Spain went too conservative in their thinking. It's just not in this team's DNA to just hold on to the ball and kill time. Had Germany on the ropes but decided to play it safe.

If they’re this overwhelming side then international football is possibly at its lowest ever level.
That win against Costa Rica was their equivalent of England's 6-2. They are a good side Spain but not more than QF, SF depending on the draw

Since the Spain midfield subs Germany started to get a foothold with possession and got their first corner of the match soon after. Could see the equalizer coming.

Germany actually have a healthy lot of talent coming up:
defence: Bella - Kotchap from Southampton, Thiaw from Milan, Luca Netz from Möchengladbach.
midfield: Aydin, Eyüp from Bayern, Eric Martel from Cologne
attack: Moukouko from Borussia, Ansgar Knauff & Karem Adeyemi from Borussia also, Musiala then and Wirtz from Leverkusen who had ACL injury.
Thanks so it's not as bad as i thought but even then it doesn't hold candle to what they had 13 years ago.

Wasn't specifically posting about that. VAR offside just ruins the spectacle generally. Saw it with Morata just now. So grating.
VAR will get it right eventually. It's here to stay, so no point moaning about it.

Sane is a baller. His runs and passes are making the difference. Imo Muller is a bit redundant now that they have Musiala who does everything he does but better.

If that's red, Germany should have had a pen

This forum way too negative. People even complaining about this match? Great tactical match with massive crowd and goals.
Why even watch ?

Rodri out of position, Alba way past his best, Busquets older than time itself and Simon being a bit calamitous, the defence is not what you need to win a tournament.

Add in the lack of a goal scorer and it’s really hard to see how they got this rep

It wasn't designed to ruin the spectacle of the game as it now does with VAR. It's there to stop goal hanging.

Couldn't give who wins this game or not.
Fun fact that I posted on here yesterday. The offside rule was brought in as rugby offside. You couldn’t be ahead of the ball at all when receiving a pass
It’s why posts like yours never made sense, it was never brought in for anything less than catching players offside. Pie in the sky stuff.
This is the loosest offside has ever been, it’s ridiculous that there’s still crying over it when it even has a daylight rule involved now as well.

Enrique continuing his history of crap subs. His subs and change in the past 20 mins really invited Germany on to them. He experiments too much.

Ok that's now Hofmann, Schlotterbeck, Klostermann, and Füllkrug on the pitch in a vital Germany Spain game at the WC.

That’s a weird comparison seeing as Germany are miles better than the USA. This has been a far higher quality football game.

No doubt about their talent but again they're just too young, this'll be a learning experience for them not an attempt at winning, also their attack is blunt.

And on the second part it doesn't matter how talented musiala is, it doesn't hold the candle to the likes of neuer, Muller, ozil and co burying on to the scene back in 2010, they need a serious injection of talent to compete at the highest level again.

Annd they scored, never tempt fate.
I dunno I just don't see it at all. Spain was too young at the euros and they outplayed everyone and lost on pens to the winners who were also excellent. How is the attack blunt, they are the top scorers in the world Cup? They are coached brilliantly and play like an elite CL side and have bundles of creativity. They are young sure, but Pedri is world class already, not some random young player.

And with Germany ... All their best players are 26/27 and their most important player is 19. They also have Adeyemi and Moukoko, both potentail elite attackers, also teenagers. Like... It's just flat out wrong to say they don't have good young players coming through, it's as good as ever.

What a high quality game. These two teams are playing a different game to the rest of the countries. Probably only Brazil can keep with them.
I don't think the game is that good technically, lots of intensity for sure but Spain conceded a lot against a Germany team that lost to Japan 3 days ago, they hardly play "a different game".

So Germany and Spain qualify from this group as expected. Probably for the best for the world cup.
