Can/does Mount play central midfielder? I thought he was more of an attacking midfielder?
With 3 cbs and rice who will just sit it's worth ago imo it also let's us use another top player higher up.

Lingard would be a waste. The likelihood is that Foden, Mount and Sterling start in behind Kane and all of Grealish, Sancho and Rashford (and probably Saka) are coming off the bench ahead of him.
I am not sure Sterling starts, I would rather Grealish or Sancho.

Sterling clearly shouldn't start, but does anyone really have any faith that we won't revert to type. Southgate is talking big about he will pick players on form, the proof will be in the pudding though and Sterling and Rashford shouldn't start if that's the case. I suspect at least one of them will though.

If everyone is fit I'd play:

Pickford
James Maguire Stones Chilwell
Rice Bellingham
Mount
Foden Sancho
Kane

But I highly doubt we will go with that. It also seems unlikely Maguire is going to be fit for the opening game which is a big concern as I don't fancy either Coady or Mings to replace him, and not sure if you can really play Walker CB in a 4, and on top of that I don't want us to play a 5 either as we never looked good playing like that in the Nations League last year.

Not Shaw?

All that nonsense in the media only for him to miss out anyway through injury.

Shame for Trent, although I'm convinced Southgate didn't really trust him, and I doubt he would've played much in the Euros

After watching that game last night I must admit I'm not really pumped up to watch the tournament

JWP or White is what I'd expect. White came on in that defensive midfield role last night so think Southgate will go for the extra cover both at the back and in midfield that he'll offer.

I'd personally go JWP or Lingard as they offer something different.

"You and your paper can feck off."
If he has a brain he'd take the opportunity to correct his balls up and call up a competent third choice CB.

Then again if he had one he wouldn't have called up Mings and Coady in the first place.

It’s clearly a shame for TAA. I don’t wish injury on anyone, but it does now give us an opportunity to get a better balance in the squad.

I would take Godfrey over White. I suspect he will take JWP though since we have Coady and Mings as CB cover already (and the likes of Walker, Shaw and Rice who can do a job) even though they are shit.

Also whats Maddison up to? Is it just because he has been in bad form? Because if so that rule doesnt seem to have been applied elsewhere.

Gutted for him tbh, but I hope Southgate fills the vacated spot with player in a different position.

Yeah don’t like to see players missing tournaments through injuries.
He might not even be the last player to be ruled out through injury after such a long season.
So when will Southgate select a new player?

Southgate has never been that keen on him, plus he's had injuries and poor form. It's always more difficult to apply that rule where there isn't great depth in a position (e.g. CB and midfield).

With TAA out I would bring Lingard in.
Also send Henderson home, He's not fit. Get James Ward-Prowse in there.

It's just that Mount, Grealish and Foden are all better than him. As long as they're fit there's really no space for him in the squad.

Lingard in?
All the drama whether he will be selected or not, Carragher going on a huge rant, Liverpool journalists simulating FM to show how great TAA is and then this happened after Southgate showing middle finger to 'Squad balance" and going with all RBs.

He is still very young, so he will be part of many teams. Poor guy, it happened in the last few mins of the game too.

You think he would play?

Well stocked in that position - he’d be behind Mount, Foden, Grealish, Rashford, Sterling and Sancho.

I’d go Ward-Prowse (short of midfielders and his set piece ability) or White (better than Coady/Mings and can cover DM).

Personally I think the attack should be.

Foden——Grealish——Rashford
———————Kane————————

Thats the best possible combination of technical ability combined with pace. I think Rashford has been really poor recently but he historically performs very well for England and he’s the only genuine pace this side has.

Shaw has to start. He’s been levels above Chilwell this season. Only caveat to that is in a back 5 where Chillwell is probably a better wingback.

Would be White for me as can cover CB & DM (never seen him play there though) and then there is Godfrey who can play all along the backline, if JWP didn't possess such top drawer set piece delivery and without TAA we definitely lack quality in that department but honestly couldn't call which way Gareth goes on this one at all.

JWP for me. Good player allround, world class dead ball specialist.

But Southgate will take someone else i think.

It was silly to carry 3 right backs in the first place but why was he still playing in the 90th minute?

Now England are left with a 30 yr old right back and a relatively inexperienced Reece James at the international level.

Southgate really is a muppet when it comes to squad selection and man management

one of which just starred in a CL final, one won the league with Athletico Madrid - and you forgot about Walker.

nothing to criticise him for here.

There’s lots of speculation about who is going to replace him - but when does the decision need to be made?

I presume a medical report needs to be signed off by UEFA to confirm that he’s actually injured.

I think the squad can be changed till England's first game.
