people within the club.

If the Cardiff game is anything to go by, then he probably knows what kind of manager Utd want.

But if he wants to pursue a managerial career outside of Utd, then that's ok with me.

If he does really well in the next 5 months, he should at least be considered for the permanent position.
