It's mental how stupid these feckers are. They're going to stick Fletcher in to give themselves some time to get the replacement, literally a day after a 2 week international break ended.

Im intrigued by at what point a manager become obviously unfit for a job, whilst all his players manage to retain their reputations? Surely if the players had continued to bail him out (as many have been claiming they’ve done for a while now) then his job wouldn’t be on the line, and half this forum would be complaining about spoilt fans who can’t see the fighting spirit he’s instilled in the club?

Did the same hold true of Jose’s meltdown season? Or Moyes? Or was that entirely on them?

Genuine question. What’s the ideal situation whereby everyone agrees it’s time for Ole to leave, but no one blames the players? What does that look like?
Another poster who says blame the players … the driver of the bus is ole , this is his team , his squad his wheel so to speak and at the moment the driver ( ole) is drunk and needs to be removed
If the new manager sees similar traits in the players he should make moves , but this is all on ole

Even the incompetent barca board manged to do it. Sacked right before the international break.

It really took them 5 f*cking hours to decide to sack the biggest joke in the league?
It took me a month to purchase my current laptop and I was the only deliberating. I would need a year to be ready to part ways with the millions Ole is going to get.

I'm sure the initial plan is Fletcher taking charge of Villareal while we try sort a proper replacement.

And yes, anyone but Ole is better. The negative energy in the camp needs lifting, you can only do that by removing the manager. It literally can't get any worse.
Did they not just have four weeks since the Liverpool game? What they hell were they a doing in that time? Anyone remotely competent could see where this was heading.

at least Darren Fletcher isnt as much a legend at the club, has no real goal scoring exploits to fall back on to claim his status as Mr Man Utd.

The players have tomorrow off and play on Tuesday. 1 day to find someone to manage Villereal, it was always gonna be Fletcher or Carrick.

It's pretty standard for somebody inside a club to takeover when a game is only 2 days away after a sacking.

What other alternative is there?
Don't apply reason or logic here, they don't understand it.

Fletch will not want the gig full time … may this be the last of past players getting involved and us turning caretakers into 500 million dollar spenders

People kicking off over Fletcher

Finally got what you wanted and now moaning about the interim manager! I'm sure this is just a short term situation. We have a game round the corner a new manager won't be hired in time for that.

Is he really an upgrade on Ole?
He isn't.
BUT, at least we get rid of Ole and know that a new manager (after Fletcher) is incoming and he'll remove Carrick and McKenna who have been pretty useless. Those 2 have worked under Jose (when things went wrong) and now Ole.

I'm not defending our board. He should never have been given the job in the first place and should have been sacked 5 times by now.

He should have gone after Liverpool at the absolute latest, and if they couldn't get their ideal candidate during that time (Zidane, Ten Hag, whoever), they should have given it to Conte who was begging for it. Now we're in a pickle, but I do think there must be a few competent managers out there who would take the job till the summer on interim basis, if we can't convince Zidane. It just should have been sorted weeks ago, like you said.

Fletcher like SAF and Sir Matt Busby is scottish. You know that success is coming.

PS Moyes actual nationality is still in question.

It’s been a long slog for united Fans, we’ve suffered in silence, trying to support a legend however deep down we all knew Ole was and will never be an Elite Manager, he should take time out and then manage Norway.

An Elite Board would have dismissed him after the Europa League defeat, our clowns rewarded him with a new contract!
An Elite board would have appointed Pochetino last Christmas when he was available!

Our shambles of a board then had a third chance to redeem themselves with a truly Top 5 in the world manager named Conte, but if we are to believe the press, player power said no to that, we don’t want to run more than we currently do and our squad doesn’t fit his style so we the current inept owners who run this great club passed on the one guy with this squad who could have took on Klopp, Tuchel and Guardiola!

Now we are chasing a dream of appointing Zidane who is currently 6/4 on favourite to be our next manager, he’s not coming, nope not a chance because why on Earth would he want to work with the clowns who currently run the club and even if he said yes , whose to say he could turn this behemoth of great club around!
I for one, think even Klopp and Pep would struggle with the inept fools who currently run Manchester United !

That is all well and good, but we just had a 2 week International break, how have they not come up with a serious contingency in that time? It's not like they have any reason to be surprised and have to scramble in order to find someone in a days time. They have supposedly been discussing a sacking since Liverpool - you'd think they at one point would have thought about these things.

We don't know that though.

We have no idea who the new manager will be and what he'll do with the coaching staff.

We need him to get rid of everyone, whether that happens is another matter.

Exactly!
They had 2 weeks to deal with the change of manager, but they messed that up. Now they are panicking trying to get a replacement manager in, for our next game and because there isn't enough time, they'll have to use Fletcher, who has no experience.
If I told you that this would be happening, you probably wouldn't believe me.
The incompetence of this board is almost unbelievable. IMO, some of the board members should be fired for gross misconduct.

Until they sell up, there's really no hope at all, sadly.

Do our women's and youth teams not have a manager who could act as interim, with their assistants taking their games for this week until we hire a proper caretaker? Would the rules allow that to happen?

Our women seem to be doing quite well and their coach is actually someone who is current so more up to date with the game, has Fletcher ever even coached?

That's IF Ole has been sacked, I won't trust it until an official announcement by the club.

If we bring in a big name (and it's almost a dead certainty that that'll be the case), Carrick, McKenna and Phelan will be given tieir marching orders. Carrick and McKenna have been terrible under 2 managers and the new manager will not want those 2 around after he arrives.

How is he worse? You realise that he’s just a placeholder?
....because at least Ole has experience. Fletcher is a complete newbie with no managerial experience.
We need to hope that a new manager comes in quickly (ie. to relieve Fletcher of his duties).
