Nice signing and a no-brainer on a free

It's encouraging that Ten Hag is targeting players of a certain style rather than the past approach of just "the best available"

Welcome to United Christian! Good to add some extra creativity. Interesting to see where he fits in the squad. I still have a sneaking suspicion ETH sees him as the cm to play alongside FDJ despite many being understandably sceptical about how defensively solid that midfield would be. Regardless of his role, the extra quality he'll bring is welcome
I have a feeling you might be right about him being the partner for De Jong. Intrigued to see how it will work.

3 year deal?
I suppose the logic could be that if we plan to sell him after a year or two, we get some money, rather than continually losing players for feck all.

Doesn’t Eriksen literally mean son of Erik? Like how Larsson etc mean son of Lars?
Yes. It's just that we generally use the suffix with an 'e' in Denmark, whereas the other Nordic countries generally uses 'o'.

I mean, yeah, good signing and all. I like the player. He will do a job for a couple of seasons

I'm just finding it really hard to get excited, as I watch the teams in and around us in the league strengthening, and we're signing 30 year old's on a free. In fact, it makes me angry - when it really shouldn't. I also feel the same about Malacia, for what it's worth.
If we don't sign FdJ then I'll definitely be annoyed, but on the assumption that we get it done... Then there's a lot to look forward to. FdJ would be the #2 signing of the summer (after cyborg haaland unfortunately) and transform us and help ETH implement his style more quickly with a dream option at the heart of it, and all the others will click into place a lot more easily.

Martial/Rashford
Sancho Eriksen Bruno
Frenkie McTom
Shaw Martinez Varane Dalot
DDG
That's a team very comfortable in possession that is also balanced out of it. Malacia eventually to take over from Shaw too I'm sure. Concern is the RW/striker position, but if we can get Martial back to 19/20 level than it's fine IMO, and there's a few options with what to do (Sancho right, Rashford if he finds form on the left, Bruno false 9, etc). There's potential, but ideally we'll just sign an attacker as well to replace Ronaldo.

Think it's a brilliant signing. He's a top player whose can press and is intelligent and technically sound with the ball.

Eriksen, Malacia, De Jong and Martinez will have a dramatic effect on the teams capability in possession, particularly with regards to building out the back. If Ronaldo leaves it will have some benefits too, we would become more fluid, although we definitely need a goalscorer.

Every time I'd see him step up to a free outside the box as an opposition player against Utd or Ireland I'd always get a pit in my stomach. So happy that opposing fans will have to endure that now.

Aside from the obvious attraction in terms of the salary we most likely has offered, I think this is a case of a player wanting to be able to say, that he has played for Manchester United.

The history, the greatness and everything that goes with it. The club is huge in Denmark - certainly for his generation (my own aswell as I'm the same age). We grew up in a world where United were the biggest club in the world, and had the best keeper and a fellow Dane in goal.

He will be thrilled to play here.

This is correct, although Christian's dad isn't named Erik - in this case, the surname was originally as you said but has turned into a "normal" surname by Western standards which is simply the same surname as your parent(s). Christian is the son of Thomas and Dorte Eriksen.

Didn't like him when he played for Spurs, felt sorry for him with his heart problems and now glad to have him at United.

An objectively good signing, very pleased with this.

I like this one, but you guys are not getting both MArtinez and Antony,. It will be one or the other I think.

Can Bruno play as a false 9? Wouldn't mind Rashford there and maybe Bruno on the right wing, but that would require a very good and offensive RB.

Bruno is not a false 9, it negates one of his best attributes - his passing.

It's not a bad team but being blinkered by new signings, a lot of weaknesses
- No DM
- No striker
- Antony is unconvincing to me personally
- That defence will leak goals

I’ve been racking my brain trying to make sense of being in for both Eriksson and De Jong when we already a shed load of 10s and 8s but no 6s….

it makes me think ETH is gonna try something very different with Eriksson. Especially with our Lisandro interest.

3 at the back with Eriksson in the Pirlo/Scholes role…

something like:

De Gea
Varane, Maguire, Lisandro
Laird, De Jong, Eriksson, Bruno, Shaw
2 up top…

or 343 variation with Eriksson further forward perhaps:

De Gea
Varane Maguire Lissandro
Laird, De Jong, Fred, Shaw
Bruno/Eriksson, Sancho
ST

whichever was I cut it though, I just can’t square our targets with ETHs preferred 4231 or 433 systems.

Weird…..

I must admit I'm indifferent to this move - but we need to beef up the squad and we need some experience to fill the gaps.

In the absence of a really good centre forward, I do think Eriksen is a luxury in the current set up. But despite all that, I completely understand why Ten Hag would want him.

Absolutely delighted with this signing! Been a big fan of his and always wanted us to sign him while he was at Spurs. Also, after everything that has happened to him it is a great comeback story, and I hope that both him and us under the guidance of Ten Hag can get back to the top where we belong!

Also he is a free signing!

Take it easy. We have only spent a small fraction of our budget on a CM who would greatly improve our midfield passing, and a young talented LB who would be immediate improvement from Telles. There are more to come.
