Coppa Italia Final 2020 - Juventus vs. Napoli - 3 PM EST/ 8 PM BST

Then he should take the first, since as we've seen several times, you don't always get the 5th one.

Always knew Sarri was simply not a good enough manager. He has one or 2 good seasons under his belt with Napoli and that's about it for a +60 years old manager.

2 games in a row 0-0 and losing the cup, talk about the "offensive" manager.

You can’t always predict that it’s a 50/50 shot but no answer is the wrong answer.

1 and 5 are the hardest, the idea to somehow say “dam see they lost cause Ronaldo didn’t shoot first is such a lazy way to put blame on a player”

Portugal lost the penalties to Spain and the 4th kicker missed so that kills that whole argument.

1 and 5 should be the penalties the best player decided to take and like I said the 5th is without question the most difficult.

He took the first one in Moscow 08 didn't he and miss? perhaps that weighs on his mind and he vowed never to do that again, but yeah he needs to consider volunteering to be the 1st for change because his time for a 5th glory pen moment to win doesn't always come round.

People were defending him saying they were getting used to “Sarri ball” they must be taking the piss.

Sarri really doesn't seem to be getting the full use of the Juve players. Napoli did really well though, congratulations to them.

I hate to be that guy , but this isn't the first time that Ronaldo has chosen to be the 5th guy in a shootout and doesn't get to take one because his team mates miss. You really should be asking your best pen taker to be up front and not waiting until the end. You're wasting having him on the team by letting him do that.

Same thing happened for Portugal in confederations cup after they won the Euro. Your best player should take the first penalty to comfort everyone down.

He took the first vs Poland in the euro quarters and scored.

This is such a silly thing to attempt to blame on him.

I don't think it's his own choice anyway, it's the manager's who prefers to keep him to the end but it's simply a wrong move. Let your best player shoot the first one. It does wonders for everyone's confidence.

It's not about "blame" specifically, it's about the team having the best chance to win. The coach of whatever team has Ronaldo in it should be putting him as the first taker, to set the tone, pressure the other team a bit. Juve lost that shootout in the first two kicks. He is their best player and best penalty taker, Sarri didn't use him correctly.

I'm not blaming him and I didn't know about Poland penalty, i'm just used to see him scoring the last pen in a shootout showing us his chiselled 8 pack siuuuuuuu and all that.

Took the third I believe.

I don't understand why Ronaldo don't take penalties earlier. Remember the exact same situation in Euro 2012 semi-final between Spain and Portugal. The best penalty taker should always take atleast the 3rd penalty as the 3rd is bound to get a shot.

It’s damned if you do and damned if you don’t when it comes to him but In high pressure moments it has to 1 or 5

He went first vs Poland and they won he also went 5th plenty of times and won. This type of knit picking (not saying you are) has no substance.

You implied Sarri was more defensive than Mourinho. That can't be true

You haven't seen his tenure with Juve then. He has no innovation, can't break any defensive teams down, has no real leadership.. just sits on the bench and smokes.

He's 60+ years old with no trophies. His claim to fame is playing decent with Napoli. He's basically the Italian Moyes, except worse.

He won the EL last season

He won the EL last season

One trophy in a career that started since 1990 then. Napoli was actually the first good team he had managed in his career and it came in 2015. Just a terrible career overall.

2020 and Buffon still playing! I think he has two seasons left in him still!

Juventus is atrocious under Sarri. Maybe he'll be gone after the season. They just have no style at all. Shambolic play.

Quite interesting that Juve have 4 players better at penalties than Ronaldo.

He took the first one vs Poland at Euro 2016 if I'm not wrong.
I don't care when he does this nonsense at club level but he needs to cut it out at the national level. Did it vs Spain and did at the (not so important) Confed Cup in 2017 as well. You're the best penalty taker for your club/country so why are you taking the chance of not being to able to take one at all?!

It also doesn't help when he says things like this to the manager:

And he insisted that he anticipated the winning goal, which came after Juanfran’s crucial miss. "I had a vision," he said. "I knew that I would score the winning goal... I told [Zinedine Zidane] that and to let me take the fifth and that's how it turned out.

I agree and I disagree.

The hardest penalty to take whether to tie it or if it’s to win it is the 5th penalty.

The first penalty won’t dictate anything because anything can happen in the next 4.

You either take the first or the last as the best player/penalty taker.

For example say a World Cup or euro final is on the line or CL final on the line there is no one else you would want to take that last penalty then a guy like Ronaldo.
Yeah Drogba said exactly that in the CL final 2012 Robbie asked him to go 3rd but he said no 1st or last.

It's a bit like your best batsman in cricket playing at number 6 merely because there might be a close run chase. Yes, it's not quite the same thing but you're putting enormous emphasis on a penalty which often does not matter. The 1st to 3rd penalties always matter, no matter what. They set the tone, they put you in the driving seat or sometimes lose you the whole thing. The 5th is overrated and seemingly chosen for the need to claim glory. If the pressure penalty was the one he wanted, why he didn't just take one of the do/die penalties last night, you know, the ones they needed to put away to stay in it? Doesn't that automatically become the most important penalty at that stage? And he still didn't take. Weird.

If I was manager, I'd ensure I have my three ice cold penalty takers form 1-3. Give yourselves the best chance to take the lead. Highest pressure this that, every penalty is high pressure.

Sarri'll be gone. Poch in.

There's no way Poch would survive in that environment, that team is full of serial winners and it needs a massive personality to go in there who will have there respect, poch wont, Certain teams need certain personalities to coach them, Carlo Ancelotti maybe for example or a Zidane/Pep type, Juventus are all in there peak years, ready to win something, this is not a young team ready for "a project", and that's the type of coach Poch is right now, I love Poch but he's won feck all and would be chewed up and spat right out of italy going to Juve.

The scenes in Naples are something. What a city.

Liverpool will be in for the same.

Happy for Gattuso. Guy has won almost everything as a player and I hope wins more as a coach.

Pretty ironic Napoli have actually won a major trophy at the point their squad of last 5-6 years is starting to break up and they're miles off in the league. Reminds me of Chelsea in 11/12.

Juve need a youth injection though.

If you look at their squad Ronaldo is 35, Chellini 35, Pjanic 30 (seems he might go to Barca), Khedira 33, Matudi 33, Cuadrado 32 and Bonucci 33. Most of those are key players still so the spine is starting to creak a little and Poch has shown he can go to club, lower the average age and still achieve good results.

Doubt likes of De Ligt and Dybala would kick up a fuss over him coming in.

I think it would be a good move all round.

Tevez went first in Moscow. Ronaldo was number 3

More like past their peak

It's not as clear cut as you "Ronaldo should take it 1st" acolytes are making it out to be.

Ronaldo’s ego got the best of him here. He missed a penalty in the last match (it happens) but he absolutely should have gone first. Had the same mistake on 2012 against Spain as well as the confed cup when they lost to Chile.

He should always be one of the first 2-3 to take a penalty not this going fifth for glory BS. As it is Juve are now on pace to win their least amount of trophies in 8 years. Not his fault but decisions like last night’s don’t help at all.

First time Ronaldo has lost two finals in a row since 2004/05. Juve really got a job on for the league now.
