• Supporter attempted to kick the Paris Saint-Germain striker
• Bitterly disappointing’ incident condemned by Brendan Rodgers

Celtic face an anxious wait to discover the scale of an inevitable Uefa sanction after a supporter invaded the pitch and attempted to kick Kylian Mbappé during the 5-0 home loss to Paris Saint-Germain.

The fan raced from behind a goal to accost the Frenchman as Celtic prepared to kick-off following the third goal. Key to Celtic’s worry will be a series of Uefa penalties, totalling more than £160,000 for 12 offences over the past six years. The last came at the start of this season, after a paramilitary-style flag was flown when Linfield visited Celtic Park for a Champions League qualifier. There is now a serious fear at Celtic of partial stadium closure for a European fixture, a feeling intensified by the high-profile nature of Tuesday night’s incident.

The supporter was roundly booed before being escorted from the pitch. “That reaction said it all really,” said Celtic’s manager Brendan Rodgers. “It’s disappointing for any ground, any club, a supporter getting on to the pitch like that. It was bitterly disappointing and I’m sure the club will deal with that. Whoever that person was it shouldn’t be anything we see, especially on a football field. I think the stewards dealt with it at the time and I’m sure the club will deal with it. The crowd and their reaction told you everything you needed to know.”

Unai Emery, PSG’s head coach, shrugged off the suggestion of Mbappé being negatively affected. “Kylian is a very young player, but he has experience,” Emery said. “Nights like this will give him more experience. He wants to become a great player and I thought he showed a lot of confidence.”

Oh and Neymar was booed incessantly and was confronted by 18-yr old fullback Ralston at some point in the match?

That's quite ridiculous. Has any team behaved worse than that in terms of volume?

Apparently he didn't see Mbappe and was just going for the ball.

Expect this to be taken seriously. This wasn't some fat bloke wanting to get his knob on TV for a bet, someone came on the pitch with the intention of attacking a player on the field. Okay this time he only wanted to boot him up the arse but who knows next time. Having to play a match behind closed doors wouldn't be an unsuitable punishment.

That player was a fecking idiot. Unnecessary anger throughout the whole match, kept making ridiculous fouls after ridiculous fouls. The worst thing is that the crowd loved it each time. Like cheering him for committing a FK against Neymar :houllier: and then they wonder why Scottish football is shit.

Imagine how much of a sad life you must lead if you feel an urge to run onto the pitch to try to kick somebody who's earning more in a week than you'll in your life.

Putting it like that makes me want to kick him now too.

Re the Neymar stuff; he's had a pretty tricky relationship with Scotland since the 2011 Brazil match when he accused the supporters of being racist for booing him and throwing a banana on to the pitch. He was actually booed because he kept feigning injury and the banana was thrown by a German supporter in the Brazil fan section, so he was talking shite and had insulted an entire country with his off the cuff remarks.

A Scottish supporters club demanded an apology off of him, which shouldn't have asked for in the first place, but Neymar made things worse by saying that he had nothing to apologise for since he hadn't actually accused anyone of anything. Technically he hadn't accused the Scottish fans, but we're a defensive and precious bunch who refuse to let go of anything.

His remarks at the time after the match were "The entire stadium was jeering. This atmosphere of racism is totally sad."

Surely Celtic will have to play behind closed doors.

Nothing particularly bad about this. All things considered.

Few behind closed doors matches for them for the fan going after Mbappe and a large fine.

Well that's because Neymar is a cnut.

I think the first one was after Neymar had just been booked for diving and was gobbing off to him.

And that idiot Ralston was saying after the match he was just doing his job and he doesn't fear the likes of Neymar and he was prepared for Neymar same way as any normal game. I was angry when he said "I did exactly the same routine (as any normal match but stupid enough to realize this is not a normal match). It's just another man on the pitch you are playing against. I don't put him on a pedestal. You just deal with it". No wonder Scottish football is only good in Scotland. This was a team that went unbeaten in the league and they get to the UCL and think players are the same as the farmers they play against every week. You were kicking Neymar all day but hey you don't put him on a pedestal....Dude you just freaking did. You laugh in his face and you want a handshake and his shirt. The snub wasn't enough, deserved a punch in the face. What a clueless lad! Neymar costs more than the Scottish league. If you can't respect his talent which made you a laughing stock of a defender after shipping five goals, then respect his worth cause you'll never made that in 2 lifetimes.

Celtic's previous with UEFA and the nature of this latest offence will almost surely result in a game or two behind closed doors. If it doesn't, and they get away with a fine and/or "suspended sentence", they will be very fortunate.
