Yet teammates have nothing but positives to say about him as well as manager. SAF who would not take any bs from anyone adores him. But we have to listen to the truth that daysleeper tells us from his Messi pjs
Madrid teammates were VERY agitated with Ronaldo after the last CL win, he even went his own way after the match ended since he had to talk about himself instead of celebrating the win. Ramos and Marcelo were very annoyed with his diva bs.

But conveniently forget about that because AF thought Ronaldo was a nice guy in 2008

 the only person Di Maria carried was Messi to the World Cup finals where he bottled it.

Let’s for one moment assume Argentina is stoke fc and Portugal is last seasons Man City. At the end of the bloody thing Messi has twice had to just hit a freaking penalty and he bottled it .... twice!

There is no team no dynamic nothing in play there. Just Messi crumbling under pressure .
Hahahahaha and who got Argentina out of the group stage? Who got player of the tournament at the WC? How was Ronaldo at the last World Cup? Oh right, he was injured.

Di Maria had lost the ball more times than any player in history in the last WC. He’s also injury prone.

Di Maria was comfortably the best player in the pitch in a final with Ronaldo, none of the copas could you say that about Di Maria over Messi.

Big difference between a group stage win and winning a FINAL without your star player
Is it really? It's so dumb to use that final to try to prove Portugal is actually good without Ronaldo, we were completely dominated, should have lost by 2 or 3 if Griezmann didn't bottle a bunch of chances and won it with an Eder shot from outside of the box. It's one game and this is football, one game doesn't prove anything and any team can beat another.

Between then and now we lost 2-0 in Switzerland without him and failed to break Andorra down for 60 minutes until he came on. His influence is obvious to anyone that actually watches play.

The biggest tragedy is that all that talent on Argentina and they can’t do anything unless Messi does it for them.
Why do you think there are so many talented players playing for Argentina that spend the whole year being great for their clubs that then apparently turn to shit when playing for their country and Messi has to do everything for them? Is it black magic? I'd really like to know what's your theory behind this crazy phenomenon.

Hahahahaha oh my god, yes Morocco will beat the Germany’s and Brazil’s and france’s

You guys vastly overrate Morocco
Its not about realistically winning it but seemed like they'd play better football than Portugal did and with a Ronaldo leading the line they'd would be much more effective. At the very least they played much better than Portugal did all game.

Even if they were annoyed, I'd rather be an annoyed teammate with a 3peat champions league under my belt than having a bottling Messi as my "leader" who has been crapping himself since Xavi/Iniesta left

Too bad Messi doesn’t have a Ramos or Bale to bail him out when he goes missing in the finals like he did in 2014, 2016 and 2018

Oh man, that’s a luxury!

A luxury is playing 3 Champions League finals ahead of the best midfield ever and one of those with Suarez and Neymar next to him, that’s a luxury. There’s a reason why Ronaldo has played twice as many Champions League finals as Messi and it’s not because he’s had better teammates.

Messi’s had better teammates throughout his career than anyone in the history of the sport... and simultaneously he has more people complaining about his teammates than anyone in the history of the sport. It’s just embarassing.

Wow.. and no white text?

Surely using the "Messi doesn't have players to bale him out" argument is not your wisest choice here. I am going to let others laugh at this and not bother replying. Too deluded of a Messi fanboy.

If Ronaldo played for his Iberian brothers Spain, it would almost be a mirror of him playing for Real Madrid.

Spain, already great will be undoubted tournament favourites with Ronaldo favourite for top scorer. Just like Madrid already being great - he gives them that something extra that no other teams have.

I reckon if he played for an international team like Spain, he could match or even surpass the World Cup goals record in a single tournament if he started from 0 WC goals (all-time) scoring 16-17 goals. If he can do it in the CL playing for RM almost every year, I don't see why he couldn't do it in the WC.

Fernando Santos, tactical genius

Sampaoli is obviously a much better manager than Santos. Patricio is better than Romero but not by much.

Just play next to Ronaldo and suddenly everyone seems to rate you higher, it's weird how that works.
In light of recent events, is your opinion the same?

Fernando Santos is the one that brought Greece to the WC knock outs for the first time in its history, brought Portugal to the Euro win, and on a personal note, he made PAOK look impossible to beat by any team whatsoever.

Except the fact that the Champions League has twice as many games in every round bar the final. A CL run is 13 games if a team reaches the final, while a WC run is 7 games.

I'd say Ronaldo could expect to get about 10 goals in a tournament playing for a team like Spain at their dominant best.

oh yeah i forgot it's 2 legged unlike the WC.

I reckon he could still get 12-13 goals in those 7 games playing somewhere at or near his best.

He got 17 in 11 in 13/14 season in the CL.

The game against Portugal would have ended 6-0, lol.

Yes, I’m very aware of Fernando Santos’ career work and there shouldn’t really be any doubt. Sampaoli’s done a lot of things I’ll never understand as Argentina manager though

I’ve bem extremely critical of what he’s been doing from day 1

Well....you could say Di Maria wasn't any worse than Messi either though. Oh btw Di Maria played like 20 minutes total in those 3 finals...

No, but playing in more CL finals definitely is(mostly). You only have to look it up
:lol::lol::lol:

Where do you look up for luck? You treat it as fact with absolutely no proof at all.

It's not just CL finals, Ronaldo played in 6 CL finals. Messi played in 3. Ronaldo has played in CL semis 11 times, Messi just 7.

You will throw the excuses you want, it's luck, it's the refs, it's a freaking volcano in Italy then you'll ignore everything that went against Ronaldo and favoured Messi but how many times will this have to happen before the excuses stop? Wether it's in Madrid or in Paris next year Ronaldo will be playing the CL final again and you'll be here arguing it's luck again. How many times in a row will it take?

Maybe Ronaldo's teams get further because he actually does play better in those games given he scores more and he assists more.
CL quarters: 20 games for Ronaldo, 23 goals. 20 games for Messi, 10 goals.
CL semis: 20 games for Ronaldo, 13 goals. 13 games for Messi, 4 goals.

Those aren't meaningless goals either nor are the Messi games great performances where he just didn't score... in a year people will be arguing exactly that about yesterday's game too but it is true that he's regularly underperformed. Ronaldo hasn't. So, why does Ronaldo get so damn lucky all the time?

That's not the point. Cristiano could have been better than Messi, sure. You still don't make it to the CL final without massive amounts of luck involved. The way the competition is structured makes sure of it. Our 4 CL finals:
2014: we were great. Better than our opponents. We also played Borussia Dortmund missing half their team. Then Mhkitaryan missing an open goal sitter in the second leg
2016: roma, wolfsburg, manchester city.
2017: kassai
2018: bayern beating themselves

Cristiano was just as good for us in 2012 and 2013 and 2015 compared to 2016 or 2018, yet we didn't make the final those seasons

And it's not like he's dragged us through every single game either even when we did

You can make the argument for Cristiano being better than Messi in the CL, it's a fair argument and you could make a good point. But comparing number of CL finals is dumb. There are too many external factors

Luck is very rarely determinant overall. One single time you may get lucky or unlucky, when there's a trend then it's not luck. You make your own luck.

Madrid got lucky in 2016 because you got an easy draw, but in 2018 you also got lucky despite getting a hard draw. How does that work? You got lucky because of Kassai but Barcelona didn't get lucky in 2009? Kassai didn't even help Madrid btw, a normal ref and the game doesn't even go to extra time...

They've been playing CL football for a long time, they've both been unlucky and lucky but luck does not justify that difference. Their performances do. Just like Portugal got lucky in 2016 but the previous years are convinently forgotten. When you consistently get far and when you're consistently better then you're much more likely to get those breaks going in your favour.

Agree with most of your post. However there is no argument on whom has been the better player in UCL. It is Ronaldo and it is not even close.

Same can be said - but the other way around - when it comes to the league.

Barcelona had luck in 2009. How is bayern munich gifting us 2 goals, playing us off the park for 180 minutes and missing sitter after sitter after sitter not luck? How was Kassai putting his hand in his pocket ready to send off Casemiro only to change his mind at the last second, then going the other way and sending off Vidal not luck? Two clearly offside goals? The first leg against PSG? Come on.

The argument for Cristiano being more consistently great has merit, but it's not the biggest reason for the difference in number of finals played. We are not a one man team. We don't make finals because of Cristiano. Just like Barcelona aren't a one man team and didn't make finals because of Messi

Vidal should have been sent off before Casemiro... the first leg you were robbed. For every moment of luck in your favour you can find a moment where it was the other way around.

Obviously Madrid and Barcelona aren’t one man teams but they do have a lot of influence anyway. Ronaldo doing more put Madrid in a better position and when that’s the case then luck is more likely to go in your favour. People only remember the luck from the team that wins.

Yes but neither team has ever lived and died with them when they made the final. In fact, a good way to compare their performances is to look at their teams results in ties in which they were great or outright difference makers, and in ties were they weren't good

I've seen it suggested a few times how Cristiano is in his peak right now. Honestly that's just not true at all, he was a better individual player from 2011-2013 than he is now. The only difference is the team around him and external factors he has not influence over.
