Day 5: Hungary vs Portugal | France vs Germany

American footballers didn’t worry all that much about those head bangs either, until someone else did the thinking for them. The athletes don’t tend to have the best recognition of what’s the right amount and kind of pain to tolerate in the moment. Too busy being real men.

Potential injury is part of sport. You can't sanitize the sport completely.

Werner getting a game, there's hope for all of us still.
I could run around looking confused for 20 minutes, no problem. Probably manage to stay onside too..... :D

Potentially but challenging for aerial balls has an fairly high level of inherent danger. Any one of of heads, feet, legs or arms can smash you up good in the air with no intent at all.

You don't challenge with your knees. Stop talking nonsense Dwazza. :D

You can't really outlaw going for the ball. Concussions are bad but to an extent, it's also just a risk when playing sports.

He's talking about the PSG-Bayern game where Mbappe was clear for a 1v1 and the flag was raised without letting play go on, it turned out Mbappe was on-side and should have had the scoring chance.

Alright, how many chances is Werner going to miss in these last 15 mins or so. I'm going for three

Oh right. He was responding to a post about this tournament so I was confused.

The german coach and sniffing.. I'm going to raise a petition to the cameramen not to show him on tv again

No, i'm talking about the first half, Mbappe was through and got flagged offside. Maybe not a full on goal scoring opportunity but they flagged and whistled instantly when Mbappe was onside.

Oh my fault, I could only think of that Bayern game because I couldn't believe how inconsistent they are with either letting the play go or not and it was a bad call in that one. Didn't catch this one in the first half.

Certain kinds of injuries are worse than others, and more unnecessary than others. The only reason they’re still tolerated is because we lack the capacity to see the damage those head blows do. We have much better visibility into it now but rules change slower than technology.

You used to be able to knee keepers in the head. Now you can’t. It’s based on the same principles as aerial challenges and it didn’t make the game worse at all. There’s no need to go jumping in with your knee near someone’s head. Seriously, it’s not hard to replay that move with something much less dangerous and no less entertaining.

Retrospective red card for Nosher Rudiger would be hilarious…. make it happen

Var has barely made a dent in this tournament so far

Mbappe at full speed is breathtaking....Hummels did very well to get the tackle in at the end.

I must have missed that one. But there’s been a couple of close to offside goals. Netherlands second and Portugal’s third.

Those afterburners from Mbappe. I know it’s Hummels who is arguably one of the slowest players in world football but it really highlights how quick he is compared to mortals.

Reminds me of Henry's run vs Paraguay in '98.
