Also true. Who the feck wants to play Chelsea 4 times in a season!? We did that the other year and it was hardly great shakes.
I'm listening....Still..... Good news about the chocolate oranges.
Do they have to be in the same group?Or worse.... Spurs. Too many English clubs involved.
La Liga have already been doing it to suit the asian audience.Wonder how long it'll take to have kick off times to suit Asian TV/viewing audience?
Or to play some games in other countries... The Man United Globetrotters.
Or sell United as a franchise and relocate them.
The longer this goes on, the more I think up stupid things. Bed
Thats the thing. They will sort all of that out in the short term. The main thing is, its a coup of UEFA. The big clubs are clearly not happy with them and in truth they have a right not to be. I think an agreement will eventually be made or a new governing body will be created, but for all the top clubs to come together like this, it has to be for far more reasons that simply greed. The issue is who owns the fundamental rights to administrate the game's format and rules
Effectively yes! Or at least that's what they want under this model with the big teams get even bigger and richer that's part of the aim of it.Who cares how good they were 15+ years ago. People dont watch the name or the history. They watch the team and Arsenal's current team isn't very good. You know they could solve that problem with some kind of qualification, like earning more points than their peers over a season. That way the elite european competition has the elite teams in it. Or i guess we could just assume Arsenal will be one of the 15 best teams in europe for the rest of existence becasue they're called arsenal
If I have to start supporting a new club I think this tweet might make me choose Wrexham
I think its relevant more in terms of the way the clubs will look at it, and the way they look at it will, no matter what fans think, eventually be the way we look at it.Why though? Winning the league is still winning the league. We want to keep Liverpool from getting 20. We wanna get the 21st. Need to break City's Hegemony. The only thing it would change is that 6 of the clubs would not care about the top 4 battle and isn't that what our fans make fun of us for these days? Caring about the top 4 trophy? West Ham and Leicester still want the top 4.
pretty much this. Entitled owners who have had their pockets hurt when they werent good enough to qualify for champions league. Arsenal arent a patch on leicester atm but the owners want to ringfence the money they think the football universe owes them, and give two fingers to the champions league and spirit of football. The whole of football is based on the idea that its an infinite game with all sorts of outcomes. Look at Bournemouth for instance - nearly dropped out of league two then rode the leagues up to the premier league. West Ham have a small squad and some financial issues but look as though they might finish higher up the table than the raining champions. What the hell are you on about?
This is a huge feck you to all the other clubs, telling them they're beneath these 15 founding clubs.
The audacity to form an "exclusive" group of clubs goes against the nature of football's unpredictability where a team can grow into a top team organically but then also have a couple of dark years where they're not among the big boys.
Football clubs have countries as owners now, major foreign investors. Boris was trying to unlawfully let Saudi Arabia buy Newcastle ffs.If the various governments actually decided to do something about it, there is absolutely nothing these clubs could do to stop them.
With the news of this wank league being confirmed by our club, I'm genuinely struggling to see the incentives the Glazers might have for NOT just selling the naming rights of Old Trafford to some American shit firm. Today they just took a dump on every fan of the club - feck all will happen - so why not say feck it, and rename Old Trafford the Coca-Cola Arena? Already fits with the colors. I wouldn't put anything past these...... people.Wonder how long it'll take to have kick off times to suit Asian TV/viewing audience?
Or to play some games in other countries... The Man United Globetrotters.

This.So you're suggesting that we won't want to win the league because we will be in the SL anyway? Better tell the players to pack it in, no point lads, you'll get paid regardless
If there's more than greed involved then they've done a bloody terrible job of managing to actually communicate that to anyone. Given that currently about 95% of football fans are raging against them, including fans of 40 years plus like myself ready to stop supporting our clubs.Thats the thing.
Imo UEFA and the individual leagues huffing and puffing will only lead to more alienation. FIFA and the leagues will eventually fold as the game is only popular today because of these teams and players. This is basically a public arbitration. UEFA overemphasized their power and the clubs who made them what they are are fighting back. Talk of greed, death of football, is all an exaggeration. Its annoying and it will take some time, but this matter will be resolved.
It's Bayern, Dortmund and PSG who declined to get involved.Any speculation on who the other 3 member are?
I agreeThey invest money the club makes because of our history.
They do it to keep us vaguely competitive and therefore keep the money flowing into their pockets. The fact it’s not enough to take us beyond City doesn’t matter to them
Well yeah, it's obviously being done to make money. Nobody is clever for thinking that, I haven't seen any of the statements coming from those involved claim this is an act of charity.Ding, ding, ding. We have a winner. It's all a very transparent money grab.
I honestly fully expect Klopp to nope out and I think this may be related to their form this season. So much of the news stories in this recent season make a lot more sense now.I want to hear from Klopp and Ole and Pep most of all.
We'll find out if they have the spines to stand by their principles.
I'll be honest, I think there will be too much economical pressure on us in the long run to stand by that decission. If the ESL goes forward it's either to join it or risk behind completly left behind...It's Bayern, Dortmund and PSG who declined to get involved.
Fred - £200m well spent.Yep, top players wages will at least double and you'll need 200m to buy Fred.
This already happens though when we play PSG - City - PSG this season. And in reality, the opposite of what you said will happen. Since the SL isn't super incentivized (you get a large chunk of the money for just participating) whereas the PL is, surely the boards would tell the manager to focus on the league since who cares if we're bottom of our SL group that year?I think its relevant more in terms of the way the clubs will look at it, and the way they look at it will, no matter what fans think, eventually be the way we look at it.
If winning the EPL is no longer much of a financial bonus for the Glazers they will tell the manager to focus on Super League games regardless of the EPL fixtures. If United have a EPL game vs Liverpool on Saturday and a Super League Quarter Final vs Madrid on Wednesday and the board tells the United Manager to ignore the league game he will. If fans start seeing that the focus is not on the league then winning the league becomes less important.
Whoever bends over with lube i suppose. So, if the founding group grows from 12 to 15 and those 15 are in it every year, how are the 5 chosen to compete in the competition in that given season? I take it 'top four' won't be a thing anymore?
There is nothing random about these 15 clubs. It's the 'sort by revenue' option on the filter, not the 'sort by trophies' one. What if a European Super League would have been formed around 1980 and it would have included Nottingham Forest after their back-to-back European Cups?
The randomness of this "exclusivity" at an arbitrary moment in time is a complete disgrace.
In fairness to him, that crossypicket fella has spent all day doing a pretty good impression of one.Paid shills? You can't be serious.
They're trying to replicate the "world series" which takes place in one country. The lot of them should be kicked out.American plutocracy vs Meritocracy. I hope Europe does better and show those yanks who's boss - at least when it comes to football.
If the various governments actually decided to do something about it, there is absolutely nothing these clubs could do to stop them.
But what could they do?This
The political capital in the UK is unique Vs anywhere in America.
You could see MP's losing seats over this let alone what could happen if fans united and organised.

Maybe not from financial point of view, as you will have enough money and still more then other teams in Germany and most of Europe, so you will win titles. But form a sporting point of view you probably will want to start competing with "the best".I'll be honest, I think there will be too much economical pressure on us in the long run to stand by that decission. If the ESL goes forward it's either to join it or risk behind completly left behind...
