It’ll be interesting to see a few months of people being on their arse during winter, followed by record profit announcements by the energy companies.

It is, if railways are to become the mainstay of travel in the UK in the future, if railways are to decline as a mainstay transportation system, its the beginning of the end. The Miners Strikes hurried the end of the pits, because the government had already concluded it was going to leave the coal in the ground.
As in most things in life, 'timing is everything'.

i think rail transport is going to become the mainstay of travel globally. highly under invested atm but that's changing elsewhere. it makes too much sense for it not to become the primary mode of mass transport and freight. much more efficient than shipping for freight and much less environmentally damaging for transport.

agree, timing matters. i think time is on their side in this one unlike the miners.
