Casemiro | United Player

He’s a top player but this signing shows we haven’t learnt anything and we don’t have a strategy. We’re going to pay 60million for a 30 year old on big wages. It will be fine for now but why aren’t we finding the next Casemiro. Why aren’t we thinking long term. We constantly make these signings. Don’t get me wrong we could do with this guy and let’s hope he’s a modric who can play at the top level for the next 5/6 years but what if he isn’t? Then what?

anyone can pick Casemiro out of a crowd.. what the hell are our recruitment teams doing out there. Anyone of us could say sign this guy. we just keep buying superstars. Obvious transfers.

dont Get me wrong; he’s a top player, this post is more on the side of questioning our recruitment team. So many young and up and coming DMS have been sold this summer.. why didn’t we get one or two of them for the same price ? What are these guys doing?
We obviously have no strategy, or it is not working for many reasons, but IMO we could really use a guy like Casemiro to set some structure in our midfield.
I also don't think the idea is always to go for young players, we need to sort out our midfield, even if that is for three seasons it's good enough for a start.
I can also see why not a lot of promising young players are willing to join us at the moment, and we are more willing to pay high wages to Casemiro than could-be next Casemiro.

If we get this done tonight, is it possible Casemiro flys over tonight and has his medicals and registers tomorrow so he can go straight in against Liverpool?

Based on how slowly we have processed visa's from other foreign players, not a chance in hell

feckers

Still would be a great use of the FDJ funds so we aren't left empty handed this window after setting aside money for an elite midfielder

Changed my mind on this, if we're having to double a player's wages to convince him to help us then maybe he's exactly the kind of player we don't need. Perhaps put some kind of actual wage structure in place rather than throw cash at mercenaries. I'm not saying someone at the peak of their powers with a track record of success doesn't deserve to be paid, partcularly given this'll be his last big contact in his career, but he is already a millionaire.

I think he will be as much of a flop as Di Maria and Varane. And Sanchez. He is 30, will sot a fortune, will have a huge contract which we would struggle to offload.

I'm just wondering when our directors/managers will actually learn from past mistakes really.

I think people need to wake up and look around. The market, and football, has changed.

Chelsea are spending big on Koulibaly (31) and Aubameyang (33). Barcelona were desperate to get in Lewandowski (33). Bayern are always sensible and had no issues paying out for Mane (30).

Players are playing longer than ever before and we need quality NOW. The next Casemiro only comes to a team in the Champions League. We need real quality and we are about to sign the best defensive midfielder in Europe (don’t bother with the “he isn’t” replies. I believe he is and it’s a perfectly reasonable stance to have)

We play Scott McTominey every single game. We need THIS Casemiro, not the next one!

We're bottom of the league (I know it's 2 games in but our form last year was shocking too) and the club is on it's arse, how else are we going to attract top players if we don't throw cash at them?

That's why we got rid of rangnick. His recruitment views were in line with yours, but it doesn't suit the clubs economic ambition.

We are becoming Madrid lite? Varane, Ronaldo and now possibly Casemiro

Ya know, given where you are… Some of the players we are trying to move/not need might help you out in the short term. Asensio comes to mind. I do think you need a FdJ type, connecting midfield with the defense. United is not able to carry the ball from defense to offense. Case won’t do that either, but he will help protect the back 4.

All you fecks better thank Papa Perez, the stuff we do for you lot :nono:

Have a feeling that this will be "99% done" and then we'll get the rug pull from either RM or Casemiro. Suddenly demands for 100M transfer fee or 3X current wages instead of 2X.

This guy may be the missing piece for our team. With him, it might just click.

Because we need to solve the problem in short terms, and a "still" world class player is available now, then why not?
next Casemiro !? Who can guarantee that player can turn to the level of Casemiro in that position within a few months or within a few years?
Also, next Casemiro may not keen to join a sinking team with no CL and bottom in the league currently.
We need to find the best one in our weakness to fix in short term to carry the team in 1-2 years then to find another prospect.

You cannot hold a hand of prospect and wish them breakthrough within months, please remember that we are fighting in relegation group and we have no players suited in that position.

To be honest when you think about it, Real Madrid have always sold top performers. They’re a ruthless institution that hold no sentimentality for anyone.
Sold all those guys in this tweet.
Sold Ozil before his prime, sold Di Maria in his prime.

So maybe Casemiro sale isn’t so surprising after all

Madrid are generally decent to work with unlike another certain Spanish club.

This one doesn’t get the juices flowing.

Crazy that at some point Fabinho was twerking for us - now look at what we’re doing.

Of course, any club will take us to the cleaners. I'd question their business sense if they didn't

Its tough to make long term signings who can develop here with the team in disarray. So many of our other signings would have done better if we just had a solid base to build from. Guys like Martial and Rashford, who knows how they would've developed if they weren't forced to be the star players asap.

We missed out on Guimaraes who we should have gone for, but Casemiro in would be great for a few years, and then possibly we can go for Rice next when his contract is done at West Ham. Sometimes you need a high level stop gap, you just need to know how to transition. Cavani could have been a great stop gap for 2 years until Haaland. Instead we got Ronaldo ahead of City, went in turmoil and Haaland went to City instead. You have to follow through with the plan to make the stop gap worth it. Casemiro of course is a lot younger and in his prime still, could easily be key for 4 years. Gives Ten Hag a chance to do his thing and stop the free fall.

All we do is stop gap signings. They haven’t worked so far. Other teams sign these up and coming DMS because they are on the ball. They make these moves happen early and have a clear recruitment strategy. They want them more, offer them better terms (not just money) We don’t. A club this size. We sleep on it, then act late and act shocked when we don’t get them.

I’m not saying Casemiro isn’t great and if he comes here and sorts out this midfield then I’m all for it.. it just shows we don’t recruit properly, we don’t have a system or a strategy.

for 70million it’s a lot of money and I hope it isn’t the only business we make before the window ends because it’s not enough. You can’t keep throwing money at players and hoping it sticks.

Real Madrid just bought two very good young DMs. Brand new shiny players with 10 years in them. They have Casemiro in their team. It tells you something.

looking at Thiago silva at Chelsea does give me a little hope though, at 37. If he can have that impact on this team and that longetivy, then I guess he will be worth it. Time will tell and he’s a great player as I’ve said previously.. I just Thought maybe, with this new management all around the club, we would move differently. It’s actually been worse.

Thing is, if we want to attract best players we have to give them considerably larger salary than they would get elsewhere. The days when we were a dream destination for the players are well and truly over, now by joining us they are basically giving up on winning any trophies. If us, City, Liverpool, Real, Barca, Bayern etc. offered the same salary, there is no chance anybody would pick us. That's the reality right now.

The salty tears of Merson, Rednapp and Souness are almost dripping off their face onto mine. “Can he do it in the PL…I don’t think he can”….I can’t wait to hear this as I hold up the tissues either!!

I understand why people are concerned at throwing so much money at a 30 year old that has won it all, but this really is a necessary signing on so many levels.
  • He’s got a fantastic attitude and work rate- he won’t be coming to United to take it easy!
  • We are in desperate need of a player with Casemiro’s presence and shithousery. We have become a team of softies that teams don’t fear.
  • We’ve tried signing up and coming players and it’s not worked out. We need a couple of experienced heads to steer us in the right direction.
  • A signing of this calibre will attract a lot of interest and make our club more attractive again for the likes of De Jong.
  • He’s a winner- the more you can get the better.
  • His positional sense and reading of the game should allow him to play at a high level well into his thirties!

Yea they don't really mess around typically with long drawn out sagas, bar Mbappe's who was unprecedented. They're very efficient and don't waste other clubs time often in the market

The antithesis of Barcelona.

Can't get excited about this at all. Isn't this exactly against what Rangnick said we should be doing? Brazilians aren't necessarily known for their longevity either. Awful planning and management as usual by United.

When you say 'best' what do you mean? We've tried that, who have been our best performing signings over the last 10 years? How many of those came for huge fees and/or huge wages? It seems to me that the opposite is true. When will we learn? The amount we've thrown at non-performers we could have repaired OT and brought our training ground up to standard. Would that have been a better investment?

Yeah it’s our time to attract the worlds best players to The Project! City, pool, Chelsea all had their spell!

Surely that’s Eriksen. A wonderful playmaker. I would imagine the midfield will be Cas at 6, Eriksen at 8, and Bruno at 10.

Give the ball to Bruno and it’s coming straight back at us. We need Erikson there and another midfielder. Maybe even Fred! That’s how bad Bruno is.
