Fair play from Dorgu

Is it the right and classy thing to do? Yes, of course - the game would be so much better if everyone behaved similarly.

Was it the smart thing to do? Absolutely not - no one else in the game does the same, and we regularly get decisions going against us that cost us games and points. If they'd ended up equalizing, we'd be looking at this incident very differently. I think he will be asked to not repeat such unnecessay acts of honesty again.

It's what I'd want football to be. Raúl and Solskjær were my favorite players growing up and they were model professionals on the pitch.

Sadly football has evolved away from that and you're supposed to be dishonest. The governing body is dishonest and dishonesty is hardly ever punished but often rewarded. It's FIFA, UEFA and referees who are supposed to change that, not the players.

Not for me, win the game at all costs. If he did that in the European cup final in the last minute at 0-0 you’d be furious.

Yeah but it wasn’t that scenario was it?

Who knows how he’d act in that.

For me it’s refreshing to see honesty

Should be absolutely bollocked. Its all well and good being a gentleman but not if no one else is doing it. He denied Bruno a hat trick (lucky he got one anyway) and what if they equalized?

It wasn’t the scenario no, but at 2-1 the game wasn’t won. I’d prefer a more ruthless approach

Var overturn it anyway, it’s not like it matters what dorgu does

Legend! This is what football should be about. I remember a player telling the ref it wasn't a pen, the ref still gave it, and the striker just passed it to the goalie - you want to win it right, not by cheating. Of course he wasn't cheating, but I love that he chose the high road.

More often then not, you aren't in such a position to be generous. Guess he knew that it was less than 50-50 due to var and given that United were securely in control, a man up in your own stadium and with the other team having to open up due to being a goal down, it is easy to be fair and waive away and extended lead.

Fair play, don't see it very often. But would I want him to do that if we are in the final and it's 1-1 probably not.

It had no impact on the decision making. It was so obviously not a pen - more likely to be helpful in influencing the ref positively in other incidents.

Who wants to win games through shitty referee decisions? No self-respecting athlete should.

Not sure about that. Solskjaer completely wiped out a Newcastle player through on goal. He had a nasty streak. I’m sure the same could be said about Raul.

Good point, completely slipped my mind in the aftermath but if Sociedad were half as honest they would've put it out for a corner from the drop ball.
I suppose if the ref blew before the ball went out, then it’s technically got to be a drop ball. But in the spirit of doing the right thing, it’s definitely a corner.

From a sporting perspective I liked it. But I still want to let the ref make the decision. Especially against spanish sides who are all to happy to cheat where they can.

Looked like even VAR was not going to overturn it as it was close.

That's not nasty. We called them professional fouls for a reason. There was no malice in the foul.

Being hard and tough doesn't mean you aren't fair.

Fair play to him.Good to see some sportsmanship on display and I only wish there was more of it.

Class. I hate all the diving, cheating and play-acting that goes on, including from our own players.

I don’t think his comments made any difference … between the ref and VAR, they will get it right or mess it up

With VAR it’s fair enough to tell the ref. It would’ve been overturned anyway.
Without VAR is a different matter, at the time it was only 2-1 and imagine Sociedad had then gone up the other end and scored.
I’d hope he only fessed up to avoid a lengthy delay when Utd were well on top and had the time to score more.

No malice? What are you going on about? He kicked the back of his leg on purpose. Is that what you meant above about what you want football to be? It was a nasty challenge. He even said that Fergie blasted him after the game because it was unsportsmanlike.

If this game was 1-1 at the time, and 11v11 players, would everyone on here be happy about the sportsmanship? What if we then went on to lose 2-1 after?

Very easy to give him credit when we win comfortably in the end.

Save being nice for games we've already won.

Didn't imagine he'd be nearly quite as impactful as he's been early on fair play to him.

Long may it continue, makes one wonder eagerly about how we'll look after Amorim gets to mold the team to his liking

He trips him. Making a tactical foul is not "nasty", he has no intention to hurt or injure the player, he's just stopping them from scoring.

He wins the Paolo DiCanio award, and the bonus is he isn't a fascist.

But seriously, I liked it. We're beginning to amass (no pun intended) players with character, and that's an example of character right there. Good for him. I even got a little choked up when he did it.

Love it.

So sick and tired of the diving and acting to trick the ref to give a pen or a red. Feck them to hell.
Wish they used the var tech to find shit like that and punish in retrospect

Yes not nasty. If it were nasty he would have tackled him lower. Hitting the achilles or ankles is nasty. Getting kicked hurt but it's not so bad. Losing the chance hurt more for them. Definitely not malice.

I hate it. If the ref fecks up and we're benefiting, shut up and take that luck.

We get decisions go against us all the time and you never see the opposition telling the ref it's the wrong call.

The Streets Will Never Forget.

On a serious note, I thought it was weird why he didn't get away or a cross in earlier before the fall. I only saw one reply but it looked like he threw his right leg over the ball to shield/dummy over it when he could have leant into it and got a first touch with his left.

His decision making and execution was poor but his sheer willingness and athleticism made it a productive night.
