Gaming Crash Bandicoot to return? | Crash 4 is getting upgraded for next gen consoles. Free upgrade for those that have purchased it.

Really excited to play this tomorrow. Crash was the first proper game I ever played. MY dad rented a PS1 (remember renting consoles?) so many times to let me play it that eventually he just gave in and bought one.

Glad they adjusted the stupid difficulty curve in the fitst one tho. Was amusing to hear that Naughty Dog didn't even consider that they might need to hire play testers until they started making the second one lol they did fix the Japanese release of Crash one

Play testing wasn't really the done thing back then, we just went off of the fact us programmers could play the games and occasionally got family members and friends to play every now and then

I generally agree, but graphics from 32 bit era 3D games have probably aged the worst out of any generation of games. Even pre-8 bit games retain much of their simple charm, but play many PS1 games now and the low frame rates and wobbly polygons really make them tough going.
Very true. Though, for me personally, Crash 2 was the only one I really went back to and the graphics never bothered me there. Crash 1 on the other hand was a casualty of being an early game in said generation.:D

I would also LOVE to be able to play the first 3 Spyro games on PS4
Speaking of Naughty Dog, I loved how they called it "Sonic's ass game" in development because, at the time, Sonic was the big platform icon and, due to how the camera of the game worked, you were constantly looking at Crash's behind.

Spyro!

It was literally a crime what they did with the PS2 Spyro games :nono: and the Skylanders version looks naff aswell. The first 3 are among the best games that I have ever played - tho I never cared for the skateboarding.

Looking back at this thread, this was a pretty damn big hint (that didn't get posted) that Crash was coming back  .. obviously mild Uncharted spoilz tho the game has been out for ages so doubt anyone cares

Controlling a Naughty Dog hero who was controlling a Naughty Dog hero? Awesomeballs :P

Yeah, unlike with Crash, I loved all 3 of the original games and, as a child, would play them over Crash any day. Though I may prefer the Spyro series itself and love all 3 games, Crash 2 is still in a league of it's own for me. I think Spyro 2 was my favourite.

Seems to be reviewing pretty solidly - it's even got itself some traditional clickbait low scores that all the expected high traffic games get.

Edit: Yes, yes, it's only a review. But this one from Gamespot is simply staggering. A review of three 90s games, the most recent being launched in November 1998, contains the following:
It might pain you to realise that Crash's original adventures aren't as inventive or surprising as they were 20 years ago.
I can only assume that they had to type this review up as the reviewer had only scribbled it onto his walls at home, finger paint style, using his own shit.

That and the opening "born in 3D" comments are stupid, but comparing crash to Mario and even Sonic is worse.

Whilst he has a point that after playing the first few levels, it's clear Crash is never going to age as well as any of the Mario games, it's more like the DK country type games and as such so far holds up nicely.

Plus, there's a modern way of slagging off nostalgia (and perhaps with reason, we do get waaay too many games and films re-done based on it), but here is a chance for newer gamers to experience some great games and so far this remaster is rather nice.

Crash was never Mario, never as inventive or even as fun, but then what ever has been? That doesn't mean this isn't worth £30 for three games you can seriously enjoy. Gamespot, like a lot of others, has gone rather poncey with it's reviews over the past few years. As always, I'd take them with a huge pinch of salt.

Looks stunning! Tho i must say, the original Warped looks amazing for a PS1 game

Gamespot review is full of shit. Basically saying it's too hard for him. Then they really should get another reviewer to review it and let him review shit like COD.

I have got it and its pretty good so far, only real gripe is with the camera angle which in Crash 2 and 3 is more higher up allowing for better judgement of jumps.

An hour or so in and the games are just as good as I remember. Spent a lot more money on much lesser games in the last couple of years too.

Oh and if the soundtrack doesn't get into your head enough while playing, it's been put on Spotify.

Really like it, bit of an input delay it seems, thought they make have changed that

Yeah definitely.

I like how the speed run times are pretty challenging too :)
 I don't. This is going to take forever for me to plat!

I'm loving playing this though. VV have done well to capture the essence of the original.

The soundtrack <3

I do miss the "created and developed by Naughty Dog" intro though.

Fecking time trials.

8-11 year old me could never do them. I'm hoping another 20 odd years of gaming has helped me because I'm planning to 100% (102%?) these.

I read that the completed Story Ascent level that was dropped from Crash 1 is included. It's a variation on Slippery Climb, which i reckon is one of the best levels of platform gaming anywhere. Exciting.

Sold out everywhere and biggest selling single platform game of the year in the UK

Both amazing and a little bit depressing. But really good news for me as it means GOAT Crash Team Racing may happen!

Bought this earlier and really enjoying it. My first time on the PS4 in ages.

Why depressing?

But yeah this has to be amazing when the Xbot and project spark developer alock1 is saying that about a PS exclusive.

Do you think Activision may decide to turn it multiformat after seeing the sales?

I expected it. One of the most memorable games from the PS1. A lot of people would have been like me - played it as a kid, now an adult... a lot will have children now and want to share the experience and nostalgia with them. In an era of loads of multiplayer open world games, this single player platformer has a broad appeal with not much competition in its department for those who have a PS4 anyway.

It's a little depressing when the best selling opening is a 20 year old remake and not something new. Understandable somewhat but still..

Wouldn't be surprised to see it on Xbox but wonder if Sony have some sort of first refusal on Exclusivity. It won't have the same impact on Xbox either.

My teenage son has already blitzed through them

Meanwhile I cant get off the 1st world on part 1 (Ive only actually played for an hour or so)

Slippery climb is an absolute fecker... took me and the missus at least an hour to beat it.

Absolutely loving it but feck it gets hard at points

Real nostalgic for me as it's the first game along with Spyro the dragon I played as a kid. I hope they remaster crash team racing too.

Time to hand over the controller to him and stick to Peggle.

Does he like Uncharted or Last of us?

He liked last of us but was never bothered with uncharted

He is more into multi player. Destiny, overwatch and old pc games like that game I can't remeber name of that was in the orange box with portal and half life

Tried getting a bunch of the gold time trial relics last night in Crash 1. Jesus, after that I felt like I needed to play a nice relaxing game like Bloodborne or something.
