I have actually just changed my mind about this.
I'd take him. Why? I am just not confident in our midfield. We need reinforcements.

I don't think he will end up moving to one of the top clubs. Can see him ending up at Sevilla or Roma type side.

There's only one United!

We might take a Brooks type of player and end of transfer window for us.
Same old story from our management - take the dividends and not really interested in making United the team it was.

Spanish media claiming Barca are offering 20million plus Suarez for Donny.. Don't think that will be enough for Ajax as the attack is fully stocked already with Tadic Neres Promes Antony Kudus Labyad Traore and Huntelaar.. The midfield is the most worrysome part so I think they would rather get some more money which they can spend on a replacement than another attacker, even if he is World Class..

On the other hand.. I might be wrong when we plan to play Promes on #10 (with Gravenberch and Alvarez/Martinez/Eiting/Marin behind him) which he can very well but will be quite a style change..

2020 is the year we make contact!

Has anything really materialised or seen anything with some substance since that Dutch journalist who is like Simon Stone for Ajax, said we were interested a few weeks back?

I can't be the only one who wished we had Fellaini to hoof the ball to as we so pathetically tried to build out from the back against Leicester and Southampton. I'd take Fellaini back in a second.

I agree. Dont see him as a Real Madrid or United player myself. I like him but not a signing that excites me in terms of a starter.

He has all the attributes to become top midfielder. I don't know why people are so lukewarm about him. I think he will end up at Barcelona or Madrid. United should be looking to make a transfer this year.

yeah I find it weird people dont want him or rate him . for me buy him and Sancho and that is a very strong transfer window. He is quality .

I just don’t see us going for him now Pogba is staying. If we get him, we’ll be too “top heavy” in midfield. We need centre mids more in the Matic role or a box to box.

He could probably play the latter but I just can’t see it.

The lad has the ability to play at a higher level and at 40m represents good value so why is he not sold yet? Because I suspect there is only one club he is prepared to leave Ajax for and it's in Spain.....plus he is not going to come here to sit on the bench. He's not a CDM....

Amazed he's still at Ajax. Thought he would be one of the first stars to leave. Can do it all in midfield.

Would be great in the press and could fill in for Bruno and Pogba. His positioning and passing near and in the box is so creative. Reminds me of how Thomas Mueller currently plays but can also play deeper. Replaces Mata, Lingard and Pereira and will be cheaper than Grealish. I am all in

Yes yes yes. Also I think he could deputize for Matic against weaker team. He's an excellent player.

I still reckon that if we had a proper team and a proper manager who used him properly (ie. an impact player off the bench or given a specific role to play) he would have gone down as a cult hero here. But because he was relied on to be a regular starter (which he was never good enough to be at a top team) he almost became the face off our struggles. I'll always have a bit of a soft spot for him.

He played alright in a 4-3-3 but we often played a 4-2-3-1 and having him so deep in midfield was stupid and a waste of his abilities.

He didn't have a great pass on him, he was big and slow to turn and couldn't accelerate quickly. You have to wonder what the coaches saw?

Whenever we played him closer to goal though he was much more effective. I didn't mind Fellaini at all in the right cercumstances, he made a great super sub.

He'd be a good back up to Fernandes and could play the box to box role alongside Pogba. I think as a squad player he'd be a good replacement for Pereira and Lingard.

Hed be a very good signing. Doesn't make our best 11 stronger but allows us to rest Bruno or Pogba without a serious drop off in quality. I think we will have to rotate a lot this coming season.

I love Van De Beek.

I think he'd work well in a 3 with Pogba and Fernandes too. It would be very tough to get the ball from them and you could expect us to make a lot of chances for the front 3.

Fellaini regularly played well whenever he was given a very specific role to play. Whether that was an attacking role to really focus on hitting them in one spot or a specific defensive role to cover an opposition player (or even as basically a third central defender at one stage), he consistently put in good performances. He simply was nowhere near good enough to play as a run-of-the-mill central midfielder though, and unfortunately (for him and for us) that's where he was normally played.

From the admittedly little that I've seen of him, I think he'd be a great signing for us at a seemingly reasonable price. Makes a lot of sense so I doubt it happens.

I'd like him a lot. I actually think a Pogba, VDB and Bruno midfield would be alright.

Amazed we arent acting quicker.

He's a great player and instantly improves the quality around the squad.

He;d challenge Pogba for a starting spot - he's certainly got a better engine and is better pressing than Pogba. He'd easily be above Fred and McTom in the pecking order, Matic wont last a full season.

We need better quality around midfield and 40mil for this kind of quality is a bargain in todays market.

I wanted us to sign him last summer as well - he's exactly the calibre of player we need

Who's he like? Would he be like Herrera type?
I would say so yes. Hes Got an engine that's for sure. He can pass and gets forward too. Hes probably better in front of goal than Herrera which is why i would he's thought of as an all rounder type midfielder.

If DVB came in it would still leave the AM light in options unless Pogba played there more with Donny as b2b.

Thanks sounds like he could work well for us and a decent price, we'll now buy Ozil for 40M instead :D

No it wouldn't. Against a half decent team we'd get battered as none of them are defensive enough.

Against a team camped in their half I'd agree it would work pretty well.

Pogba n Bruno can't play every game. If we sign VDB we have 3 very good players for 2 roles and can rotate. And occasionally play all 3 at once if we are playing a dross team with no intent on attacking us.

Defending isn't done by individuals anymore, it's all about pressing. Gone are the days of having a specialist defender and a specialist attacker, you've got to be able to do both.

If Bayern can win the CL with Thiago and Goretzka as a CM pairing there's no reason we can't play Pogba and DVB with Fernandes ahead.

I like him but I don't think CM is anything like a priority right now personally. If we get a back up no.10 it only makes sense to me that he should also be able to play as a forward or winger. Unless we have loads of wedge of course. But we could do with a centre half still and we're very light on the wings and up top. The only midfield position that should clearly be strengthened is DM and I don't really see Van Der Beek as a DM personally, although I'm sure he could do a job.

Yeah, I'm not saying it being our starting XI against Liverpool, but I think we'd be able to keep possession well enough and be creative with those 3.
