Interesting that Jayvin has no pre 1970s or non winners yet
There are a few teams that should be interesting to complete within the restrictions. I really hope we see a few more less known players and get to read some stories about them. I always enjoyed learning about those players in these draft games and I usually honour that effort when I vote :).

Mine is one of those. Last pick I had someone else in mind who would have given me more balance in terms of the restrictions but simply couldn't let go of Kempes so late.

Leônidas Da Silva.

I am happy to get a Golden ball and Golden boot winner this late especially considering he is rated as one of the top 10 Brazilians ever as well as one of the top 10 Forwards in history. By many older he is considered higher rated than both Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo in terms of the best forwards. Generally though considered to be right there with them.

"Leonidas was the more phenomenal for being so small a center forward, though he began as an inside right. Of him, it was said by Jerry Wienstein, "He was as fast as a greyhound, as agile as a cat, and seemed not to be made of flesh and bones at all, but entirely of rubber. He was tireless in pursuit of the ball, fearless, and constantly on the move. He never conceded defeat. He shot from any angle and any position, and compensated for his small height with exceptionally supple, unbelievable contortions, and impossible acrobatics."

I really don't want to play against Fergus'son, looks like a quality team so far. I need a few minutes, still not sure who to pick.

Is Anto around or has someone his picks? I think he wrote something about being away over the weekend.

I see.

I was actually a little unsure about the pick but you've made me feel a lot better about it!

It's pretty shit pick tbh. Luckily for you it's not too late to change your mind since the person after you hasn't made theirs yet!

I'd actually love for Anto to show up or someone saying he has his pick, so that I'd be forced to choose instantly instead of changing my mind every 5 seconds

Ffs, leftback is a complete nightmare, I pick Silvio Marzolini.

(and I really hope Anto won't write me a PM and tell me that he's an incredibly stupid pick for my team  ).

Anto's team looks incredible to be honest. If he picks the one you're talking about, he has 5 brilliant non-winners that he can keep until the final, 4 of them pre-'70. He should be able to fill the rest of the positions with ease from the huge pool of quality southamerican players post-70 and if he goes through in the first round, almost no one will be able to pick the reinforcements he wants, because of the restrictions.

He needs to loose the first game or we're all doomed .

I'm by the way incredibly pissed that those idiotic Dutch players failed to qualify for the worldcup in 1970, My job would be so much easier in that case . But Cruyff had to be a cnut and the Dutch manager really thought it's a good idea to play the decisive game in the qualification without him for disciplinary reasons. Unbelieveable.

I think we all know anto's next pick.
I doubt it, if it were so easy I would have left it with someone else!

With Blanc gone I no longer have much preference around CBs, just 3-4 sets of pairs I would be very happy with.

On the other hand, trying to forecast what will happen in the rpitroda-Annah corridor of death is almost as risk-free as running through a dark room packed with monkeys armed with machetes.

Will have to bring forward the one pick I consider essential. It will cost me a preferred player in the back four but I would top myself if I missed out on him.

Forster is a cracking pick by the way Fergus, I was hoping he would go unnoticed a wee bit longer. Exactly what I mean by there being CBs who aren't the biggest names but as effective as most picked so far.

Well there is one obvious name, and one I know you are quite fond of and would tick a few boxes of what you need.

I would be surprised if you don't pick either of them in the next two picks.

The man who tormented Brazil and broke their hearts.

He destroyed Brazil's left flank providing the only attacking outlet for Uruguay, but the most clearcut source of chances in that game. He initially hugged the line and crossed, but noticed the keeper was coming off his line and intercepting many of his crosses, so decided to start cutting inside as that would drag the CB AND keep the keeper on his line. If he didn't, he could always shoot himself.

It worked exactly as planned, the CB had to cover the hapless and on-his-arse Bigode now, leaving other forwards loose in the middle of the box. With the game at 1-0 to Brazil, Ghiggia beats the LB, drags the CB but he is going late enough to make the keeper concerned about his near post. Cutback, [Uruguay Inside left], goal. Simple wingplay.

He did this a couple more times and noticed the keeper was increasingly more worried about the cetreforwards receiving the crosses and was coming off his line and towards the centre. But he kept doing it to increasingly lure the keeper away from the post. Eventually, in a carbon copy of the first goal, he looks up towards [same Uruguay inside left] prompting Barbosa to take a step to many away from the post. BOOM! Bottom corner, game over, Brazil have lost the biggest of all games at home at the Maracana.

Alcides Ghiggia
