If Arsenal had gone down to 10 they would've capitulated. Shows how important defending is. A solid defence will always give you a chance and that's what Atletico did. They managed to keep Arsenal to the 1 goal and I'm sure 1-0 would've been a good result for them in the circumstances. They were protecting the 1-0. To get 1-1 is actually fantastic.
Atletico could won that game if they attack bit more. More often than not Mustafi or Kos leaved alone in almost halfway line only to Atletico not bother to attack.

Typical Arse. Now let those minority who still think they're playing good football talk about stats and ignore the result as usual.

Ref could have easily stopped the play and booked Welbeck for diving before the goal

Atletico are going to nick a goal then defend for the rest of the game next week. It's the most predictable game of the tournament.

They couldn't really take any chances. There was a gap on the right hand side of the defence that Arsenal kept trying to go through. Griezmann was forced back to defend on that side which meant he couldn't pressurize the Arsenal centre backs like he usually would've done. The one time he got into that position Koscielny fecked up luckily for them.

They just could defend all game for not concede and still go to final. Whatever choice they make, its win win solution for them

If he followed the rule book to the letter, shame it's Arsenal players. His goodwill went on to waste. Never fail to amaze, Arsenal

Arsenal are all done. No swansong for Wenger.
Looking at their remaining games, this could be the dampest of damp squibs for Wenger's farewell. Not sure they're going to get much change out of any of their remaining opponents - so they'll need to lift themselves.

They hardly concede at all, they have only let in 18 goals in La Liga this year. Amazing figure especially when you consider how offensive the league is considered.
Yeah, 18 goals this season and they probably wont concede more than one or two more with the remaining fixtures. Two seasons ago they conceded 18 only too.

Their problem earlier in the season was silly draws and they missed a bit of quality up front because Costa wasn't registered and Griezmann was off form. If they'd have had either Costa or him in form I think they'd be a favorable home result from the Champions League final right now. The only team to defeat them in a knockout game in the last 5 years is Real Madrid who've had probably the most successful club spell in Europe of the last 50 years.

Thats the difference between clubs like Barcelona and Arsenal. When the ref favours Barca they kill the game.

Arsenal should sacrifice the weekend game and just rest those players to focus on the away leg

You can bet your house on a 0-0 draw in the return leg. Typical Arsenal.

Wenger out

rubbish , both worth yellow cards , so what of it is a semi Final , what difference does it make , first round Semi Final or 90th min of a Final.
What the ref has not done is be consistent, 2 maybe 3 Arsenal players should have been booked also.
Sometimes you need to be a bit lenient considering it’s the 10th minute of the game, otherwise you would see sending offs in every second game. Both of the fouls were yellows but refs should show a bit more understanding of the game, one was a tactical foul and the second was a late challenge, nothing malicious. Setting that kind of precedent he should have sent couple of other players too, which he didn’t.

Almost impossible for Arsenal to progress now. How can they beat an 11 man Atletico in Spain when they couldn't beat a 10 man Atletico in England? They need to go there and score goals which is probably the toughest place to go to when you need goals. Focus will be on Koscielny but it goes a lot deeper than that. Everything was predictable. They made it easy for Athletico. And to not even make a sub or have the option to make one in the semi final of a Europa League is disgraceful.

For the sake of the children, don't. I don't trust this Arsenal to keep clean sheet. Even as dominant and against 10 men Atletico, they could concede, they're not to concede away from home is a pipe dream

2 early goals for Atletico, then they park the bus for an hour and Arsenal pass sideways doing nothing.

Diego Simmone showing he is a top manager once again. The guy is like having an extra player on the pitch. People who say he's too similar to Mourhino make me laugh. He is no way like him.
Fans who say Utd have to go for an attacking coach haven't got a clue. If that's the road Utd take, then they will be getting the 3rd best attacking coach in the world at best, because Klopp and Pep are 1 and 2. If Utd want the best manager that is not a one trick pony, Simmone is the man! He is the only one who can stop Klopp and pep dominating English football.

1 long ball over the top and Arsenal's defense crumbles. Arsenal for all their sophistication get undone by route-1 football.
Real comedy of errors.

Obviously Kos not clearing main issue but poorly executed offside trap.

Also think Mugstafi would've probably got to the rebound before Greizmann if he hadn't slipped.

No, he was following the rules. Nothing pathetic about that. Should have been more consistent after that though!
What fecking rules does tell refs to send off a player for a tactical foul in the 2nd minute and a mistimed challenge in the 10th? He is there to manage the game and show understanding of it, not just throw yellows for the first two fouls, if he followed the rules he should have sent off couple of others.

Keown's blaming the defence, but I felt Arsenal should have killed the game way before Griezmann had his chance. Terrible defending, mind.

Monreal was at fault in the first instance as he wasn't keeping the defensive line. Koscielny was also at fault for not closing down Griezemann fast enough and Mustafi would always be Mustafi.

Yep pretty much everyone made a mistake in their back line. Monreal not playing offside trap, Mustafi a mile away from Koscielny meaning he can't recover the space, Koscileny with a piss poor clearance. Ospina also came out very strangely.
