Still no idea why Chelsea are releasing a statement on the matter?

If nobody complains about shitty behaviour,
shitty people behave like shit and think it's fine.

There's the added nuance to this where a lot of people seem to think this particular chant is acceptable. Calling it out needs to be done.

I think the posts on here I report the most are homophobic slurs/comments, I did one today in fact. Yes that's right people, I will snitch with no hesitation.

Will see what United have to say tomorrow.

Seeing as your manager deflected away from the question about the homophobic chanting I wouldn't expect any statement from the club either. At this point any club statement would probably just lead to some awkward questions for Ten Hag to answer in his next presser.

As for why Chelsea released the statement it's probably because otherwise the the matter would just be swept under the carpet like it always has been in the past. The same chant has been sung for years and years but nothing ever happens. If the club keep condemning it with a statement every time it happens then maybe they're hoping at some point people will learn it's not okay?

Yeah but the idea is to improve, not move sideways. You can keep your problem players to yourselves :wenger:
To be fair there’s a chance you could be looking to buy him for 20m now, let him stay at United then officially sign him July 1 going by your weird moves recently

United's hopes of top 4 rely on a couple of the contenders being under-par so I'm pretty encouraged by what I saw today.

Chelsea as the home team should be taking the game to us but the best they could manage was a boring stalemate with barely a chance created.

I'm sure they'll probably be saying the same about United to be fair, but we were the away side.

Clubs ban opposition fans for acts like this. This year there have been more public announcements of fans being banned for behavior reported and then verified on video. Perhaps in the past it has been done privately, but this administration is looking to make it very public to change the few or get rid of them. I am sure all clubs do it, maybe not so publicly.

I think the booing was a case of fans thinking he was making more of it than it was, and of course, they really ratchet the booing up for Man United, Arsenal, and Liverpool games. I hope he recovers, seems like a nice guy.

Why what was Ten Hag asked and what did he say? I’m sure he’ll continue to be asked about Ronaldo ahead of everything else regardless to be honest!

Yes it’s great to see Chelsea leading the way especially given the horrendous reputation of its fan base in terms of racism .

Only played two games against the big 6, both at home and only 2 points collected. United have now played all the big 6 and wont do again util the halfway point and the second lot of fixtures commence.

I would say as things stand the top 4 (in no order so ill do alphabetically as im not doing a position prediction). Arsenal, Man City, Man United, Tottenham.

The more I see the more I think its Chelsea and Liverpool who will miss out.

Spurs have been the most unconvincing team in the top 6. Very overrated team. They won’t make top 4, unless other teams truly shit the bed.

Exactly for a start they should have lost to us. Their ridiculously undeserved 96 min equalizer, they lost to United and Arsenal and have scraped wins together without playing well at all. They are totally reliant on 2 players and if they get injured they are truly screwed.

This I agree with. They got absolutely battered at Stamford bridge. Having watched most of their games I’m still baffled how they are in 3rd place. Although I just don’t see that lasting. Especially with a couple more big games coming up for them in which they’ll have the customary disappearance act.

After the Kovacic change there wasn't much between the two teams. He helped get them up the pitch and stop it from becoming a procession for us as it was against Spurs. We still had the better moments in the game but we didn't do enough to win the game.

Yeah then took off shirt and shorts at end of the game for some reason

Even halfway decent goal scorers for either team and it’s not a draw … one way or the other. Even without James there balls basically set on Aubas toes 4 feet from goal.

And you guys had some beautiful open lanes and combinations. Kepa is t playing THAT well, it is just poor.

The big difference is we know that’s our next point of reconstruction. We are already pre buying Nkunku, and working other deals. You guys spent big on Anthony and Sancho and you are embryonically attached to Rashford for and others, and The Glazers take an ice age to move on from players.

We could have more than one addition in January; would not surprise me. I think a decision on Havertz and Ziyech coming sooner than later. If we are healthy, make the tweaks in midfield we are talking about, and follow through with our front line changeover …. I can see us being downright good by next season.

With United ….Very much will depend on the rate of change the Glazers are willing to back. That means taking losses on outgoings, not just buying a player here or there.

Which Im actually hoping for by the way. I hate Arsenal and Spuds. The league is better when United are good.
Wow, you are so delusional about your team. One way or an other ? Are you kidding ? Chelsea had no chance all game. The ball you are talking about was very difficult to control.
Wishful thinking all the way down.

I only believe what I see and you were no good this game or this season. You are no mugs either. But after all the spending this summer with no impact I won’t rave about Nkunku as the guy will be a game changer.

From the Athletic article:

And when Ten Hag was asked about the chants directed from his club’s fans, he said: “It doesn’t belong in the stands, I mean the whole stadium.

“I think when Rapha Varane came (off) it was the same on the other side with the Chelsea fans, so don’t do it.”

I would say homophobic chanting and booing an opposition player are not the same thing at all and Ten Hag is doing the matter no favors by belittling it with a comparison like that.

Of course I agree that booing an injured player who's obviously devastated by whatever happened to him is very much in bad taste by anyone from our lot who did it but I also think in this day and age any discrimination of the minorities, be it sexual or racial, is a whole lot worse and should be taken seriously. So far I don't think any opposing club has ever released a statement condemning the rent boy chants from their owns fans which is pretty telling and just shows it's quietly 'accepted' and just treated as 'banter'. Like Potter said about it, clearly there is a lot of work to do.

I’m going to say it right here. These are Chelsea match going fans. If Varane was not coloured, there is no way he gets booed and abused for the heinous crime of getting injured. We all know this, but no one wants to say it. Homophobia is awful, and so is racism. Respect is the way to go.

Not all Chelsea match going fans of course, but a lot. More so than EVERY other Premier League club.

Loved getting the last minute equaliser last night. That was for Varane.

I hadn’t thought of that but it’s possible given the history of the fanbase.

You undermine your own ludicrous allegation by using an offensive racist term. The irony in referring to a black person as someone ‘coloured’ before stupidly labelling a fanbase as racist.

This is possibly the worst post I’ve read on this forum. Well done.

So the tweet was a bit misleading? Why can’t Ten Hag also point out what happened to his player as long as condemning mundane, homophobic chants that’s aren’t aimed at anybody?
Both can be shit

He can.

It doesn't help get rid of the homophobic shit though. If he'd said "yeah, I wish our fans wouldn't chant homophobic crap" it might help. "But they also did something shit" doesn't help anyone.

As I said, Hag was answering off the cuff and in a language he's not fluent in, I don't think he did anything wrong but his answer wasn't particularly helpful.

The one that finished 10th a few years back. They were much worse.

We're 4th and top of our Champions league group. Unbeaten in 8 and only a few hours ago were a minute away from beating the mighty Manchester United.
I’ve noticed that your masks slips from time to time. What I mean by that is, you seem to like to think you’re a friendly opposition fan when in reality you’re just as tribal as the rest of your brethren. I don’t understand how you received the tagline under your username but maybe you as a fan changed over time?

I’m sure you’re a nice person, I’m not criticising you as an individual but as a rival fan.

This place is populated with many Chelsea, Liverpool, Arsenal etc fans which I like and it’s why I eventually joined up. It’s a good place to get all of my football news in one place.

But you log into a Manchester Utd fan’s website, on a frequent basis, to passive aggressively mock Man Utd, or at least attempt to.

I don’t get rival fans spending all of their free time here but each to their own of course.

But the tweet made out out as if he was defending Utd fans with whataboutism when it wasn’t really the case. I don’t think it was that bad.
Plus it’s a shit chant anyway. I don’t think highlighting it helps since rival fans will now go out of their way to chant it There were still Utd fans chanting Lukakus despite being told by the player himself to stop. It’s as if everybody loses their common sense when they go into a football stadium

That tweet was dumb, for sure.

Highlighting homophobia has to happen though otherwise it just carries on. Believe it or not I still have to report homophobic stuff here, if I ignored it than it would carry on.

And the Lukaku chants did stop eventually, despite football fans being famously contrary.

Dear oh dear oh dear.

The booing had nothing to do with the colour of Varanes skin if you didn’t notice it was in response to his reaction to the St Johns volunteers who had been called on to stretcher him off.

I sadly have come across racists yes at Chelsea but also at other grounds both in the UK and in Europe they lob comments that insult, make gestures that insult etc. Are you suggesting that there are different types of boos? Yes racists and bigots boo but from what I have witnessed it’s when the ball is in play don’t try and see something that wasn’t there in that incident

I sit in the West Stand Lower and to be perfectly honest it’s the quietest area within the ground indeed the first three or so rows are allocated to disabled supporters and their assistants many rows from there back aren’t season ticket holders in the day the “ banter” as some would call it was horrendous of that there was no doubt but it went on just as the Rent Boy term has but times change and just as racism can’t be ignored so must the sort of chants that some think has another meaning to the reality

@duffer is a little wind up merchant but harmless enough. I think he was initially less like this, hence the tag, but has become a bit more cheeky in recent times whilst United have struggled.

Just give it him back

You are aware you were outspent by us by a mere £600,000 total right? You make it sound dramatic. We spent too much though, I won’t argue with that. As for our team I’d argue an attacking midfielder and a focal point would have us competing for the top 2 positions again, a Fabregas/Costa would thrive in our team, we are impotent and struggle to assert ourselves in the final 3rd.

For what it’s worth, I believe Chelsea will continue to sign up and coming players with a view to a long term strategy. They’ll probably go in for Gvardiol again and we have possibly already signed Nkunku (who knows). It’ll be a few years before we see major improvements in my honest opinion.
Lets hope Nkunku is the man!

Conveniently gets forgotten doesnt it.... thats a woeful post from him to be fair, making it about ethnicity

How sheet is Sterling, really? On the evidence of yesterday, he’s worse than Rashford who appears on an improvement upswing.

Im not trying to troll here, but on yesterdays evidence, Sancho is pretty shit, too.

Certainly not any better than Werner. Transfer strategy was scatter gun which you'd expect given our ownership change and all the top people changing.

Sterling is better than Werner. Given the option of either/or, id go Sterling

I think Chelsea have an attacker problem where every attacker seems to fall levels below their talent. Potter can change that but he had the same type of problem at Brighton

Great discussion! Deflect from a comment about a Chelsea player rather than give an opinion.
well saying i think Sancho is shit too, is an opinion! How surprising to see you in the Chelsea thread though, really rare occurrence!

Yeah it’s a United forum and I’m a United fan posting after the game against Chelsea. Doesn’t seem that surprising really

Anyway as usual you turn any negative comment about Chelsea into childish tit for tat. How Sterling is performing is literally nothing to do with Sancho, who all United fans are saying needs to be doing more than he currently is.

Fortunately Sancho is only 22 so has plenty of time on his side. Working with Ten Hag and his staff should also really help him.

As I say though. Nothing to do with Sterling or Chelsea.

Anyway, yeh Sterling has underperformed, but he is still the better of the 2, IMO of course.

I agree Sancho was disappointing
Yeh i thought Eriksen was decent and Martinez. Antony looks sharp but seemed a bit showboaty. And Dalot looked good. I just think Sancho has been poor for a period of time now. Never rated McTominay either

This is the Chelsea thread, no? And criticism towards a Utd fan when you’re a Chelsea fan on a Manchester United supporter’s fan forum is hilarious.

They are about equally bad at finishing but for our team Werner gave us far more balance and it was a mistake to let him leave. Of course he was one of the most frustrating players to ever wear the shirt but his off the ball movement gave us more scoring opportunities. Sterling on the other hand needs the space and doesn’t do enough to create it for himself or others. Once he left the starting 11 we really struggled to create clear chances and still do. I’d rather miss 5 sitters a game than create nothing and rely on all 10 players to contribute goals. That’s not a consistent way to play and our results under Tommy showed that.
