I think he will score goals for us but does that mean we’re not getting Sancho?
I doubt it.
The wages which were due to go to Sancho, are now going to Cavani.
It would not make sense to sign 2 players, who are going to get paid £200kpw, each. Can only afford one such player.

Not really. Smalling + Pereira + Dalot + Ighalo (In 3 months) is way more than Cavani will be earning.

Says who? You?
It's logic, mate. We don't have a bottomless pit of money.
I know it hurts and you are frustrated, but I am not the guy you should be frustrated at.
If I had my choice it would be Sancho we sign, not Cavani, but sadly the board see it differently.

The club aren't going to let 200k+/week of players be unregistered and they're certainly not going to want to pay off the contracts.
Our fans think we can just throw money around like it's nothing.

Apparently 200k a week is nothing and it's okay to spend it on a bench player. An almost 34 year old injury prone bench player, who hasn't played competitive football since March or April.

We gave Phil Jones a new contract. Don't think there is a player that our "specialists" will deem not fit enough at this point.
What does a contract renewal have to do with a medical for a new signing? Since when were the former subject to medicals?

What a clown fiesta, if Ole gives a green light for this... headless chicken moves but its not something new for us.

Got to be honest I’m a bit shocked at this one. Never saw it coming and really don’t know how it’s going to pan out, smacks of panic obviously and for me only confirms that Sancho is dead...not literally dead as in deceased, just as in transfer terms....if he had died with his “respiratory” problems that would surely of been the nail in the coffin for that transfer though to be honest Ed and judge would probably of still have negotiated a deal and proudly told the world how we got him for 70m, I mean we extended Phil jones contract so what’s the difference

It might mean the opposite, depending on how we are working our budget. If the intention was always to sign a centre forward, and we had allocated a budget for that, then getting Cavani pretty much for free could help us in other positions.

Who knows though really

If you can't fathom why we gave Jones a new deal then you're just as daft as you claim everyone else to be.

Protecting the value of the asset. Simple as that. If we ever hope to get a fee out of him then we need to have at least some leverage.

If he has trouble breathing then I'd be worried that he was about to join Liverpool.

Personally not as upset about this as some, but there is a high risk of being a Falcao/Sanchez repeat. Dreading finding out what kind of wages we are paying him...

On the other hand, quality depth in the forward positions is a good thing. I'm one of the few that thinks Ighalo is massively overrated by many on here and will contribute little if anything this season. The problem is how last-minute this is, and how out of step it feels with our broader transfer policy over the last 18 months.

When was the last time Cavani participated in a proper training? Or played a match? I fear it's going to be a long time before he's just about fit. He's been a world class player, but I'm not sure he's good enough anymore. At the very least, he is an improvement over Ighalo.

I actually feel he’s a better option than Ighalo who will be leaving in a few months and that’s how it should be viewed. I think Cavani is an upgrade on him.
I’d be pretty happy with Cavani, Telles and Sancho. I really hope we do this on deadline day. One can hope.

Disappointing move. So much for building a new squad for many years to come rather than trying for instant success with older players, both this and Ighalo are bad moves from Ole.
Ole?

Doesn't feel like an Ole deal at all. Feels like an Ed 'couldn't get what you wanted so here have this guy' Woodward special.

I could be wrong but I don't see how he'll fit in your squad. Your attackers like short passes in tights spaces and would really take advantage of a forward they can interract with. It's the opposite of Cavani. Give him the ball and you'll never see it again (but he might score if he doesn't have to control it).

I'm worried this will be another Falcao-style signing, please prove me wrong.

£8m in wages for 1 year, plus £8m in agent fees.

It's the equivalent of paying £2m in wages (or £40k per week) plus £14m in transfer fees: about what you'd spend for a mediocre player from the Championship or Portugal or the Eredivisie.

It's a cheap punt that will be worth it if he scores a handful of goals whilst giving Martial a break every now and then.

There's no downside to this. He's coming to give Ole 4 options from which to pick a front 3. Next season, we'll buy Sancho to give us the fourth option instead. In the meantime, Cavani will be here simply to keep his seat warm.

The price makes it more than worth it. The whole package is costly roughly what it would cost to pay Sancho £300k per week for one year alone.

Falcao was signed to be first choice and played even when his form was shit.

Cavani is being signed as an alternative to our current CF. He'll only play if he's earned it.
