Day 8: Japan vs Costa Rica | Belgium vs Morocco | Croatia vs Canada | Spain vs Germany

Why do these Bayern players choke away our tournaments?

Morata would probably do good for a Ten Hag side…

He is a good player, with erratic finishing. Excellent movement, good physical gifts and better general technique than many give him credit for.

Musiala has to square that. Shearer speaking as striker saying he had no option but to shoot.

Eh don't overreact. It's been a 50/50 game vs Spain who are the best team in the world IMO. Germany didn't take their chances vs Japan so it was a feck up that might cost them, but could easily still reach the final.
This Spanish team is packed full of potential but no way their the best team at the moment, too young and too inexperienced to be so and Germany has been clearly dreadful in both matches.

It's not looking good for them at the moment and no big batch of talent coming in to save the day like it did back in 2010.

Shearer (and commentators) talking about linesman holding the flag up late is always funny. Like they've just come out of a coma and it's new

Don't see them beating France or Brazil though

I think they could beat France. Not sure on Brazil. Yeah that's a prospective QF isn't it so luck of the draw.

Just feels like a WC that's going to suit them especially with return of amazing quality in midfield. They grew into last year's euros after a slow start and could've made the final and much more convincing start this time.

Innit! It's actually a really good rule that helps reduce bad decisions.

The offside law wasn't designed for cm accuracy. It's there to stop goal hanging.

Should have been tested before it was ever used. Law needs updating for VAR games, kills the spectacle, often.
It's a clear offside and if you're not able to see why Rüdiger is getting an unfair advantage in that position then I don't know what to say.

It is indeed not looking good but Germany haven't been dreadful in either match. Too soft in some situations defensively and not direct enough in attack. But the players have created a lot of scoring chances that they simply haven't taken.

Agree with that, how quickly they forget their friends. He will be back if they drop out, but we should be strong, not to accept his apologies. For at least a day. That will teach him!

Nah if they get knocked out we should offer him sympathy while secretly laughing behind his back

Nah Spain are the most talented team for sure. Best coaches, and they perform the best on the pitch. They were the best team in the euros too, lost on pens to Italy in the semi final.

No batch of talent? Musiala is literally one of the best teenagers in world football!!

I don’t disagree with not flagging tight offsides in case it’s a mistake and ruins a goal scoring opportunity.

What I don’t like, is flagging it way later. If the break doesn’t lead to a big chance, a goal or a penalty etc, then just play on if it’s tight enough as makes feck all difference.

Why is shearer having a meltdown over the offside?

It was a very marginal offside. The linesman is absolutely right to let them go as it could lead to a goal. That’s the whole point of the rule.

Yeah, I don't get why people complain about it. We'd lose some goals if the linesman flagged straight away. They're not always right. Letting it go to VAR if a goal is scored is better than the linesman basing it on his opinion.

What are the linesman waiting for? Players are offside by 2-3m but he just has to wait another 10 sec.
i get it if it is close and hard to call, but when it is so obvious?

These refs are awful

Blowing up the kick off for the second half for someone being in front of the line when they kicked it backwards was the biggest bit of dickhead refereeing of the year for me.
