Cristiano Ronaldo : The Juventus Chapter | Fin

Correlation doesn’t equal causation. Since he joined, Juve have also failed massively to properly invest in their team and rectify glaring issues they’ve had. If anything, he papered over the cracks for them in the previous two years.

Don't you think Ronaldo's transfer and salary has a lot to do with Juve penny-pinching elsewhere? Ronaldo has ruined Juventus (or to put it another way, Agnelli's Paratici's and Nedved's decision to go all out for Ronaldo at the expense of other areas in midfield, defense and GK has ruined Juventus)

Confounded by the pandemic too.

It's be interesting to see the transfers that clubs opted not to do in the years running up to now if they knew what was coming.

Weirdly I think our moves would have been largely the same, which is probably a good sign that we're better at not pissing away money.

I've been reading a lot here that it's not Ronaldo's fault, he's put up good numbers, but somehow Juve have failed him.

I guess fanboys don't realize football is a collective sport, you need everyone to do their part not just hang by the goalmouth to tap in or shoot PK's. Football has moved on from the bonafide striker superstar - both City and Chelsea for example don't have any world class strikers, in fact they have very average to below strikers (by goal stats alone), but in return they work their asses off; pressing, rushing, hurrying, moving into space etc. Ronaldo's movement in the box is still world class and he's still deadly, but the moment Juve lose the ball he just becomes a passenger. This is not recent (he was like that at United), but he's taken it to a new extreme at Juve.

Juve haven't helped themselves with appointing Pirlo or not building their midfield at all, but Ronaldo is not blameless in their debacle of a season.

I was wrong about you my friend

Thats ok, Ronaldo can once again run away, this time from SerieA, and go to PSG for his new challenge of overthrowing Lille and conquer another league in another country! What a new challenge! Siuuuuu

Once again run away? What a bizarre criticism. Ronaldo can be criticised for a lot of things but this is a new one.

Ronaldo runs away from the competition every couple of years whilst others stay loyal to their club to stick to the best competition that they find harder to win every year.

That's their mindset.

It's up to him really. If they miss out on CL juventus might even be willing to pay to get him out

They can't afford him anymore. And honestly, as good as he's been for them - and he has been phenomenal for them, make no mistake - at this point he holds them back on the pitch, too. His presence forces everyone else to adapt to him, and they can't rebuild around him either

C.Ronaldo is what we call finished. Maybe it's time the bloke stops thinking he can beat Father Time and retire from the Portugal National Team and leaving it tor Bruno to become the new captain of a new Golden Generation for Portugal.

time to go to the MLS for Ronaldo. It's where the money and fame is. Makes sense.

That is not going to happen until he beats Ali Dia's record, and rightfully so.

Hes got 34 goals this season in a terrible Juve team. He's absolutely nowhere near his top level but certainly has another year or 2 in him and is really useful for Portugal and will be this summer.

As far as I can see they have spent quite a lot of money since Ronaldo arrived. Most of the transfers just havn't worked out.

Transfer worked well for Cristiano Ronaldo since he won the same amount of league titles as he won in his entire time at Real Madrid and now his 'total leagues won' doesn't look terrible.

It’s serie a where Juve had won 8 in a row though. It’s like winning the league with Bayern or psg

This. Doesn't matter how many goals you score if you are surrounded by mediocrity. No one can say Harry Kane is finished because he will be playing another season in the Europa League. He can't help it if he is surrounded by mediocrity. How many of us would get excited if we heard that we signed Morata, Dybala, Rabiot and Bernadeschi from Juve? We would all be disappointed if that was our window.

Ronaldo has been great for Juventus, and honestly, I don't think anyone can blame him for his performances, which really is the only thing you can judge a player for.

Its not his fault that Juventus wanted to sign him in the first place and created this huge dilemma. Criticising his playing style and wages for Juventus' poor season is just ridiculous. They knew exactly what they were in for when they contacted him.

Its like critcising Maguire for costing us 80m.

Juventus are the only ones to blame for CR7's transfer being a fail. No one else.

Anyone that understands football even a tiny bit could have known that CR7 alone wouldnt take Juventus to the next level, in fact they were already there after dominating Italy for nearly a decade and being CL finalists twice in a short period of time.

They didnt need a luxury transfer to reach the next level, and surely not one that would change the dynamics of the team and what was working before completely. CR7 is the cherry on top, ive always said it.

Its clear to everyone that this transfer was a bad call for everyone. Obviously CR7 is going to still score goals since he's one of the best goalscorers of all time, and hes taking all the penalties and a thousand shots per game, but still, football is a bit more complex than just scoring a ton, especially at the highest level.

There's no way he stays in Juve to play for the Europa League right? After this bad season, im sure he will want revenge, he is probably going to look for another CL club. I really doubt he's going back to Portugal now, or the MLS.

He's stuck at Juve. I don't see which team could want him now, pay his transfer and wages. Not a big one at least.

If he wants to move, maybe a return to Sporting will do.

I think the Ronaldo transfer for Juventus was a big mistake. Sure Ronaldo has scored alot of goals (many penalties) but the problem is how much space he takes up in a team and how little he contributes outside of goals. He is such an ego and i don't think he contributes positively for a teams spirit. Also many matches where he doesn't score he is the worst player in the team.

Juventus would have not fallen this much if they had spend their money on other stuff than Ronaldo.

Some people have a short memory. Why would they think he failed with Juve. His first season under Allegri was brilliant. He won the Serie A, Scored a bunch of goals and had great UCL until we lost against Ajax and to be fair we were missing a lot of regular players that game. Second season was not great but not bad as well.

If you compare his two first season with us and with Real Madrid you can see that there is big difference. Ronald didn’t win anything with Madrid until Mourinho came and his only trophy in that season (2010-2011) was Copa Del Rey. It took him 4 years to win the UCL with R.Madrid.

Let’s talk about his humble beginning with Manchester United even though he was young. He won one FA Cup for three years.

Juventus 3yrs: 2 Scudettos, 2 Italian Super Cup
Man United 3yrs: 1 FA Cup
Real Madrid 3yrs: 1 La Liga, 1 Copa Del Rey, 1 Spanish Super Cup.

Well, Madrid paid 93M for a 23 year old Ronaldo. Juventus paid 100M for a 34 year old Ronaldo, they didnt have the luxury to wait 4 years for him to start making a serious impact. Not to mention that Real Madrid competed against probably the best football team of all time, Juventus didnt.

It was just a bad transfer overall, all things considered. Should have focused around Dybala.

10 years ago 93m was more than today’s 100m. All I am saying is that he is just doing fine and If he leaves today we would leave with 2 Scudetto which is not easy. And if juve win coppa Italy then he won every trophy domestically. The UCL is not his fault, Juve didn’t win it since 1996.

The thing is Juventus has clearly gotten weaker since he arrived.

I very much understand that Marotta was against that transfer.

What kind of weird comparisons are those?

Played very well today in my opinion. Great goal. But the highlight for me is right below. He demolished the poor fella

Edit: quite ridiculous the pace and agility at his age

Really hope he can get a good manager to manage his serie A career a bit better.

Statistics so check the statistics. He always struggles in the beginning that is all I was pointing out. But this time he is getting old and we are going down so we let him go and continue without him.

Ronaldo was a teenager when we signed him ffs

It's only not weird if there are no variables. That's three different teams, three different countries, three different ages.

Well it’s good to reach the milestone of 100 goals for Juventus. Maybe that will give him stronger reason to leave in summer? Afterall it’s likely he would have won everything with Juventus: League, (cup), super cup, best player, top scorer, 100 goals milestone... etc except a CL, before he’s leaving. Can’t say it’s really a success which meets his high expectation without a CL trophy, but he had more or less won everything, except a CL:

Juventus at age 33-36:
- league title x2
- (cup x1) (in the final)
- super cup x2
- league best player award
- (league top goalscorer award) (leading by 6 goals with 2 more games remaining)
- 100 goals milestone (perhaps the quickest player to reach this?)
- break/hold record of scoring most goals in a season for Juventus
- 100 goals in 131 games, best in Italy over past 3 seasons
- Runners up in Ballon D‘or (Still among very best in world)

Over 100 goals for Manchester United, Real Madrid (well 450 in 438 games for them!) Juventus and Portugal. Truly remarkable.

I just read that he scored his 100th goal with Juve and yet some are claiming he’s finished....

Dont think anybody has said that CR7 is finished. Put a CR7 at 70% of his max level and he is a better goal scorer than 99% of the players in history.

Put him at current Chelsea, Liverpool or United and they become instantly premier league favorites IMO, as long as the manager knows what hes doing

Somebody literally used those words further up on this page.
