Ronaldo doesn't press, but he makes plenty of runs when his team in his possession.

Messi just strolls about everywhere now. He's become frustrating to watch.
Ronaldo is the highest player on the field at any given time which means he has less distance to sprint at any given time. Messi (check the heatmaps) is often around centre of the field, so, any sprint towards the box would have to cover around half the field or slightly less, whereas, Ronaldo is positioned as a striker in shorter distance to goal. That is a consideration worth keeping in mind. Not all starting field positions are equal, or indeed advantageous.

You notice it more because Messi is central to the screen at all times. Ronaldo is higher up and often in the peripheral of the screen. You're less likely to notice inactivity if it isn't central to your vision and central to where most of the ball is.
While they're both strollers, Ronaldo at least attempt to work and make himself available when we gain possession. Messi doesn't grant you even that much, he still strolls when his teams wins the ball and doesn't even try to move into spaces to make himself available.

Deepthroating information to Howard Nurse.
I keep saying it but City’s level of control of a game, the way they control space and suffocate teams is just incredible never letting teams get out sustaining attack after attack. In saying that PSG have had the best chance

If Sporting win this they're confirmed through to the next round yes? Not what I would have guessed seeing that group, their manager is really as good as the reviews?

Exactly. Messi is strolling like he is having a walk in the park, mbappe doesn't press and neymar is trying but mediocre at it. There midfield of Herrera isn't good at retaining the ball either. Verratti in there will make a hug difference. As I stated, this is an unbalanced team filled with top individuals players.
You reckon he’d get more of a tune/be less frustrated with the United squad?

I don't think it's just a case that Messi, Mbappe and Neymar don't press, they actually don't do anything out of possession at all. If you're not going to press, at least funnel back and help your full backs.

The three midfielders and the back 4 for PSG have been immense. Defensively, Herrera, Marquinhos and Kimpembe have been superb.

When PSG have the ball, they look neat and tidy, and you feel they can break and score. But if you're carrying 3 players out of possession, City are the team that will just grind you down.

Even in possession, Ronaldo outs in far more a shift.
Messi is the laziest footballer on the planet.

They need to win by two goals, if the score remains the same they are through.

Dortmund have been poor in this group, injuries have played a huge part as they've missed Haaland for the last month and a lot of other attackers. Also losing Sancho and replacing him with a very average Malen, who has been poor this season.

What is with Man City’s incessant need to constantly play Oasis songs during their games.
We get it. The Gallaghers support city.

Yh it's more about mobility and work rate. PSG front three are almost like a separate team to the midfield and defence behind them.

It is hard to believe that Messi works harder than Ronaldo.

Messi was walking like a toddler in the middle of adults playing football around him in the park.

It also looks like City is playing United without errors from the defenders to concede silly goals early.
Yeah. Messi prefers to drop deep to get more involved, so he gets more touches, and so like Dani Alves interview suggested. However, he's not urgent and alert between turn of possession. Ronaldo very active with all kind of off ball movement once his teams gain possession. You feel like Messi was too used to Barcelona where he could take his time to get into position as Barcelona usually can progress the ball upfield on their own pace. Now he's off the pace with PSG's need to play on counter. Of course with his quality, he can impact the game at any moment

So, who covers more distance?
I'm sure the info is sourced somewhere. Worth checking out. Keeping in mind that sprints of short areas although more intense, might cover less area of the field than Messi carrying the ball and moving into space from the half-way line. That's the issue with distance covered. It accounts for distance but not necessarily intensity. Ronaldo might well run shorter distances and with more intensity and Messi longer distances but with less intensity.

1 goal is enough as well looking at the gd. Ajax really did a number on BVB.

Yeah. Also when they go for a risky penetrating pass their surrounding players are totally alive to possibility of losing the ball for half a second, ready to close in and immediately get it back like vultures.

That’s why you have the front 3 I guess, City must feel hard done by with all their chances and no luck then a deflection turns it into Mbappe’s path with really their only good chance.
