Darwin Núñez / signs for Liverpool

As long as he score goals and I think he will. Great striker will always find the net. Kate isn't pacy, doesn't look anything WC yet he find goals every season. If ETH feels that he is the real deal then sign him up. Another season like this, big clubs will be in for him.

Inferior replacement for Mane. Not upset at all about them spunking that kind of money on him.

The way this is moving at the minute I would be surprised if he wasn't signed for Liverpool by the end of the day !

Looks like we’re going to miss out on this one. Has Liverpool written all over it.
I remember the days when Utd were shopping Harold’s and Liverpool in Sainsburys. How the tables have turned!

So what's our concern now ? The fact we were ready to spend 85m on Nunez or the fact that Liverpool is spending that money on the same kid ?

Because most of the concern is now due to the fact that he is signing for Liverpool and not because he is pricey.

Totally agree. People think a player will just come in and Replace Mane and Salah just like that. Playing a full season in the PL at full throttle is not many players can do!

I fecking hate how efficient they've become. We're still trying to convince a player who has effectively told us to feck off.

Fully expect Timber and Torres to have been snapped up before we even think about moving on from De Jong.

I'd be shocked if we ever were interested. We seem to be the go to club that gets linked with a player whenever a club/agent wants to drive up their price.

Not many, but I would back pretty much anyone Klopp thinks is capable of doing so, especially at that price. His track record is incomparable.

Anyone else of the opinion that this is merely a ploy by Nunez's agent and Benfica to get Utd to cough up the money they want?

Is he truly worth that amount of money?

TBF Salah came in to the premier league and absolutely smashed it in his first season after being an ok player at Roma. Not saying this will be the case with Nunez since I've hardly seen him apart from a few CL matches but seems like people are calling him shit based on wishful thinking rather than actually seeing him play.

Would love to know how many people in here actually watch the Portuguese league regularly.

I know people have different opinions, but it seems yesterday the majority on here were totally against signing him, whereas since the Liverpool links the majority on here are now in despair.

At that price, meh. About 40m more than what I'd feel comfortable with. And it's not like he's a Frenkie style player where you feel like he's the perfect fit for us and you know how good he is, so it doesn't matter what you spend as long as you get him... There are loads of question marks around him, but also big potential. But that price is as if he is already the finished product and it's a no risk signing which he just isn't.

We'll see how he does there if he does go! Would've been nice but again, stupid price so whatever, not too fussed.

But I thought he was a DONKEY!!!!!

I'm loving this meltdown.  :lol::lol::lol::lol:

We’re just not attractive anymore. Our name itself use to be able to make people join but even that isn’t good enough anymore. Hopefully ten Hag can be very persuasive.

Spending 40m to switch Mane for Nunez doesn't make Liverpool a better team than they were this year.

When I think of the money we have thrown after the likes of Pogba, Maguire, AWB and Fred it just makes me sick. I hope the club has learned and will only go for players that prioritize United has the right attitude and most importantly the potential to become world class. I don’t think any of the before mentioned would tick all three boxes at the time they were bought.
If Nunez priorities Liverpool then make sure they end up paying as much as possible for him, but let him go.

Benfica fans online seem to think they're robbing Liverpool blind here. He doesn't really wow me, but he's only 22 so plenty of room and time to improve in Klopp's system.

I am not going to change my opinion on him just because Liverpool are apparently getting him, the risk is too high at that price for a very raw talent who could easily flop over here after one good season in portugal. Let Liverpool take the risk instead of us.

Not bothered on this one, its irrelevant who we have upfront when as a team we are incapable of movement or creating decent chances.

Way bigger issues to solve first like actually establishing an identity a style of play and a attacking system then throwing 100million euros at a young striker.

This is a last piece of a jigsaw signing we are way off that.

You can almost pinpoint the exact moment he went from an overpriced donkey to an example of how clubs should conduct transfer business in this thread

If it's true, you have to give Liverpool credit. They have long term replacements for Mane, Salah and Firmino (Nunez, Diaz and Jota) likely without breaking any salary caps, with minimum fuss and in a short space of time.

Meanwhile, United still haven't replaced Sanchez or Lukaku from Solskjaer's first Summer.

Klopp and Liverpool have a great record with transfers, especially when they spend big money. So I may just be completely wrong but I can't really wrap my head around this deal other than Liverpool having few ways to really improve the team to keep pace with City other than a big Plan B striker and figuring that the next couple years are YOLO time for winning the big trophies.

I still can't quite get past the suspicion that all the Liverpool interest is just rumors planted by his agents or Benfica trying to drive another club, whether United or somebody else, to bid. But the simplest explanation is probably that Liverpool have some genuine interest.

Load of crap we had one of the most promising strikers in the world on our books but then they committed a heinous crime, hardly in the planning was it.

I mean, we are fecking crap at recruitment but yes it's a joke getting upset about losing out on a raw talent who's pretty fecking far from a sure bet for silly money.

Benfica have already received the bid of 100m (80m + 20m bonuses) and he will sign a 5 year contract

Most on here didn’t fancy him tbf. For that price it’s not worth it, given Ronaldo will play up front for us. Also don’t think he improves Liverpool too much with Mane leaving, although I bet he will be class.

They did let loose for VVD, Keita and Allison so they must be absolutely convinced by his quality. Maybe he suits their system really well.
Yeah, paying high fees isn’t generally a huge issue. It’s when the wages players ask for reach oil club level it’s an issue. That’s not something that would be a problem with Nunez.

He looks like a Cavani regen to me.

Disagree.

We were sold the line that Cavani was a temporary replacement for Lukaku while we searched for a long-term replacement. Who still isn't here.

Yeah saw loads of compilations on twitter of him mis-controlling the ball and therefore supposedly being unfit for ETH football/overrated. Love how the narrative changes when now he's going to Liverpool.

He's scored 35 odd goals this season and performed in the CL - also players from Portugal traditionally fare well in England so it's a fantastic signing if you ask me.

Nice. Good to see Liverpool overspend for once. Hate seeing them buy good players on the cheap.

Don't do it to yourselves. You know full well that this guy isn't a Mane signing. He's going to be the first actual CF with real quallity they've signed. If anything, it's Firmino who ought to be concerned. Diaz was brought in nice and early to offset any Mane sale.
