Fun football match. Two woefully unorganised sides, scared of defending fast transitions but doing everything in their power to play with loads of risk.

Another half of that would be great.

None of this in any way supporting of us as a football team.

This man to man set-up in midfield is mind-boggling. Mainoo is so high up. In fairness, he has had some real nice moments in their final third, but we need some extra bodies in MF.

Nah, look at him when he’s trying to run off the ball. He’s got a really awkward gait. He’s not capable of running that fast, and he’s always badly exposed by anyone with pace who he’s not able to slide tackle. He’s been like that all his career.
He jogs back all the time, hardly ever sprints.

Don’t squander the lifeline we’ve been given.
If ETH doesn’t change a few things around at half time, to freshen things up and strengthen our midfield, we are going to fade away again and we’ll be overrun.
We saw that at the end of the half in injury time. Chelsea able to swarm forward in numbers when we lose the ball and Utd players struggling to get back.

    Hope, We Lose
Both teams suffering from the same issue, a lack of organization, teamwork and work ethic to run back towards your own goal and do the dirty work of keeping tabs on your opposite number. We fell behind because Dalot won the ball off Cole but the ball rebounded and he lost it, then our midfielders and Garnacho hadnt bothered tracking down the wing so Chelsea were completely free down the side and pick out Gallagher. 2nd from what I've seen there was no contact on the penalty, maybe from another replay I'll see why it was given but so far not a pen for me.

Then Chelsea do the same thing. For our first goal back its poor concentration from Caicedo giving the ball away with a poor pass. But then its the same for our second, the fullback has 2 players Garnacho and Dalot on his wing so Dalot can cross with no pressure and on the other side we have 2 players for him to pick up at the back post where nobody is helping the fullback on that side.

The one person in the middle who absolutely is doing all of his own dirty work and plenty of the rest of the teams' is Gallagher. Constantly winning the ball on the floor and in the air

Varane coming off injured again. We took him off last game "as a precaution" and now he cant seem to run so hes certainly injured

If I was ETH. I’d be telling them to keep the shape and keep hold of the ball much better. Pass it around, be patient. Dont allow them to counter us

Mainoo was playing his worst game for the 1st time, but I feel he's conserving his energy a bit. Should be able to perform better in the 2nd half.

We play the same dumb as feck midfield set up no matter who plays, it is rather irritating, Mainoo tonight is in the McT role of chasing second balls and barely touching it in comparison to his midfield partners. Cas/Bruno 28 completed passes, Mainoo 15.

Our midfield shape just continues to baffle. Sticks a barely able to move Cas deep with Mainoo and Bruno pushing on, as ever this shape leads to absurdly easy counters.

Antony has been pretty good, some nice moments of interplay, both teams are horribly fragile.

    Winnable game for all that.
You say that as if they’re both playing behind the striker. Their positioning and alertness has been horrendous but it’s been that way all season and at some point even if it’s something that basic that most midfielders are asked to, the manager has to either use a defensive double pivot which or pull them off. The position they’re instructed to take up oon the pitch should not prevent them from being in positions to defend.

Kind of a game you'd expect from 2 poor sides, but it's fun. Happy with the result after being 2-0 down.

Would bring McTominay on at some point, Chelsea are struggling defensively and he scored vs them last time, could be dangerous again.

Our setup is definitely a problem, always seems like there's a big gap between defense and midfield and that teams have loads of free space to counter.

Mainoo's been poor as well. Well done to Antony, great after being at fault for penalty.

Casemiro should be off at half time. So annoying that he's been making basic mistakes for months.

I wouldn't be against a Mount-Mainoo-Bruno midfield for the rest of the game, if Mason is ready.

Well, we need a faster back line to push up and compress the midfield space - our CBs are too slow to play high

But yes, a younger, more athletic CDM would defo help

What did Enzo do to Mainoo? If it was Casemiro it would’ve been shown again, checked etc
Hasn’t been replayed, nor mentioned at half time. Casemiro would’ve been handed his orange jumpsuit and a one way ticket to Guantanamo by now
