Thrashing team by 4 to 5 goals for fun. They are 3rd with 1/3 of the season gone. What is impressive is they have only just started with no big name signing yet. Even City needed at least 2 years to get into top 3. It would be pretty impressive if Newcastle could do this in a season.

The quick revival, from being in the relegation zone more than halfway into last season to where they are now, as been excellent regardless of how much money they've spent (and they've not exactly spent obscene amounts of money in the modern day market).

It's the defensive record and only conceding 11 goals that is especially surprising. Howe's Burnley and Bournemouth teams were known for conceding goals left, right and centre (my Burnley supporting friends do credit him with a series of excellent signings that helped them get promoted under Dyche

At Bournemouth, I thought it was clear that he took on too big a personal responsibility seemingly having control of every area, which increasingly drained him and weighed him down by his time there. During his final couple of years there, he had a major role in identifying transfer targets and signings as their transfer budget noticeably increased, and ultimately delivered a series of expensive flops. So it was clear then that he was far more suited to a head coach role working with a director of football. Under that environment, and of course with better players and far more money available, he is thriving.

He did have a major role in signings at Burnley, and his record with a far more frugal budget there was excellent with him wanting and landing the likes of Shackell, Mee, Trippier, Vokes and Ings who played a major role in their first promotion under Dyche.

Doping… when Miguel Almiron, Sean Longstaff and Joelinton become exceptional overnight there is no other conclusion to come to.

Newcastle has the third best Goal Difference in the league and scored 28 goals, which is only behind City and Arsenal. It also conceded the least along side with Arsenal at 11 goals. It is no fluke.

They're no longer fighting against the gravitational pull of Steve Bruce.

Can't knock what howe has done in less than 12 months, we have seen managers at united post fergie get big budgets on top of inheriting talented players and failed to look as lethal in both attack and defence like what howe has done with Newcastle, it's so easy to forget the good job he did in turning their season around last season as well when they looked doomed

He's done fecking well without going total gangbusters with transfers, which they'll inevitably do. Pretty irritating all things considered.

Was always a class manager Howe.

Unless you judge him from his Burnley days 10 years ago.

They are very physical and run non stop but their playing style is nothing special.

Shame the ESL didn't go through, it would've saved us from rubbish like this.

I have not seen anything special while they played with us and I watched Chelsea game to see why people are praising them but from apart from a lot of running and pressing can’t see much here. The goal against Chelsea was really accidental.

They waste time like like athleti and have similar thugs to them (Burn). Could this be Simeone’s next job?

Id say the most impressive thing is they've done this without actually needing to spend money that they couldn't spend before. Guimaraes only went there due to the promise of spending of course (even though financially they could've afforded him before), and Isak was a big signing (though hasn't played a big part yet). But Howe has gotten a lot out of what he had and built a solid as feck side. The Atletico Madrid style to counter the bigger sides who are all building in a similar way.

Unfortunately they are real top 4 competitors. I still think they'll fall off this season, but they are riding a high right now with no European distractions.

I asked my Burnley supporting friends about Howe's time there, and they thought it was OK, not a huge success but not a failure either. They agree that he was definitely an improvement compared to his predecessor Brian Laws.

They finished 8th and 13th in the Championship under him, so neither amazing nor particularly bad. However he personally played a major part in the club identifying signing Shackell, Mee, Trippier, Vokes and Ings at bargain prices, who all played a major role in the club's first promotion under Dyche. He also played a major part in them signing Charlie Austin who was prolific and left for QPR during the summer of 2013.

They've bought 6 of the players who started today for over 150m, and that's not counting the obscene wages they are likely giving the likes of Botman, Bruno and Trippier. He's doing very well but the money is responsible for at least 70% of their success this season.

Newcastle stole Chris Wood, Dan Burn and Nick Pope under the noses of the big 6 with their new wealth. :D

In all seriousness, Trippier is the highest earning player at NUFC. He would be the 13th highest paid player at MUFC just as an example. Bruno and Isak get roughly one third of the pay of the likes of De Gea, Sancho and Varane. That 150m that started today isn't enough to get Maguire and Sancho.

Money helps but what NUFC has spend so far in fees and wages is nothing compared to the big 6. Eddie Howe has been simply amazing.

They have brought well, most of their players brought recently have lived up to their fees, even joelinton ain't looking like an expensive flop anymore, compare that to the 250+ million ole wasted on expensive flops.

Never know we could see arsenal win the title this season instead of City and then at this rate come next season Newcastle will beat City to being the number 1 sports washing side in the league.

They are the in-form team in the league, at the moment.

They have scored 21 goals in their last 8 games in the PL and only conceded 4 goals. They have won 7 and drawn 1 of those last 8, and those games include Tottenham, Manutd and Chelsea.

They have played 5 of the top 6 and have come away with 2 wins, 2 draws and 1 loss.

Howe is showing he is a great manager. No manager would have done better than this (they would likely do far worse) - dream appointment for them, so far.

Having a spell of great form, but everyone is so quick to dish out praise and then take it back a few weeks later thesedays.

No one ever won anything after 14 games of a season...let's see where they end up come the end. (Same goes for Arteta)

Sure. But they have some very good conditions now. Crowd is well up for and behind them. The team is building its chemistry. No Europa distraction. And there is no way the owners won't spend as much as they can to help get them CL qualification over the line given where they are in the table.

End of that game just cemented how unlikeable they are now as a club.

Genuinely thought the ref was a joke. Felt like a Sunday league game the amount he let go.

To be fair Newcastle's form from January last season was top 4 as well.

I'd imagine they'd strengthen quite a bit in January, probably finally get Maddison and a couple others. They've still mainly got a championship level squad at the moment.

Time will tell.

Personally, I think they will finish around 5-7 which will be a good season for them.

He's doing a brilliant job, regardless of what you may feel about Newcastle's time wasting he's got them hard to beat (only lost 1 league game all season), defensively strong and on the ball (not so much tonight) they play with decent quality

Credit where it's due

He's doing genuinely perfect job so far. He's reinvigorated some players who had been rather mediocre before. Joelinton and Almiron for example are playing the best football of their careers right now. They've bought smart too and the team is, both defensively and offensively, really drilled and well coached.

Not enough is said in the media about how they play the game, they should be called out for it.

I'd probably put him as the best performing manager in the league, at the moment.

Taking them from relegation candidates to top-four candidates in a year is ridiculous.

The time wasting at the end there was scandalous. Makes you wonder whether they were onto something with the added time at the World Cup

He’s doing an unprecedented good job, but he is able to bring a £70m striker on as a sub to win the game.

Anyone thinking we have an easy ride to the Carabao cup will be in for a rude awakening. They're a horrible side to play against, plus their shithouserry Is perfect for a final. Really hope Southampton somehow manage to get a result against them.

It's not even a question anymore. But separately, and I include atletico in this, Newcastle are the worst team I've ever seen for it. Most teams do it to some degree but they're a law unto themselves now and it's becoming a farce
