Fantasy Premier League 21/22

Very early prediction for next season prices?

Could see Son elevated to 12.0m. He has been doing it every season since he came to the Premier League. Inevitable price rises for the likes of Maddison and Bowen which will be painful.
It'll be good to have less set and forget options.

So, who is Michael Donkin?

Won the Red Cafe league and finished 501 in the world.

Beat Padraigh Griffen to 1st place on the final day.

Son vs Kane will be hard again. There is Haaland plus Son vs KDB plus Kane for same cost. I am 100% picking the weaker combo.

Son & Haaland. Both play higher up the pitch. Probably be the slightly more expensive combo of the two as well. Assume Haaland will be on pens for City as well.

Most people will pick that combo, but yeah can easily go both ways.

Now Son and Salah are the most explosive mids in the game though and you fear them more than Kane and KDB normally.

So put your hands up. Who getting Mitrovic day 1?

Last time I did regret not picking him since he scored 2 goals week two I think, but probably avoiding again. It was probably one of the few errors I did with cheap forwards last year starting with Adams over Mitrovic/Wilson.

Depend on cost for forwards if I pick him. If everyone is crazy expensive and Mitrovic cheap I might get him.

Don't think Haaland will be price 12+. It's still a new young player coming to the PL for the first time, maybe 10-10.5. Werner came in after a 28 league goals season and was what 9.5? Haaland got 22 last season. Think 10.0 sounds right with the added City factor. If Son is around 11.5 then those two will become easy options.

Wrt Son most of the Spurs fans have talked about how Spurs change Kane's role as per the opposition. In games where they are facing a tougher team or midfield Kane drops deep, and Son goes up front but in easier games Kane would generally be up front and Son out wide. Son also overperforms on his finishing a lot. Let's see how they set up next time up. Think there's also be a lot of interest for both of them.

If Haaland comes in at below 11... it'd legit be madness to me. Julian Alvarez should be like 8.0(Jesus was 9.0 competing with Aguero) and he won't be starting much. Werner's a bit of iffy comparison due to the Chelsea factor alone, plus his ceiling was no way near as high.

It is tricky cause they can't just raise the costs of everyone.

Kane is more proven so does he get much cheaper?

It is all about the relative cost.

I think if they lower the cost of forwards to increase the cost of defenders I would like that in general.

If they do then Haaland can't really be 12 million if every other forward is cheaper next year.

They might keep defenders pretty cheap and forwards expensive, but it would be too easy to get premium def then and sacrifice a forward for 4.5 fodder.

Sancho is another example who was a very highly rated transfer. Haaland has a lot of hype but I was just thinking what FPL generally looks at. And I don't know of many players with zero PL record getting max prices. Unless it was someone like Messi or Neymar etc. I think he'll be treated as someone with a great record in what is considered an easier league but still to prove himself in pl.

Reece James or Cancelo and Che Adams cost the same.
Similarly Trent Robertson cost the same as an Ollie Watkins.

That is when defenders two avenues of getting returns plus are bonus magnets.

If they don't take up those wingback prices massively everyone will go for a 5-4-1 or 4-5-1 as it is pointless getting any of those forwards over those defenders.

Haaland comes in at 12.5 (obvious) and is an absolute must have. Cant compare him to any other player that's come from the Bundesliga. It's a disgrace that he won't be in red.

What we need is some decent 5 and 5.5 forwards to pick. The weaker forwards need to be pretty cheap.

This year we only had a billion cheap Watford forwards and Pukki for low cost. Now I had Dennis early on and he was really good, but yeah not many options.

Many 5 million defenders can do great job like Doherty, Tierney etc.

The thing though is that you can't play with 10 defenders so keeping the cost low is pretty good I think.

Raising the cost too much just make it hard to build a good team. The only way to balance it is giving low cost to cheaper strikers as well.

Cause I hate it if you are forced to play none playing strikers since all good strikers cost 7.5 minimum and TAA cost 8 so you go him instead over a cheap 4.5 defender.

With mids you always got cheaper picks to go for that can stay on your bench or even do well at times.

And Broja the essential.

Even the likes of Mitrovic will be around 6.5. Rather spend a million or so more and get the premium wingbacks.

Mitro is a possibility. Stack the midfield, get some attacking fullbacks in defence, cheap forwards.

I predict Haaland at 13.0 - Bruno probably goes down to an affordable level again. 9.5 or 10 maybe

So to analyse the season.

Who has been your best pick? Probably Salah, Cancelo or TAA early this season.
Worst pick? Ramsdale or Mbeumo.
Biggest troll? Son or James.
Most unexpected hero? Bowen

Matip, Sterling, Son, Ronaldo, Antonio, Raphinha (early on) did some good jobs for me towards the end - might've got lucky with Matip/Robertson as I went without both Trent and Cancelo towards the end of the season, but it worked.

Alonso trolls me every year. Had Bruno from the beginning, but 6 GW's in he produced next to nothing. Then went with Gray and Smith Rowe - they produced quite good and stable for a while. Jota was nice and stable for a while too. All in all I went pretty template from the beginning of the season towards the middle, and then took some chances with differentials in the end which paid off. Could be down to pure luck, but ended up in top 10k.

Well I remember that season when we had Alonso for 7, TAA 5, Robertson 6, Mendy6, Trippier 6. I had them all at the start and smashed it like insanly much.
Was top 100 after like 7 weeks before me going without Salah backfired.

Haaland 13 no way. If so got to go without I think.

Even Aguero was usually around 11.5 under Pep and he was proven.

Jota, Salah, Son etc need to be strikers. Otherwise it's a bit of a joke.

Kane should have his own position, quarterback.

I'd love for them to add a new mode with point categories for things like tackles, completed passes, shots on goal, etc.

Would actually need to put some thought in it beyond who'll score, assist and get a clean sheet (which is basically how you get bonus points).

Trouble is where do you do draw the line? Mane, Diaz, Foden, Sterling, Mahrez, Bowen, Saka, Zaha in there as well? You then run the risk of overloading the forwards bracket and only having 3 slots.

It's almost like they need to do away with the traditional categories of defender, midfielder and forward and come up with something else, in conjunction with revamping the bps system so that players are rewarded more for performance relative to what their role is in the team.

I think there definitely is a smarter way to do it but not sure that the developers can be arsed. It's wildly successful as it is and the key to that is probably keeping it so simple so I expect nothing major will change.

It’d render most “midfielders” almost useless too. De Bruyne, Madisson, Mount… then a whole load of useless shite.

No way. Think Salah will be 12.5m, and I don't see Haaland being as expensive as him. Considering that Kane, Salah and Son are as guaranteed as success can be, and with the way Guardiola manages forwards and new players, if Haaland comes in above either of them, I likely won't consider him early on.

My prediction for the premiums:
Salah 12.5m
Kane 12.0m
De Bruyne 12.0m
Son 12.0m
Ronaldo 11.5m
Haaland 11.5m
Mane 11.5m

The likes of Diaz, Lukaku, Fernandes, between 9.0m and 11.0m

I don't see them changing either Son or Salah myself. Systems are way too fluid, and it's not just City and Liverpool doing it. If you make Salah a striker, people will say Son and endless others should be too, and then Firmino should be a midfielder, but so should Kane and others again.

But then randomly ASM is a Forward despite being similar to the above mentioned, maybe because no one will overly care

Yeah you're right. I think the key is in pricing.

But I wish they found a way to make DMFs more useful. Like maybe they get 3 points for a CS rather than 1?

There is no way to do it that suits FPL. If they put DMs in a specific position and give them maybe 2 points per clean sheets it would not help.

Everyone would have Jorginho, Ward Prowse etc who are already Ok options. If you make clean sheet points high I guess Fabinho and Rodri would be ok.

It would be even more template than before I think unless you raise the cost for the best defensive mids and make Ward Prowse 10 million or something.

Also the difference between DM and normal midfielder is quite tight so would Gallagher count?

What about players like Thiago and Henderson that are not very attacking. They would be even more useless than right now.

I think ball recoveries like they have in UCL fantasy would not work. I am not a fan since it makes defenders too good.
Since formation do not matter in UCL fantasy it still works ok and so I had Rodri and Fabinho a lot as cheap enablers, but in FPL everyone would play 5 defenders and never pick the defensive mids anyway outside the bench.

Strikers are very weak already and do not need to get weaker.

If they add recoveries I say to balance it make goals be worth 6 for mids and 5 for strikers.

It's very arbitrary. I think Martial only worked for half a season up front and got switched to a forward, based on that Son, Mane, Foden all should be forwards. But I think they look at the overall team formation for majority of the season so e.g. Jota 100% becomes a forward next season but probably Mane remains as a mid. Also type of the player and if they also contribute in midfield probably goes into it. But pretty subjective in the end.

Havertz despite being playing up front will probably remain as a mid as he still plays deeper at times.

Son is the big one. I think it's 50-50. Feel it is a similar case to Auba who was still someone drifting wide at times but overall became their primary goalscorer and was turned to a forward. I think they might just switch him.

So basically the bigger names in forward line would be Kane, Son, Ronaldo, Lukaku, Jota, Haaland. Which is a couple of big changes to balance mids and fwds a bit but not more than that.

I think because Kane is a forward, Son will remain mid but his price will hike. He'll be like 11.5 or something like that.

Was thinking the same and yeah they can think about that. Would be fun if both Kane and Son are forwards though, will be the whole coin toss thing again. He will easily be 11.5or 12 as well.

Wingbacks is the biggest one for me. TAA, Cancelo, Robertson all need to be at least 8.5-9.
