    Not a winger obviously.

He's not a winger and should be viewed as someone just filling in until Lingard returns. We need real quality in that position, Dalot should be used at RB next season, hopefully with a special RW ahead of him. He can put in a good cross but he doesn't have the pace, trickery or attacking flair to be the forward option.

Hope he develops his game as a right back, i'm not even sure what position was playing, was he really playing as a winger?

considering his age i won't be surprised if ole decides to change his position into a more attaking one though.

Good game for him. He's got the right mentality to be here, with his directness and desire. Probably not quick enough to be a winger but I hope he makes the full back spot his own next year.

I would really like to see him get more games at right back. Seems to adjust nicely to life in Manchester.

I think Dalot is not really playing as winger, he's playing as a wingback on the right flank, you can see from the tactical point view that Young is playing as LCB.

If this is how Dalot attack considering we brought him for the future RB, I'd be happy with it. We probably could have scored a goal from his attacking other days.

I like him better as an energy sub bringing some pep off the bench than starting at this point. Just not ready, especially as a defender in these big games.

Yeah his poorest games have been at fullback. Wouldn't have minded seeing him wide in a 433 again.

Definitely. I don't think he's looked good in defence at all. As a winger he's been impressive. It's why, even though he's not great himself, I'd have Young starting over him for sure.

He's not ready to start as a RB for United. He seems to have no clue defensively at times. Obviously has potential, but we need to play an experienced RB ahead of him who is not Ashley Young.

To be fair to him, did he at any point get one option ahead of him on the right hand side? We just ignore the whole side of the pitch.

Nobody to link with on his side of the pitch and a poor game from the midfield and both CB's had dodgy moments, I find it hard to see much wrong in his basic performance, it wasn't great but a young player is going to struggle with that much dysfunction from the senior players.

He was alright, clearly playing it safe and with not much going on ahead of him. He's shown he's no worse than Ashley Young so time to start playing him into the team.

Pretty poor defensively. We should switch him to a sub RW and get another right back in summer.

Team ignored him for large parts of the match. Decent connection on a shot that got blocked. Booked late on.

No complaint from me. I think he did fine.

"Good in attack, lacking in defending, still raw" is getting repetitive.

    It's within expectation.

If you think this is repetitive, try visiting the other player performance threads.

I think it needs saying again, if anything, because there’s some people on this forum who think we don’t need a RB this summer. Despite losing the ageing Valencia and Darmian and young Dalot not looking particularly reading for RB yet.

With how many people claim he should be our starting RB then no it isn't within expectation of a starting RB for a top club.

What is repetitive is his consistent lack of ability to defend properly. He isn't ready to be a starter, now that is fine and within expectation. You can't pull the teenage card while still claiming he should start every game though.

Right now he is worse than Young. There, I said it! Yes, he may learn and he may become better than Young in the future, but right now he is worse.

Disagree, I honestly think he is world class already. I know that sounds crazy but Mbappe is world class at the same age. Dalot just oozes quality.

No-one was passing to him when he actually had space to take a touch and find a ball into the box. Really annoyed me how the midfield seemed to ignore him at times yesterday and I'm not sure why. Pogba was one of the main culprits.

Dalot has certainly shown a weakness in his defending over the course of the season, but the aftermath of the Wolves game is a strange time to bring in up and that was a strange game to reference with respect to your overall point.

He was fine yesterday, no particular lapses or poor choices defensively. Ineffective and, in large swathes, anonymous in attack after being abandoned on his flank, as our right back tends to be.

We need to play Dalot right wing until we can make personnel changes in the summer. Not because he’s not ready to play full back, but because he will best balance the team from the advanced role down that side of the pitch.

Put in a great cross that Lukaku should have scored from but flitted in and out of the game, not bad but looks what he is, an inexperienced young player.

I thought he did well. A nice cross and could also beat his man. Tried his best in a game we should have won.

Although his defending make me worry about him being a right back in a 4 man defense though. Hopefully he can improve since he is very good going forward.

I'd like to see him get an extended run at RB especially after Young's horror show there. If he shows defensive discipline and maturity, I wouldn't mind him becoming our 1st choice RB from next season itself

He made 18 passes all game with a 66% passing rate and barely touched the ball. He may as well not have been there half the time, kept forgetting he even was. Himself and Young were playing the role of one player. He was nowhere near doing well. He did feck all and our whole right side was completely non-existent because he rarely got involved in attacks while not defending either.

I'd like to know what the feck the actual game plan was for the two of them.

I'm guessing he'll end up looking better than this based on how highly he is rated but I'm not sure I see it either, whereas Shaw from game 1 clearly looked a top fullback to me.

Not sure about Dalot's agility, picking a clever pass or defending, but he looks okay running in a straight line and has obvious potential as a crosser and creating from wide.

I read rumours that Solksjaer is looking for a new RB, which can only mean he's pushing Dalot to right wing. Not sure how I feel about that.

He is bit shit defensively but all around not a bad player. I don't see big potential though, he already looks like a decent player in many aspects of the game without showing anything special, so I am not sure how good he can be. I would play him ahead of Young any day of the week though. If we buy good RB I would be happy with him as a rotation option, even as a right winger at times.

Or could mean that he wants a reliable option at right back. Getting a first choice rb with Dalot as a cover and Young being back up for Shaw on the other side would make sense.

I’m willing to bet those stats are similar for every RB since Pogba started being given that free role on the left side of central midfield. All our football goes through him so all our football goes down the left side. The fact we’re so one sided is one of many tricky problems Ole needs to fix and tells us very little about Dalot’s quality.

What did tell us something about his quality was the cross Lukaku should have buried early on and the skill that got him to the byline in the second half. Those were encouraging moments.

Raw at the back so far, defending will improve, his power on ball is there, got a lovely cross in him, got the energy, but needs a bit more, that will come.

He's a good buy I think for the money we paid.

You're willing to bet that our RBs average 18 complete passes a match with only a 66.66% pass completion? What!? Of course they don't.

    Young's recent games
    Watford: 37 complete passes, 77%
    Arsenal: 47 completed, 81%
    PSG: 23 complete, 85%
    Southampton: 49 complete, 76.6%
    Palace: 28 complete, 75.7%

So as expected our RBs don't average anywhere near 18 complete passes or 66.7% completion.

It's not a sign of his quality, it is a sign that he definitely didn't play well like someone above claimed and is just a simple proof of him doing feck all the entire match. More than his quality, it raises the question of wtf was he meant to be doing out there? Why were him and Young sharing the role of one player? He rarely got forward, he offered absolutely no options out the right wing, he didn't do much defending and he spent most of his 83 minutes standing out on the right off screen never getting involved in anything. More than questioning his quality, it is questioning Ole's quality of tactics because what exactly was he meant to be accomplishing all match?

The view on him would have been very different if Lukaku (wasn´t it?) had buried that sitter. That should have been a very nice assist on his CV and people would have praised him for it. Can´t always control your fortune, can you. In the current squad, I absolutely see Dalot as an option at right wing in 4-3-3. He sometimes actually gets past people and gets the ball into the box, while Martial keeps trying.

He was supposed to be accomplishing what a wingback is supposed to accomplish. Obviously.

Now those stats do prove he was less involved than Ashley Young in the same position(ish) but the positive involvements I mentioned (that you’re determined to ignore) show why Ole wanted to give him a crack in that position. I’m ok with watching young players learn on the job, without throwing my toys out the pram if/when they don’t perform as well as a more experienced player might have in their place. Same reason I didn’t follow your lead in consistently shitting on last night’s goalscorer since his very first appearance for the first team.

You’re someone who has always had a keen interest in the reserves/academy. Now it looks like few years without our usual stellar success means you can no longer be bothered with showing a bit of patience for younger players that are still learning the game. And the tactics jibe indicates you’re losing patience with new managers even more quickly.

The post Fergie era has been bringing out the worst in loads of United fans so you’re not alone there. A pity but there you go.
