Some wickets would be nice here to make the match exciting.

Fantastic knock from Burns. Hopefully boosts his confidence to new levels.

Looks like England may have found a proper test opener for next few series.

We've already had the wickets to make it exciting, particularly with the new ball coming up. England need a solid first innings lead to keep the match exciting, otherwise Lyon should clean up in the 4th innings.

Was Ben Stokes' defensive game always this good?

He has always had a very solid technique, but seems to be playing with greater application since his trial.
For a while I’ve thought Root at 3 and Stokes at 4 would be very formidable. Denly doesn’t look up to it so would be tempted to put Vince at 6, against the softer ball he could be more effective.

Very good day for England.

Need to push on tomorrow, keep on grinding and get a decent lead.

Brilliant effort by Burns, didn't look in great nick all innings but just battled through.

This is such a shite game in the Blast and there's some tasty fixture being played today.

Did well for a limited player just what was needed. Maybe he can get a partner like him this series.

Possibly a long term option if Stokes becomes a specialist batsman. He’s recently said that he doesn’t want to bat in the top 5 whilst also bowling. Curran could end up being the all rounder the way he’s batting right now.

Have Northants hired a dietitian? They used to have 7-8 proper fat blokes in their lineup.
Was it the year they won it that they had Levi and Kleinveldt as their two overseas? Proper cricket side that.

Fair. Kallis managed to bat at 4 and bowl a bit. He might not want to, but he might have to.

He probably won’t given he asked to move from 5 to 6 for the Ashes. Think we’ll probably see Roy eventually come down to 4.

Are you serious? Of course it's relevant.

The Aussies have set the bar with the way their players and fans have behaved for several years. Broad was practically abused out of the country for doing something which was within the laws of the game. English players routinely talk about the abuse they get from the stands, and the new documentary about the England team shows it in graphic detail.

On the field the Aussies have consistently pushed the boundaries, whether it be c-bombing people constantly, dropping balls on people when they're run out or mocking people for having stress-related illnesses.

Sorry pal but the Aussies are just getting a taste of their own medicine after years of dishing it out. You might not like it but that's the way it is.

Also, some points about Stokes. 1) it happened miles away from the cricket field, 2) a couple of gay guys said in court that he was defending them and 3) he was punished for it. If the Aussies want to boo him when he next goes down under, they can go right ahead.
It's irrelevant to my point as the crowd doesn't represent me, nor I the crowd. What they did has literally no impact on my statement. Surely you will understand that? It shouldn't be this hard to wrap your head around.

Booing anyone when they reach a milestone is pathetic. That's my opinion.

Good on him for defending some gay gents. Doesn't excuse the act of coward punching someone. At least when Warner smacked Root for being racist towards Amla he did it to his face.

They're both idiots for doing what they did.
Australia were massive cnuts for years that would dish it out constantly and then when anyone gave them anything back they'd act outraged and decide the "line" had been overstepped. Warner is an absolute prime example of that, happy to insult De Kocks family but apoplectic when De Kock brought Warners family into it.

The sandpaper thing was less about the act of them actually cheating and more a chance for everyone to unload on Australia for years of twattery.

We had the actual Australian coach instructing fans to boo Stuart Broad and make him cry because he didn't walk, which no Australian bar Gilchrist has done for about 40 years. If the roles were reversed and Rory Burns had been caught cheating then made his ton yesterday down under he'd have been getting booed all series too.

I don't mind it. The typeface Aus are using looks clunky though.

This has been a really excellent test match pitch. Something in it for the seam bowlers, something in it for the batsman, and will be something in it for the spinners too. Think England need a lead of at least 150, you don't want to be chasing too many last here.

I can see Denly or Root bowling a fair few in the second innings.

Is Smith the only second spin option Aus have?

Weather also isn’t looking great tomorrow and Monday, Monday especially could lose a lot of play.

Anything more than a 100 and England are favs I think.

Wicket as I type it and the game back in balance when I was thinking England ahead.

Wouldn't be surprised to see bairstow waft at one, get bowled and set the cat amongst the pigeons.

Bairstow has been horrendous in red ball cricket in the last 18 months. Particularly in England, he needs some runs.

Started nervously here.
