Conte | Spurs Manager

Whether he's done very well depends on whether they finish top 4 or not because if they don't then the 'turn around' is hardly as spectacular as you're suggesting
And they wouldn’t be anywhere near top 4 if it wasn’t for Conte.

I still don't think he's pulled up any trees, and whoever sneaks into that last top 4 spot between them and Arsenal will have just about managed to be a little bit less shit than everyone else in the race rather than it being an especially huge achievement.

However, if they keep him and Kane and add a couple of wingbacks that aren't cack, they could easily get to at least Chelsea's level next year and they will likely be a tough team to get past depending on how our rebuild goes.

I disagree he has completely turned around our entire season and the level we are playing at now is light years above what we were doing before he came. He is doing a fantastic job.

Agreed, getting 70+ points with this Spurs side would be amazing.

Yes but their defense under Nuno was leaking goals. And Nuno was supposed to be a specialist in defense. It is amazing that Spurs have a good defense now. It is a testament to Conte's abilities. He took a team with minus nine goals in goal difference, and now they are +23.

Look at the goal differences for the top 10 teams in PL. It is revealing.

Never any rumours about teams in for Son, Kane had a few last season and he is fantastic player but I think strange that there is never about Son, is it agents I wonder or something else,

He’s done brilliant really, did anyone think Spurs were anywhere near CL football after Nuno? They were dead and buried.

Spurs were up and down but still won plenty of games start of the season.

This was the table after Nuno got sacked:

Tottenham Hotspur 0-3 Manchester United: Cristiano Ronaldo scores and assists to ease pressure on Ole Gunnar Solskjaer - BBC Sport

Grand total of two points off 4th.

Think the key was Kane getting invested in things again as he was like a ghost up to December.

No surprise with him and Son in top form they're looking a very decent team again.

Think he's happy at Spurs level club rather than being rotation player at a CL contender.

With his profile though you'd think some of Real Madrid, Bayern Munich, PSG and even Man. City would've all looked at him at some point over last two years.

You mean they were in 8th on -7 goal difference and playing shocking with what looked like a disorganised and demotivated squad.

You were in worse state when sacking OGS and still been in the mix for top 4 up to two weeks ago.

I'm a huge fan of Conte but thinking it's stretching it a bit to say this is some sort of miracle result. Spurs do have some very good players after all who'd get in Man. United and Arsenal teams (not just the front two).

Interested what they do next season given Chelsea will likely be weaker in depth.

Well I think it’s mostly because of Conte, he’s a serial winner and no surprise Tottenham are where they are now.

I think if he took over United we’d have been in the same position but that’s for the birds.

West Ham won the next day so it was actually five points.

We may not have been that far off points wise but every metric suggested that we were very fortunate to have amassed the number of points we did, the performances were shocking.

With the form he's showing, he wouldn't be a rotation player, he'd be fantastic signing for any team especially Liverpool which I hate to admit

He is good manager, but at this time we need something else.
I hope baldy is that guy.

Very happy Utd managed to sign Ten Hag. Though still convinced had we signed Conte when he was available, he’d have somehow motivated this shite excuse of a squad and Utd would be comfortable top 4.

Folks, just give up… You’ve got your high-risk (for sure), high-reward (uhm… maybe…) new shiny manager in Ten Hag, now let a world class coach who was showcasing his talents for you do his job. And Arsenal will lose points again in Newcastle next weekend, mark my words.

Don't really understand the squirting here any time he wins a game.

Odd response. I'm pretty sure most people in here would rather Spurs get the CL spot than see the media fellating of Arteta go into overdrive, and outside of one or two, we're pretty damn happy with the choice of our new manager.

No one at the start of the season thought Spurs will end up finishing top 4 after Nuno's results.

After 10 games the points gap is usually not the big between teams. The table starts to become clearer near the end of December, but Spurs were in shocking form, coming off from a shit previous season. Who would predict them to end the season close to 4th ?

Yeah but Spurs have too many bang average players around them. Much like the Redknapp era where you had Modric, VDV and Bale surrounded by bang average players. Defense has clowns like Sanchez, midfield you have Winks who should have been moved on 2 or 3 windows ago, I think Royal is average, granted first season and he could improve. Hojbjerg does a job but I think there are better DM's, Reguillon is quick and can run at people but his crossing is not that great.

Just a lot of average around those 2 world class attackers.

Well, someone from Mars carefully reading this topic might think Conte is just a luckier Brendan Rodgers or a better dressed Sean Dyche… which is unreal, because he is in the tier 2 of elite managers, only below the holy trinity Guardiola - Ancelotti - Klopp.

I don't disagree with that. I just don't think he's done anything overly special in his time at Spurs yet.

I think their season is a story of Nuno being exposed as the massive bluffer he is more than anything else.

Strange take, but suit yourself.
So many on here are desperate to run conte down. I find it bizarre that so many of our fans were utterly convinced conte would leave the club a smouldering wreck if we hired him

Indeed.

Signed new deal last August so he's never pushed to leave like Kane has.

I think they'd have muddled along like Man. United did even under Nuno but of course Conte is vastly superior manager. Arsenal lost their first 3 at start of season aswell remember and were in that bunch of teams along with Spurs going into November.

Ultimately if Kane + Son hit peak form then Spurs will simply win plenty of games regardless of manager as they are that good. Kane's head was just a mess for first 3 months which never happened before so that impacted on results.

Thank feck as well. Quality, massively productive, hardworking wide forward who dives more than a young Jason Statham. He's got current Liverpool written all over him.

While Kane and Son are great, the rest of the team is mostly average or below average and I honestly disagree with the notion these 2 players can carry them on their own without improving other aspects of the team. Kane had a magnificent form last season and they were still shit.

Also, it's to Conte's credit that he managed to bring Kane back in the game if anything, while Nuno failed to motivate him after his City deal failure.

Cascarino was going on about Kane going to Liverpool this summer the other day in the Times.

Something I hadn't considered but given Man. City link has gone now and Man. United need even more rebuilding than Spurs would be interesting if they come in for him if Salah dosen't extend.

It's not that bad. Lloris lets in the odd cheap goal but had another very solid season. Romero showing his Serie A form since xmas, Bentancur done very well since joining and Kuluveski looked brilliant in spells so I'd say that's a solid spine behind the strikers even if the need upgrades at wingback and another top CB this summer.

Let's remember they lost 4-5 straight games around Feb-March so not like their only poor form was start of the season (when they won their first 3 games).

2 world class players can carry a team if the rest are solid players put into the right system and are mature and efficient enough.

He is an amazing manager and has done an amazing job.

I genuinely have a bigger fear playing you than any other team in the league bar City.

If he is given a decent amount of money, he will build a scary team for next season.

That’s if Kane and Son stay, too.

With Nuno, they lost 50% of their EPL games with a -7 GD. With Conte they lost 19% with +30 GD. That's a very significant improvement by anybody's standard.
you're right about getting Kane to buy in being key to their success. But I think Conte is also responsible for this.
Also he's recruitment had been good. Targeted Diaz, missed out and bought Kulusevski, whose been a revelation for them.
I don't fear Arsenal getting top 4 as I think their position flatters them lot. Just look at the game against us. I do worry about Spurs because if they get top 4, Levy will buy in and back Conte. His philosophy will also be more ingrained so far he's only had 8 months.

He's never really passed the eye test for me. Quite a good player though obviously

Conte would have been worse than jose with his toxicity here. Bare in mind im not blaming conte, but he's not the character to take lightly to players downing tools.

The main problem with us is the player culture. Check the running stats of spurs and utd, our lot are scum, they don't even try because they aren't arsed.

If conte was the interim manager he wouldn't have been backed in jan and he would have rightly thrown a hissy fit.

Check the running stats of any team pre Conte and during Conte time. Working hard is something that's driven by manager and playing passively will end up with covering less distance.

Chelsea under Jose were midtable to bottom table in distance covered, under Conte they were at top or top 5.

ManUtd under Van Gaal were in top 3-5. Under Jose it was 17-20.

Our running stats this season under ole and rangnick is abysmal. Sure one could blame the manager but in our case i'd blame the players more because ole and rangnick are at two extremes when it comes to man management, ole was there mate and shielded the players while rangnick isn't a mate and is publicly calling them out for not putting in a shift. Lets face it the players are toxic, half of them probably hate the other half and there is no unity. Only solution is to gut this squad and bring in new players and a new culture with the managers authority restored. Even saf said that ten hag would hopefully have "control".
