There is no link between defense and midfield in the center of the pitch. Everything is going wide.
He's going there to get the ball but at first he was in between the lines in the middle. This is something Ole can fix easily. Basically, look up, always remember where the front 3 is, Bruno is always in the middle for you, find him.

Thought Bailey done well considering he has not played in almost a year, did not know what to expect from him but looks a better partner than Lindelof to Maguire. Martial has been awful, but an absolutely brilliant header after taking abiut christiansan and weakening him. Typical of Tony, inconsistent. Special mention to AWB, brilliant cross although he looks like a deer dancing on ice. Thought Bruno was good, always looking to go forward making space and some great touches. A shame no one else is on his level. Matic has had a average game so far, Fred looks rusty in patches but continues to drive forward. Completely forgot James was on the pitch, Shaw and Williams have been okay.

I have been unimpressed by Fernandes so far. Hopefully he actually does something in the second half.
Look harder. He has been very impressive with his composure and passing. Just not seen enough of him.

So far, de Gea, Bailly, Bissaka, Fred and Bruno were good. Rest were average or worse, with James and Matic especially bad.

Martial will always tuck in goals when the opportunity presents itself but his overall play and attitude is one of the reasons our team was in 9th place at the start of the game. He is too concerned about looking cool than trying 100% and making mistakes.
I think the main reason for the 9th place is that someone like James is playing a lot. He is a 9th placed team player at best. Martial has enough quality and talent to play for a high placed team.. he just isnt good to do it by himself.

I’m watching James trying to dribble and wandering we’re he will magically develop in that area. I just don’t see him having a role here in the long run. He literally cannot do anything in tight spaces. Just kick and run.
Going forward, he should be a squad player. Someone to put on when we're hitting teams on the counter. He's a run onto the ball type of player, rather than a running with the ball player.

His movement in the box is very poor. His finishing in the box is good.

The header was an example of brilliant movement from him, to be fair.
Disagree. His movement in the box is fine; certainly not "very poor". It's outside the box is the trouble. He's not very good at holding the ball up, but in the box he's good.

Son was red carded for an incident less worse than what Maguire did
If we're clutching at straws, Son's leg was already on Rudiger, certainly no way he could claim it was an accident as he was literally touching him with the same leg as he kicked out.

Like I said, clutching at straws but that is the small difference I see. Both should be reds though, we got lucky.

Good goal by Martial but he's been pretty awful tonight as has most of the team. That goal was a thing of beauty in a very ugly game

Expect a retrospective ban for Maguire. Would be fair tbf and he can't complain.
Can they even do that now?

I mean, it clearly should have been a red. But given that VAR looked at it, on what grounds could they retrospectively change the decision?

Bailey is a fecking enigma. Generally he’s been terrible for most that first half bar one tackle and then another moment where he looks like he’s the greatest defender that has ever lived.

Running after everything and just ruining our shape by getting pulled all over the shop.
I think that’s Ole’s instructions for him to act as a DM at times. I’m nervous everytime he has the ball in our box

Michy misses a sitter and another decent chance, we need to defend better second half

Daniel James is just Lingard reincarnated, a couple of bangers early on and then feck all since.
Difference is James is still young enough to learn, he shouldn't be a leading player he should be learning in and around the team.

    Lingard is nearing 30.

Daniel James is a step below what we need. I want to really like the boy too but it gets more difficult game by game.
He's been useless for months. He doesn't even use his pace anymore. He has the ability to beat players but he seems to be scared to try anything now. Defensively he also seems scared to make a tackle.

Needs to come off for Ighalo.

No one is writing him off but he has done about nothing today. He should do a lot more that's we're just thinking.
His movement in the middle is quite good, nobody is passing the ball into the areas he is at... everytime he has got the ball he has had to drop deep which nullifies him.

Fred has been the standout player. He was good already two months ago, but he just keeps getting better. What an engine.

Fernandes, Maguire, Williams and Shaw have also been very good. Bailly played well after a shaky start. Martial gave me headache until he scored. Great assist by Bissaka; he´s had a couple lately. Matic did not have a good first half. James is too lightweight and may not make it at United.

Bruno looks like he could be a pretty tidy player when we sort ourselves out.
The defence and Matic are looking a bit ropey at times.

Martial being Martial - one min woefully losing the ball or looking bereft of any effort, and then a sheer class moment!

James is 22, he isn't even that young for how far back he is in his development
