It seems like Etienne Capoue is coming to Spurs, if the reports are to be believed.

If so, and given that he can also play in the CB position (aside from DM), I'd imagine that the sale by Spurs of Caulker to Cardiff is a part of the reasoning here.

I'd also imagine that at least one - and probably two - from Parker, Livermore and Huddlestone would become odds-on for leaving.

"The international midfielder Toulouse Football Club Etienne Capua should engage with the club Tottenham. Time tracked by Cardiff and Atlético Madrid, Capua will eventually go towards London. Indeed, Spurs and TFC have agreed on the transfer, which would go beyond the 10 million claimed by Toulouse. Joined by RMC Sport, president of TFC Olivier Sadran confirmed this information. "He will go," he said. The player is close to an agreement but there are still some details to be finalized."

Weren't Arsenal after him? Wenger will be amused. Spurs spending plenty this summer, must be the Bale money.

More than anything Spurs need a goal-scoring winger if Bale is to leave (now that they've finally signed a striker).

Poor from Spurs. Selling their biggest CB talent and replacing him with a makeshift CB (although Capoue is a good player) for a larger fee is just stupid. That's a lot of money to be spent in a window considering they've only made £13m from departing players.

Caulker wasn't our "biggest CB talent". He was well-rated by many, but Kaboul, Vertonghen and Dawson were all ahead of him in the pecking order. And I'd be surprised if we don't also sign a new specialist CB before the window closes.

We booked a hotel for him to stay at in January so he could sign. Don't know what happened to him.

But this is Spurs' transfer policy and has been for many a year. Check out who Arsenal once held an interest in and go after it.

It's not a bad transfer policy for them - we should have got Bale, Lloris and Vertonghen.
Those 3 are highly rated players whom every top club in the world were looking at.

I would assume he meant talent as in young talent, ie Spurs most promising young player at centreback, rather than best centreback at the club. Like Jones or Smalling would be our biggest (young) CB talent.

You couldn't stop harping on about Caulker last season.

Under vilas-boas too? From what I've read of him, he comes across as an obsessive workaholic who uses facts and research to make decisions.

Looking like it's only a matter of time,Spurs looking strong even with the possible loss of Bale.

He's a very good player, competent at CB and great in midfield. I was hoping we'd be interested but I doubt we even know that he exists.

If, by some miracle, Spurs can hold on to Bale, they will have as good a team as any in the League.

Agreed. I'm not sure why we never expressed any interest in Capoue.

All done now.

With Huddlestone gone, Parker about to go and Livermore gone on loan, this leaves us with a very strong set of CMs: Sandro, Dembele, Paulinho and Capoue, plus Sigurdsson, Holtby and Tom Carroll.

Will we add a more creative attacking midfielder to the list before the window closes? Someone like Pjanic from Roma perhaps? It could be.

Still think you need another quick winger to replace Lennon if he is injured, but apart from that its a very strong looking squad.

Yeah, I followed him for a couple of seasons after he was initially linked to Barcelona. A leader as well which you can never have too many of

Spurs are making some very good signings this Summer. If they don't lose Bale they could do really well next year, especially with the lack of strengthening from 3 out of 4 of last seasons top 4 clubs.
